Thank you sooo much SC!!! I'm interested in a book about the subject also!! I'm fine with "low rent" as long as its not sleeze ya know.. I really appreciate it!.. I have plenty of books also but mostly Catholic books about different Saints... If you like Saint Philomena (My Patroness), I have some great books about her.. I also have Amazon Prime & it says I can borrow certain books but idk how to work it.. |

1 Thank you Snowy! I'm learning all I can about NH/VT areas because I am planning to move there with my daughter! The few states I found with the lowest crime where NH/VT/Montana (way to far)/The Dakotas (to far also), then you add in schools, plus we are Catholic, add in the fact that my daughter wants to see snow (it might snow here twice a year but gone the next day) & I hate the humid weather here (right now at 9:43am, 87 with 100% humidity, hard to breath outside, to many heat strokes) & seems the upper east coast is perfect for us! |

1 No, it's about the Clutter family murdered in Kansas in the late 50s by Perry Smith and Dick Hickok. I read it in high school (and it wasn't required) then saw the movie - it really got under my skin, and not in a good way. |

thanks, much, although i mostly read non-fiction, and was critical about Casey Sherman's book because his research was not as deep on one side of the issue as the other. there were plenty more facts to work with than MM's disappearance, so there should have been no need to present a semi-fictional account, IMO. if someone read the book without being local and knowing the involved individuals, or without having spent time delving into and debating the issues, then it might be considered interesting. i hope James Renner's book will contain ideas that are developed from verified, factual information, and will spark discussion as follow-up. by the time Sherman's book was published the aftermath of community debate had already subsided. i'm sure Columbo may hold a different opinion. the interest, for me came down to three men, face-to-face, in a matter of minutes that would finally shatter lives and families, and would send a wave through the small communities to divide opinions where tensions likely rippled back through a previous generation. not unique....this happens in urban environments all the time....but unexpected in the bucolic countryside of NH. in the end, i felt strongly that although Liko felt unmercifully harassed by McKay, he fired the first shot and killed a human being who also happened to represent LE. there would not be a jury. if there was, they would have struggled, not unlike the Trayvon Martin case, to assign culpability. strong emotions, heady debate. who put a bullet to Trayvon's heart? and he walks. and my heart did lie with this young man who was a product of his environment, and clashed with another man, deemed respectable by some, but at any rate, represented authority and the law. which brings me to gun control, gun violence, and the Live Free or Die motto. will we become a nation of taking the law into our own hands? and call it self-defense? anyway, my friend, i hope you'll take a peek at this article. it was written early on....days after the event, and i think it best represents good facts and a very fair assessment. much respect for this author. http://www.bostonmagazine.com/2007/07/collisi... |
Oh yes, I read that one as well. I believe Capote pretty much started the true crime genre? By the way, I found an account of a Mathew Blakesley from Lincoln in the courts section of the journal star. twenty two year old. lost his license for a year, didn't say why though. Funny, ever since they started discussing Mathew,who may be Mathew over there, granny has been strangely silent..... |

my reference here was to Liko....although, for whatever my single opinion matters, and while circumstances were very different, my heart also goes out to the murdered Trayvon Martin, as well.
"and my heart did lie with this young man who was a product of his environment, and clashed with another man, deemed respectable by some, but at any rate, represented authority and the law." i'll take the hit for going off-topic, but more core interests lie with all of these interactions that start between each of us, extend to our communities, our states, the nation and where the impact of violence, war and terrorism have globally changed lives forever. so, IMO, the little wars here are on Topix are meaningful, and represent just a sliver of the tensions we need to resolve out there in the world, one person at a time. sorry for the preaching. i'm procrastinating, too...work to do!!! hoping the heat breaks....doing my rain dance. |

Being that he lives so far away I wonder how he found all these dangerous people. Evidently he didn't find the ones that greeted you with guns drawn heh Columbo? Still laughing. ;) I agree with you. I don't believe it either. |
