what does henry Hill have anything to do with small town dynamics anyway? I really don't understand your comparison at all Lighthouse.
What is was inferring was why would anyone want to live in a town that had a murderer running loose with a get out of jail free card?

Why wouldn't anyone just fess up and then leave the unsafe town?

My example of Henry Hill was people do rat out other people even when they know the consequences.

Your right I am in college. I haven't experienced home ownership and please don't take what I say personally. I'm not trying to attack anyone on the forum.
There was an ID disappeared that showed the local sheriff not wanting to accuse the boyfriend of the girlfriend's disappearance. Eventually a new sheriff did get elected and got he man to plea to man slaughter. I am not saying that this doesn't happen. I forget the episode, but they found the girls body in a barrel.
I don't take it personal at all. I can understand how it is difficult for someone to wrap their head around what I had posted unless you actually experience it.

We also don't know if others came forward or not and they just don't have enough to convict yet. Billwood did come forward to LE. LE was said to have asked to search the property but was denied.

Something like this would actually be enough to qualify as a "prominent" family in quite a few small towns.
I agree hannah_b. Sometimes with "prominent" family being interpreted as well respected & sometimes interpreted as not to be crossed. I dont know enough about the social structure/demographics of the area to say one way or the other.

This may be slightly off topic but a few of you may remember the book Peyton Place by Grace Metalious. It was made into a movie and later a tv series. It's a fictional novel based on several real NH towns (Laconia, Gilmonton & Gilford). I've been told it created quite a scandal in the area at the time. Some of the events depicted in the book were loosely based on real people and real events. I remember watching it ions ago at my grandmothers. Here's the link to wikipedia if anyone's interested.

I left too about 7 years ago but it was because I found a bigger house with a bigger yard. I didn't move because I was afraid of anyone. That's the stupidist thing I ever heard of. Do you dream this stuff up at night jwb?

FRMLE- I totally get the prominent family concept. I have learned the hard way as I am smack dab in the middle of observing what goes on in a small community. You would not believe the politics that go on beneath the scene. you can't even sneeze and the rest of the town knows about it.
The are big clicks in these small towns as just about everyone it seems is related to each other in some way shape or form. I have seen it first hand people getting railroaded for squeeling or upsetting the good ol'e boy network. It is so entrenched. it is more than not getting air pumped at the local gas station. I have seen people get pushed out of there jobs.
I have seen down right lying and coverups for wrong doing and then railroad someone else for it that was an outsider. I saw it happen within the last couple years and I continue to see cover up for the people because they are first gen locals from a well known family.
Then if you add to the fact that the family that Billwood referred to was in a power position then I can easily see people not wanting to talk.
I Call BS. I am sure in your imagination people are out to get you and all that, but in real life nothing goes on here that would in any way constitute 'out of the ordinary' in any small town/County anywhere else.

Can you provide some examples perhaps?

I moved from the Haverhill area to the Lincoln/North Woodstock are about 7 yrs ago and I have only been met with friendlyness and kindness. With your attitude it doesn't surprise me that the locals don't open their arms to you. Just maybe it's you that is the problem and not them. Think about that.

I think he does, really I do. Just sits there all day watching daytime TV thinking about the most interesting, dramatic scenarios for every little thing and creating an interesting fantasy life to replace the dull life he has.

That's just my opinion, but it seems to fit.

That's interesting, didn't realize the book was based on NH towns. Although, it could be *any* small town area, really.
I've lived in both small towns and large cities, and although I like the small town atmosphere generally, I dislike them for the pervasive gossip.
I don't think it is likely that if someone in the Woodsville/Haverhill area had actual information about a local being involved in Maura's disappearance, that such person would not contact LE due to fear of retaliation by the "suspect". LE can be contacted anonymously, after all. BUT, I CAN picture locals gossiping and rumoring that so-and-so is a bad egg, could have done it, etc. Gossip is hard to pin down to a source, there are small and large enmities everywhere and everything just vague enough that it turns to smoke when really looked at. Any LE who are local would be in the best position to evaluate these things.

Maybe you should point out where I said people are not friendly? I only spoke of the good ole boy network and protecting the entrenched locals. i would bet 60 % are related to each other if not more.

I agree. I have lived in two towns in NH and everyone I met has been nothing but friendly. There are people in the small town we are in that are related and are on certain boards but I have never felt like I was some kind of outcast simply because my great-great father wasn't born in the town. Or had to worry because of the "power brokers" in town. Absurd.

Some of the silliest of comments that I have heard. Shack use to come out with some of the same crap. And of course, the attitude of the complainants may definitely have something to do with it. I have never gotten anything but respect and kindness from the people I have meet all over New Hampshire. Of course, I gave them respect also.

If you sit in your trailor all day linconite it is difficult to get a pulse on what is going on in the community.

So you came from haverhill-- that explains things. Who are you related to in haverhill ? Prominent family maybe? Is that what brought you out of the woodwork today? How is the Woodstock station job coming along?

UhOh. Linconite. Now you did it. You must be part of the coverup, this massive conspiracy that I hear two people talk about. You must be upper crust as described by shack because you were able to move to the big city, Lincoln, with all the other upper crust.

You need to read a little better. I said in I think my first post that I left Haverhill area because I found a bigger house. Look up on Wiki the words "house" and "trailer". It will explain the difference. Once you learn the difference you will then see that I wasn't sitting in a trailer all day.
I'm not related to anyone in Haverhill and I have no idea how the Woodstock staion job is going because I don't work there. You do have a problem with trying to find out personal info on the posters here. I think it was grampamo that had you pegged on that. He was right.
