You are correct in what you write. What has happened in the past, repeatedly, was that the theory was never stifled. When it was pointed out to most of the murder proponents the fact that there was no physical evidence to indicate that is what happened, they repeatedly and loudly claimed that they were being abused. When some of them went on to actually accuse specific people, by name, then it got heated, though it didn't even start that way. One in particular was told repeatedly that what she were doing was counterproductive to having locals help with this investigation. Over months this was repeated, in particular to this one individual. Yet, the accusations continued unabated for months and months. It took a full on internet bludgeoning by several to prevent this person from continuing her attack. Many of the people that want the murder/abduction theory to be true, seem to need that. Again, one in particular seems to have a grudge against the locals in the area and the damage she did still lasts until today I am certain. I suspect even now if someone does know something, they still won’t come forward because of the fear of what she did to people who only tried to help Maura.
