Back to the logs. This person "running" from the school might be cause enough to erase part of the logs just prior to Maura's accident. In this made up scenerio, the young man is found to be missing around supper time. A call goes in to report him as missing.....
Then another 911 call once he was located. That call has stayed on all the logs.

My point? Maybe this is why the logs are missing info and/or contradicting other copies of logs. If this missing person was under age, he is protected from having his name released? IDK.

Hey now, why the reaction? I don't think Maura took her own life. She was not dressed well for the elements, and I don't know if she had a plan or a car lined up or what

BUT, Kathleen said this, go look for yourself.

"She might be afraid she might get in trouble, but we just want to let her know it is fine," said her sister, Kathleen Murray. "We just want her to come home."

(I did have it a wee bit wrong, I can see that now. I can't find my exact memory of my earlier quote so this is it,~ this is what she said)

As far as rational suicide, it is very common knowledge that the most dangerous time for a person who is depressed that is contemplating suicide is when they have decided on a plan. They feel a sense of relief that the emotional pain will soon be over, and thereafter act in a very rational manner, which fools those around them into believing the crisis has passed. An example of a rationally planned suicide is Brad Delp, singer for the band Boston. He carefully planned his suicide, including writing multiple notes to loved ones, leaving notes outside the house for the rescue personnel to warn them about the levels of carbon monoxide they would encounter inside, as well as notes to them explaining what he had done, etc.

I myself have planned my own demise many times, the most recent being to freeze to death in the winter. I know exactly what I will do, and have researched it extensively on the Internet. I know that being intoxicated will increase the speed at which I will become hypothermic. This might lead me to believe that Maura had planned the same thing, and is the reason she took the alcohol with her when she left the car.

But this makes me ask, why wasn't any research on ways to commit suicide found on her computer? LE did an exhaustive search of her computer, presumably, and I would think that any history of MM researching suicide would have come out. Instead, LE seems to focus on either foul play or that she ran away, and has never, to my knowledge, considered suicide as a possibility.

Any person that actually plans a suicide, rather than do it spur of the moment with a gun or a jumping off a bridge/building or in front of a train, will research it first, as they want to make sure that it is as painless as possible. There are all kinds of websites devoted to this, as well as books. As to her medical training, I doubt strongly that exact methods of suicide were taught. Therefore, if her intent was to freeze to death in the mountains, she would have researched exactly how to do it as quickly as possible. Why is there nothing about it on her computer?

Maybe she was planning on drinking a lot of alchol and then taking sleeping pills or Advil. Don't forget she was training to be a nurse so she probably had a little knowledge on the subject.

Ruthless Rye,
Here's a poem I wrote long ago for someone who turns out, felt like ending their life.

Follow your heart,
Wherever it leads you.
Nourish your soul,
And pray that it feeds you.
Remember to talk,~whenever things grieve you,
~And your precious heart
will never leave you.

I don't think there is a way to know what was on her computer since the data was not released even to her own family, was it? Along these lines I wanted to read more about the book found in Maura's car bookmarked with her brother's picture. I'm ordering the book to read this chapter but do you think this is a coincidence, or does she always carry this book with her?

On the PorchlightUSA forum a comment dated May 5 2008 by the forum admin says:

"Does the book hold a clue?

The book found in Maura's car Not Without Peril, by Nicholas Howe, is subtitled "150 Years of Misadventure on the Presidential Range of New Hampshire." The book, a gift from her father, details "the deaths and mishaps that have claimed over a hundred lives of hikers on Mt. Washington and the surrounding Presidential Range Mountains," according to Amazon.com .

As an avid hiker, the book was one of Maura's favorites, according to her father. Inside the book investigators found a bookmark with a photo of Maura's younger brother. Ironically, it marked Chapter 16, entitled "A Question of Life or Death," which chronicles the story of Macdonald Barr, a Brookline, Mass., native who died of hypothermia in the White Mountains in August of 1986."

Maybe a coincidence but she could have learned a thing or two from this book?

I'm not so sure about that. Maura had a ham string injury at one point and learned that tylenol pm was a good thing to help make her sleepy. She had pajamas and food with her. I try to imagine her despair, but I keep thinking she had to make this trip to NH and really needed that new car. I keep thinking blackmail, but then that's just me. It's a hunch. Maybe the dog found the scent of the actual location of the car and thus Maura herself (just because this IS where the car was), and Maura was "taken away freely or not, from the car?
Did someone see her get in a car and head west? Did police call nearby police to the east,(and who was argueing about jurisdiction in someones backyard)? and they will not share what they have? Namely, or should I say a possible witness to Maura being whisked away in:(whichever direction)? If it's true that Maura thought she was expecting, and there were no reason to study the subject as part of her schooling,~ well, maybe there's another guy in the pot. If such person lived in MA, would police have a chance at solving this is they only focus on NH? I'm thinking NO.

As I have said before, this might have been a clue in the event that something were to happen to Maura. Something she didn't dare talk about (or someone's not sharing), let alone write down. "A Question of Life or Death"

Before I go for today. How about Fred takes this matter to the UMASS police, or whichever dept in MA has the copy of her hard drive? Maybe he can get somewhere by appealing to these officers of the law, that he may be granted the harddrive. After all, this was not found in Maura's car. It was part of a pc found in Maura's dorm room. Maybe he can use that to get around any red tape there may be.

So I hope will try it from this angle, if he hasn't already.

Loading up your car with alchol does not seem like you are going to meet someone who is blackmailing you. Plus she did call around to make reservations. She was going away on her own free will.

I agree with you here but did she load up her car with as much of this FOOD, or this, Clothes, and personal items? Yes, she did. People close to Maura thought the amount of alchol she brought might be about right. What does that say? I'm not sure. But one thing is certain, if only to me. She made calls and looked up all these places BUT:
WAS SHE VERIFYING/LOCATING/TRYING TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE WHO HAD A ROOM WAITING? and not just trying to find a place? People said Maura was too smart to just give away any plans she may have had. This was back in the rumor days of CC fraud, etc, and I wonder if they could be true. Maura would look these place up to throw people off her trail? Sounds like a dumb movie. I hardly even watch TV, promice. But why not? Why not mislead, download or go get thoses papers to make it seem as though this were your plan.
Sorry for the caps, just wanted to bold my thoughts fo that sentence.
And besides, if someone is blackmailing you, you might really need all your crutches to make it through such a thing, so why not extra booze?

I had to chuckle at this, the "promiment family" in Grafton County huh? Like the Kennedy's? lol

I'm not sure how much feel you have for the area, but there is no prominent family anywhere up here. No such thing, doesn't exist. I know you will argue, but the fact remains the area could not be more working class blue collar.

Have you ever been to Grafton County? I mean, the courthouse and County Attorney's office sits next to the friggin jail, you can watch the inmates tend to the vegetable gardens while you wait for trial. In the spring the smell of manure on the fields is so strong you don't want to walk outside in a suit some days.

Sometimes the things said on here are so ridiculous it makes me laugh.

But it's just a hunch, one that maybe only I have ever had, so never mind me guys. It wouldn't do much good to talk about that kind of angle, we'd all need a much longer lead rope, lol

JMO but blackmail seems the least likely. What would someone get out of it since she wasn't rich? I think that even if she didn't want police involved she eould have gone to family with it.

Oh yeah. You haven't been here long enough to remember Shack always talking about the "upper crust" and the prominent families who apparently have everyone either scared to talk about this kid, this criminal genius. Because apparently "the family" control the whole area. Very powerful people, don't you know. Not people you want to screw with. Apparently they might have a relative that won't change your tires at the local gas station if you screw with them, or any of their kin. Or something like that.

FrmLE - Why would the police request or ask for Maura's items in the car and her computer be returned to them? Is that common practice? It does make me raise the question?

No, that's ok, I'll admit it. I was just rambling on about how it could be. I failed to elaborate, and you're gonna love this (not really), but blackmailing her, as in you sleep with me or else" and hey, there's this matter of 4,000 possible dollars floating around at the time. I just wonder at times, that's all.
