Billy did NOT call the Red Cross to assist with the extended leave, it was Sharon. Sharon also said she did not give the Red Cross Billy's cell phone number. The call was from a prepaid calling card per Billy. Perhaps the Red Cross did attempt to reach BR later, but I am of the opinion that it was Maura on that voice message.
You're entitled to your opinions Lighthouse, but not you're own "facts".:) Nice try though.
I gather you're aware of EXACTLY when LE told Sharon they had determined the call was from the Red Cross? Feel free to enlighten us as to how LE was able to obtain that information so quickly.
First, to my knowledge it was not an extended leave. Extended leaves can be approved by the company First Sargent or company commander. This was an emergency leave. NO emergency leave is approved without the Red Cross verifying the emergency. They would have had to have had Billy's phone number from somewhere because he has to be able to be contacted. Anyone in the military knows this. Just because Sharon didn't give the number doesn't mean someone else, on post, listed in his file, didn't get it. Phone numbers are required on a lot of different paperwork regarding personal information. Billy being contacted by the Red Cross would not have been unusual, it would have been likely and very unusual if he wasn't directly contacted.

There is no evidence that it was Maura and lots to indicate it wasn't. I still haven't formed a firm opinion on this because of the conflicting information that we have. I don't know what LE has but they seem convinced that it wasn't her.

There is no evidence whatsoever that Maura Murray was intoxicated or even drinking.
She's not here today and a suspicious Red Truck was seen lurking in the area just before she vanished. Search dogs traced her scent a few hundred feet down the road. No evidence was found that she entered the surrounding woods. She was apparently out of the sightline of local witnesses for 10-12 minutes and that's plenty of time for a perpetrator(s) to grab her and leave no trace.
But the W-mans placed her at the car 1-2 minutes before police came. That's what I don't get either.

True enough. And then it's been written that they stepped away from the window after Butch got there. So there definitely had to be some time where she wasn't being observed by the neighbors. Whoever abducted her (my only plausible theory) was either watching carefully or just got lucky that nobody saw them. It's very dark there, so the perp(s) could have blocked the Wms view with their vehicle and the fir trees in front of the Mrts home might have hindered them from seeing a stopped vehicle other than the school bus. It's not as if there was a spotlight on MM and the Saturn... and the car was black. It's also more difficult to see when you're in a lit room looking out at the dark night.

If two strong men grabbed her as she was looking in her trunk for better walking shoes (or whatever) how long would it take them to pluck her up? 30 seconds?

Possibly her capturer(s) coerced the phone information out of her and they called her loved ones to torment them with her muffled cries for help.
BR and SR are of the opinion that the 7AM (Central Time) call on Feb 11th to BR's cell was from Maura and they both said there was whimpering and soft muffled sobbing. In FM's statement given to the UMPD on Feb. 22, 2004 he stated, " I intended to bring the car back the next Friday night. Maura was making whimpering sounds while in the car." ( http://mauramurray.blogspot.ca/search... )
In the absence of any other information I am of the opinion that the voice message WAS Maura and that she was alive on February 11th and was being held by her abductors. It’s entirely possible that the whimpering was a signature trait and was Maura's way of sending a signal to BR that she was in danger.
Perhaps LE is of the belief that wherever she was being held that morning is her "last known location"?
(Back to deadheading rhododendrons.)
Police played this "message", this call where Billy and sharon felt it were Maura making these sounds........

They all sat there at the police station and played this message and it was "just static," according to the police.

Billy erased it, but I have read where the police kept their own copy of this recording. I hope this is the truth and that they have tried to further analize the "sounds" on that message, just to be sure it was "only static".

I am not issuing a retraction with my first comments about the phone call as of yet. I still feel very strongly that the call was from the red cross office.

However in the wiki of The Disappearance of Maura Murray it does state:
" His cellphone had been turned off during his flight. The call was traced to a card issued to the American Red Cross. "

Then if you trace that citation back from the reference you get this:
"Did Maura make the mysterious phone call? While a search was beginning in Woodsville N.H., Billy Rausch was walking through security in a Dallas airport. He had just shut off his phone when he received a voice message.

Sharon Rausch, Billy's mother, described the message: "It was very short -- consisted of a shivering, soft whimpering sound with labored breathing as if someone was very cold."

The number traced back to an AT&T calling card. Coincidentally, Sharon said she had bought two AT&T calling cards for Maura the previous Thanksgiving holiday. After an investigation, N. H. State Police traced the calling card to the American Red Cross.

Sharon had called the Red Cross sometime between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning to request an emergency leave for Billy, but she doubts the mysterious call could have come from the Red Cross."

I am not saying that I'm wrong about my point, but I am willing to say that I could be mistaken.

There is no factual evidence... is there? We can look at models, statistics and buy into stereotypes about those pesky tourists from Massachusetts, but IIRC there hasn't been any information released as to whether there definitively was alcohol in that discarded soda bottle and/or whether MM's DNA was on that bottle. Or do you have an inside scoop that's kosher to share with us?

Again, I will also point you to the patterns and mechanics example that I have pointed to for JWB.

As well as my experiences, and FrmLE's experiences. I suspect that officer Smith has smelled alcohol in the past. Can probably identify it. If I presented these sets of facts to a normal group of people assembled as a jury, do you think they would convict? I am sure they would. More cases are won on circumstantial evidence than any other type of evidence. At least that is my understanding. Of course that requires people who have common sense, something I fear may be on the wane in this country.

Maura crashed her car and ran afterwards because she had been drinking. You may start with other working theories if you wish, but if you do, they will be faulty.

Oh and I don't worry about the judgie-wudgies. The ones that agree with me are correct. The ones that don't I just consider those people not smart enough to understand a logically laid out premise and incapable of following a thought to a logical conclusion. Not really people to worry about.

We do know, and I didn't need to see the actual crash because of all the telltale signs and witness reports, and the very detailed police report of the scene. She crashed her car while driving and drinking and then fled the scene to avoid arrest. Anything past that is speculation and some posters here have amazing imaginations and will post some of the funniest stuff you have ever read. High grade, first class, spectacular, entertainment.

So... translation: it's all sheer conjecture on your behalf and you have no facts. Just your opinion only -- which you're indubitably entitled to.

If you presented WHAT dubious facts to a "normal group of people assembled as a mock jury". Am I being punk'd here or do your delusions know no bounds?

Ok stop the crying game. It has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing whatsoever so lets not even go there-keep it real.I and other posters that came here only to talk about Maura have been ridiculed from day one (newbie, stupid, ridiculous a bad father and on and on).Shack hasn't said anything bad about anyone since i started posting yet she gets nailed to the stake. This forum is considered entertainment by WTH and Snowy and Wowzer played right along with I could go back and pull out the quotes etc but I am not going to go there.
A friend told me I should come here and see what's being said. JWB I have not posted here in quite some time and yet you feel the need to keep bringing up my name.
You have mentioned before that you and some friends are doing your own investigative work.I believe it.
I heard from a friend that knows me personally a while ago that someone was making phone calls in this area and asking people that answered for wowzer. Is that you or your buddies?
For all the posters here beware because the bullying and threats goes beyond the computer. I wasn't going to post here ever again but as someone said previously there are some dangerous games being played here and you should all be warned that there are some trying to get your real names. And it go much further than you might think. JWB should be fully investigated IMHO and at the very least banned from Topix. Hopefully he is already being watched carefully.
I doubt I will post here again. You can heed my warning or ignore it. That's entirely up to you but I think the intimidation by jwb and findmaura should be halted. Absolutely no one should ever be outed on a public forum and yet these two seem to enjoy dangling the threat under a posters nose even though the poster hasn't replied in some time.
And JWB has admitted in this forum that he and some friends are doing there own investigative work outside this forum. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
And yes, thanks for asking. I'm enjoying the summer immensely without all the stress and BS which makes up the MM forum.
Enjoy the summer everyone and stay safe.

Citigirl I need your help sorting this out please help. The Whiteman Hanson Express wrote a very large article we all read it, but can you read this part.
"Fred was also present for the search and aggressively pushed investigators to search an A-frame house on Valley Road near the scene of the accident. He suspected it might be somehow connected.
The property was on the real estate market, so Fred sought out real estate agent Stan Davis and asked permission to search the house. Davis confirmed that he gave Fred his consent and provided him with a key to the house.
The fight for the house search was worth the effort.
On the first day, a cadaver dog searched the house and had hits on the second level; the next day four more cadaver dogs were put to work in the house and went "bonkers," Fred said. The strongest hits by the dogs were in a downstairs closet. Cadaver dogs are skilled in sniffing for decomposing bodies but are not able to distinguish the identities of bodies.
Though a dead body could have been stored in this closet, the dogs were not capable of identifying if the body was Maura.
The investigators took a few trash bags filled with items from the house and a piece of carpet from the closet. According to Fred, the carpet was to be divided into two pieces: a portion of the carpet was to be given to state police, who were not present for the search, and the other portion was to be held by the group of volunteer investigators. A medical laboratory examination was to determine if stains on the carpet were blood, and if available DNA matched Maura's. Seven months later, laboratory test results have not been made available from either group."
Citigirl - here it states that Fred contacted the Real Estate agent. The Real Estate Agent gave Fred permission and the Key. Fred makes the "bonkers" comment and then it says that a medical laboratory was to find out if the carpet stains had blood and if the DNA matched.
You made a comment that Fred "was in another state" I read it as if he was there.
I also read that he the blood and DNA are going to be tested. So if you know for a fact that it is really blood, someone was given the results of the tests for you to make the comment about it being human blood.
This article was written in 2007 so I'm guessing the laboratory results have been out for some time now.
I read that article too and I agree with you. Did you know that shack is related to the real estate agent. Small word huh.

It was probably someone looking for an AWOL dog -- one that forgot to call the Red Cross for help with an emergency leave of absence.
