oh, dear. i was reading posts, as i always do, from newest to oldest. i hadn't realized the conversation is embroiled, once again, with nonsense and the bitterness of a multi-monikered attention-seeker. my bad for trying to make sense of it. i think it's only a half-moon, so that's not a full explanation for the complainer to be on a broomstick. i'm going out to dinner now.

You know, after giving this a lot more thought, I was really amazed that, even though the FBI has gathered a great deal of information about Keyes' movements, that they had info for just two time periods in 2004, February and October. I also now find it even more amazing that they have info for the exact time period when Maura went missing - what are the odds of that happening?
One of the things you notice in Keyes' movements are that he is willing to drive thousands of miles in order to (presumably) find his victims. For instance, he flew to Manchester NH in October 2004 and drove a rented car 1,745 miles to do whatever he did on that trip. In 2009, he again rented a car in Manchester NH and drove 1,047 miles roundtrip to rob a bank and kill somebody in Tupper Lake, NY. He also appears to have not had a lot of money worries since he traveled constantly and went to places like Belize and Cancun and apparently had a habit of robbing banks. So I don't think that traveling and spending money for that travel would have stopped him from doing some seemingly irrational things.
So, with that in mind, it actually seems to me now that he very well could have flown to SLC in February 2004 and, possibly wanting an alibi for that trip, rented a car and flown to another airport and then flown to NH again. Considering his behaviors noted above, I really don't think it is too far-fetched. It is the incredible coincidence of the dates involved that makes me consider this scenario. It is more complicated than flying directly to his ultimate destination, more expensive and time-consuming, but if he was still concerned with covering his tracks in early 2004, I still think it is a possibility and I'm just throwing it out there if anybody feels like discussing it.
Keyes put 522 miles on the SLC rental car. I did some checking and found that there are four airports within a 522 mile trip driving radius, or 261 miles one way. Grand Junction Colorado, Boise Idaho and Jackson Wyoming are outside that radius. I also did a flight duration/2013 cost comparison just to see which airports might be more likely. All flights are to Boston, as he flew in to Boston a few times and it would be cheaper and less connections from these towns to Boston rather than Manchester.
Idaho Falls, ID - 214 miles - 7 hours -$528 one-way
Twin Falls, ID - 223 miles - 7 hours -$724 one-way
Pocatello, ID - 173 - 7 hours -$713 one-way
Elko, NV - 227 miles - 8 hours -$649 one-way
Of course, he could have just been visiting SLC, but again, it's the dates of February 6-13 that really have got me going hmmm ...

Awesome analysis as usual Maruchan! I personally think that what you are putting out as a possible scenario is, as Hannahb says, not his MO. There has yet to be mention of his using an alias and to rent a car and travel to another airport to fly out he would need one or the FBI would know about that one also. So far, nothing he has done that we know of was quite that clandistine. His movements seem to be very visible and open. Of course your scenario could be true and the alias travel is yet to be uncovered but right now I would say the odds were low. I would also assume that during his known travels, hundreds of people were murdered or disappeared all over the country, including the MM time frame and probably closer to SLC than NH so yes it is a coincedence but to me, yet, but not enough to draw a connection.

522 miles.
This is kind of interesting too. Since Keyes put more miles on the rental car than roundtrip to any of the airports I listed, I decided to check to see where he could have picked up those extra miles.
I've been to SLC and up to the Tetons and Yellowstone a few times, and each time I've gone I've taken the scenic trip along I-89 past beautiful Bear Lake to Jackson and points beyond. Lots of people do this, it's a beautiful drive. Thinking Keyes might have had time to do a more leisurely and more scenic route on his return to SLC rather than the boring I-15, I mapped it out on Google maps. I'll put that
map in a separate link in case Topix doesn't post it, but here are the basic directions.
From the Enterprise parking lot in SLC to the Idaho Falls airport parking lot, thence taking Route 26 southeast along the Snake River to meet up with I-89 and following that route southwest back to the I-15 and then back to the SLC Enterprise parking lot is:
522 miles.
Just more food for thought.
In case youre wondering....this post is probably one of the most significant posts in the history of this thread. Because it could actually lead somewhere. I encourage you to communicate this with the FBI. I doubt they have had the manpower to make your connections.
So...don't let the side skirmishes convince you that your work was any less than significant.

Think of the thousands of flight records just from the major cities. Also if you were expanding your scope of airports to search...i don't think anyone would pick Post falls to include in the queries.

The FBI released the information because they aren't as all knowing with access to all records everywhere. It would be a very daunting task just to assemble a unified database of passengers just from major cities.

This is something that should be followed up on by the FBI. No one can expect a solution now. But we can expect to find some possibilities.

Why is it that some new posters, or newly named posters, start immediately with insults, then turn around and try to make a legitimate post and seemingly expect anyone to give a crap about what they say?

My post left open all possibilities, I do not need your help to open my mind to them.

I've also been concerned about Citigirl but I can't really blame her for not wanting to post again with the threat of "more to come" about her hanging over her head.
I would also love to hear Renner's take on his favorite poster.
it takes a lot to chase away the original regulars. i hope citi's not posting is a sign that she finds the most recent conversations and trends on this topic to be distasteful and outside the boundaries of acceptable, and not that she feels threatened. perhaps she has even initiated legal action, against the outreach of accusers.

there's a fine line, in my view, of how JRenner represents himself in his investigatory practices for the purpose of book-writing. while i don't follow is FB interactions as some others do, the report of his still solid connection with JG makes me question the integrity of his sources, if info is gleaned through his sidekick.

so far, JRenner has kept up a dignified front, as i would expect, in places that i visit. after all, retaliatory scrutiny of posters, as JG reportedly suggests, is not the intelligent approach to the question of how and why MM disappeared.

perhaps there is nothing worse than a wannabe female gossip....especially when you are a male.
and if JWB is the source of gossip, further taken up by JG (before he ditched him), then credibility is lost all around. JRenner would surely be wasting his time.

Just a quick update.

The reason I have not been updating lately is that I'm deep into the process of writing this book. I'm really trying to finish it up in the next month or two and get it moving along through editing so that it can be out some time in 2014.

The process of writing has kicked up some new avenues of investigation and after this first draft is finished it's obvious that I will have to make one more trip to the North Country and there will be updates then. One thing that has come out is that Maura had several other suitors at UMass other than Hossein.

John Green is a friend of mine. I think he's a cool guy. But he's doing his own thing, complementary to my stuff. The decision to leave the blog was his.

I would put the odds of Maura being alive at something like 50/50 at this point. Those are pretty good odds by the way, all things considered.

And of course you notice the major difference between Ridiculous and JG. Ridiculous took that to heart and has not outed or said he was going to out anyone else. Unlike JG who repeatedly uses that as a stick after saying maybe he did a bad thing and shouldn't have done it.

See the difference? It is the difference between a sincere thought and using feigned statements to cover what appears to be a pattern of lies to proceed to do whatever he wants.

Oh, and I personally think very highly of Ridics posts. They are ofter insightful and many times funny as hell.

Perhaps complimentary in a good cop/ bad cop sense. Not so much that there is collusion about the method but that some of the dirty, slimy underside needs to be looked at, by unethical or illegal means and one with less respect, morals, scrupals and regard for others safety or privacy is necessary to undertake the task.
