I'm a West Point parent too so I know what I am talking about as well. Billy has been gone from West Point for a long time but the medical separations are not something new. You don't repay if the Army decides you aren't commissionable because of a medical issue.

Maura was separated for an honor offense but she left before her junior year as I understand it. No repayment.

I asked my friend who's a mechanic & he said that with a regular shop rag that's folded right & put in the muffler right you can definitely get the rag to stay. He said this is an old school way of trouble shooting cars, done on muscle cars that have a way higher compression ratio than any Saturn has ever dreamed of. He said he can and has gotten rags to stay in mufflers. The reason a rageill stay whereas a potato won't is bc it isn't airtight, it allows some exhaust out. Not enough for it to run a long time but it will run for at least a few minutes sometimes longer if the car has a certain problem.
So a few posters who have no idea what they're doing isn't a very scientific method of determining anything.
There's a direct quote from the guy from ferris' automotive in Hanson who says its a good way to stall a car & according to Renner Lavoie said the same exact thing, I doubt he made that up.
This is a pretty known thing to anyone who's a car expert or enthusiast, it's noting new.

I'm sorry those two statements don't add up & can't really be mutually exclusive of one another. & I don't care what a few weirdos with agendas have to say on the matter, the vast majority of girls I know would take a ride from a seemingly nice stranger offering a ride, & they would probably take that ride over the wannabe cop bus driver who's talking about calling the cops. Do we even know that the SBD really did offer her to come to his house or was he talkin calling the cops first? Sounds to me like he was talking about calling the cops before having her come to his house, but that's jmo.

I do not and have not ever said what Jenkins says in this post. I have no theory that I believe in, and have never said I did. I change from week to week in what I believe happened to Maura, and I can never settle on one theory as I don't believe there is enough evidence to prove any of the theories. I believe she could have been abducted, I believe she could have run away and started a new life, I believe she could have perished in the woods, I believe she could still be alive and I believe she could be deceased.

I do not, and have never, had any "agenda" here. I was never in any of the previous Maura Murray forums and have only posted on Topix (and never on Renner's blog). I have no loyalty to the Murray family and I am not biased towards any viewpoint. I do not post here to "shut down" any conversation, and I am not in any group of "weirdos" who gang together to derail conversation.

Jenkins has peculiar tunnel vision - he sees only what he wants to see and disregards anything that doesn't fit his strange scenarios. He really doesn't read much of anything posted here, and if he does, he really doesn't understand it - he only cares about the sound of his own voice. This cartoon pretty much sums him up to me - simply replace the word "dogs" with "Jenkins":

Firstly, I openly admit to knowing very little about cars so apologies if the below sounds very silly but...

Supposing the rag in the tailpipe did cause Maura's car to stall wouldn't the car just coast to a stop? During my university days, my little car developed an electrical fault that occasionally caused the engine to cut out. I could still steer the car, though, and was able to bring it safely to a stop and restart. What I am trying to say is, could the car stalling alone cause the accident or would it require some action/ in-action from Maura e.g if she panicked and took her hands off the wheel or swerved?

Westmans's say that they heard an engine rev as if someone stepped heavily on the gas just before they heard a "thump".(the car hitting the snowbank on the inside corner of the curve). If the engine was sputtering for whatever reason(the rag?)my instinct would be to stomp on the gas to get it going. If this happened the sudden acceleration could have caused her tires to spin and lose control of the vehicle. The road conditions were dry per the police report so I see this as less likely to be the case, but just the burst of speed on the curve could have been the culprit. I am not convinced the rag was in any way important in this case and this is pure speculation.

I think that if the rag was in there in a way that would possibly stall the vehicle, that would have been a red flag to any LE personnel at the scene or afterwards and the investigation into her disappearance would have taken an entirely different track. LE may have not done some things that some would have liked them to, rightly or wrongly, but that would not have been something anyone would have ignored. Fred himself would have been much more vehemently aggressive about making this an abduction investigation had the rag held any importance. I know if it was my daughter, I certainly would have.

Maura Murray's father's Saturn was crashed 2/9/04.

An autobody person (BSG) saw damage to the Saturn before the Saturn left Amherst and was found abandoned shortly thereafter in Haverhill NH.

The same autobody person (BSG) who saw damage to the Saturn also saw the damaged Corolla.

Police inspected the Corolla after its crash.

The first PI to investigate Maura Murray's disappearance was a certified expert auto crash reconstructionist who does work for Amherst Appraisal, an auto crash appraisal company.

The PI's office has been located for the past few years exactly next to, in the same building as, Amherst Appraisal.

Amherst Appraisal's 2004 office abutted the property of the Hadley motel where Maura's father was a guest.(Amherst Appraisal and the PI's office still abut the motel's property line.)

The Corolla was, according to a Hadley MA police officer, towed to the Hadley motel where Maura Murray's father was a guest.

A post on Topix, in 2008, stated that, according to an anonymous autobody repairman (BSG), the Corolla was inspected by area police. This post was followed hours later, after dark, by minor vandalism to the poster's property.
