"The character is a friendly, verbose, disheveled-looking police detective (of Italian descent) who is consistently underestimated by his suspects. Most people are initially reassured and distracted by his circumstantial speech, then increasingly irritated by his pestering behavior. Despite his unprepossessing appearance and apparent absentmindedness, he shrewdly solves all of his cases and secures all evidence needed for indictment. His formidable eye for detail and meticulously dedicated approach, though apparent to the viewer, often become clear to the killer only late in the storyline."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_Waldo_...
"Ferdinand Waldo Demara, Jr.(December 21, 1921[1][2]– June 7, 1982), known as "the Great Impostor", masqueraded as many people from monks to surgeons to prison wardens.[3] He was the subject of a movie, The Great Impostor, in which he was played by Tony Curtis.

During Demara's "careers", he was, among other things, a ship's doctor, a civil engineer, a sheriff's deputy, an assistant prison warden, a doctor of applied psychology, a hospital orderly, a lawyer, a child-care expert, a Benedictine monk, a Trappist monk, an editor, a cancer researcher, and a teacher. One teaching job led to six months in prison. He never seemed to get (or seek) much monetary gain in what he was doing – just temporary respectability.[citation needed]

Many of Demara's unsuspecting employers, under other circumstances, would have been satisfied with Demara as an employee. Demara was said to possess a true photographic memory and was widely reputed to have an extraordinary IQ. He was apparently able to memorize necessary techniques from textbooks and worked on two cardinal rules: The burden of proof is on the accuser and When in danger, attack. He described his own motivation as "Rascality, pure rascality"."

Well the IQ and Photographic Memory are correct. And I do Have many disguises.

Check your windows to be sure they are open and listen.......
Can you hear the laughter in the breeze?
The disguises I believe but the idea of you having an extraordinary IQ and a photographic memory has caused me to choke on my Pepsi spewing it all over my keyboard. After a rinse in the sink I still can't stop laughing. Listen....Hahahahahahahahahah!

Good one SnowyB. That would be a more fitting role for the poster with the many monikers.

Does anyone recall reading anything about the New Year get-together Maura alleged attended, supposedly somewhere in NH, roughly 5 weeks before she vanished? If this has already been discussed and dismissed, I guess I missed it and I apologize for being boring. If there's any validity to the idea that MM "met someone new," and may have traveled with or to meet this person on 02/09/04, it's always seemed to me that this party would have been a real possibility for where she met him/her. How did Maura get there, if her car was running badly? Who did she ride with? In what NH town was the party? Was it at a private house with a fixed guest list, or at a resort or ski lodge, perhaps, with an "open door" policy, and people wandering in and out, strangers mingling with people who knew one another? Has anyone who was there been questioned, either by LE or anyone else? Did anyone notice Maura spending a lot of time with a particular person?

There are a lot of colleges in NH--Dartmouth, UNH, etc.--and I wonder if MM could have met someone who was, say, a recent graduate, heading to California (or wherever) for a job or a school transfer for a graduate degree, and seeking someone to share the driving. It might have looked like a way out, temporarily or permanently, to a despairing young woman, and the person wouldn't have had to be a love interest. Could explain why she headed to NH, too ...

Okay, it's a long shot, but that party has always seemed to me to be a black hole, seldom mentioned, considered or taken seriously as possibly having any connection to MM's disappearance, but maybe I just missed that discussion.
