Airbags are one of the more expensive parts of a car to replace. Assuming you carry collision coverage, your insurance carrier may total out your car based on the cost to repair vs the value of the vehicle. If your car is not worth that much, you may just wish to withdraw the claim,
cut out the airbags
and continue to drive your vehicle. I would probably drop collision coverage and save that money for a new car.
If you don't have collision, you will just have to cut them out and continue on with life.

Now Granny,

I know your a warrior and given the opportunity, you are more than willing to take anyone on in a one on one fist fight. Lord knows you've challenged me multiple times. In fact, the more I ignore these challenges, the tougher you get. It scares the crap out of me frankly.
It occurs to me that you get a little drunk when posting here and sometimes you just throw caution to the wind. Upon reading your recent posts, I have some concerns; As you know, your name and address have been posted at this site.
Knowing what I now know about the deviants and scumbags that are literally swarming your area, I beg of you, for your own safety, to please tone down your comments. As I said, it's very obvious that you are a warrior and very capable as a pugilist, but, having dealt with some deviant scumbags in the past, I wish to advise you that these people, while twisted, are still capable of planning and successfully pulling off acts of violence against even the mightiest of warriors. If you've ever seen a pack of coyotes attack larger prey, you'll notice that they dont go for the juglar at first. A couple of "dogs" will distract the intended victim with a frontal assault, while staying well away from actual harm while the remainder of the pack darts in and hamstrings the victim. It's cowardly I suppose but extremely affective.
I'm just very concerned that these last few posts of yours, having been echoed from the very bowels of the coyotes den, will get you hamstringed and noone wants to see that happen.
On a totally different note; I appreciate your concern over the families unwillingness to take me on vacation with them. It was very hard to accept,but after having raised my boys to be haters, I take responsibilty for the situation and intend to lecture on it next friday when my youngest gets his award at school for his summer anti bullying campaign.. xoxo

BillNH: i've been hesitating on posting this response to your question of abduction/murder since you asked. and though i haven't been posting much of late, i'm still thinking a lot about the circumstances of maura's disappearance. so, i'll break down my reasoning on each of the four prevailing theories and why i am presently leaning towards abduction/murder. i wholeheartedly grant that there may be flaws in my assumptions and thoughts, but that is as true for anyone who posts here, so it doesn't bother me too much. and sorry in advance for the post length.

theory 1 – suicide:
friends and family say there were no indications of extreme emotional upset, other than the thursday night breakdown, to indicate that maura might be suicidal. but her friends do acknowledge that maura was very secretive with her feelings and thoughts. while some who commit suicide will make effort to tidy up their lives (ala "packing up the dorm room"), i find it difficult to reconcile that maura had items with her that indicate she was still taking care of herself: changes of clothing, toiletries, birth control, etc. and she had driven close to three hours north. if suicide was the goal, why travel to do so? for me, these things rule out suicide.

theory 2 – runaway:
given what we now know of government tracking of americans' personal and financial data – and how long it's been going on – coupled with the facts that maura's phone, credit cards, ssn and bank accounts haven't been touched in almost ten years, run away seems so unlikely. not to mention that in the intervening years, maura's mom has died and she has never contacted any one in her family in spite of how close she was with her dad. these things discount the runaway scenario for me.

theory 3 – lost and succumbing to the elements:
i know this one touches on several nerves, so i want to tread lightly as it may evoke the strongest reaction. it's believed maura was drinking while she drove, maybe significantantly intoxicated. if she was intoxicated enough to get disoriented and wander into the landscape to die of exposure, i have a hard time accepting that mr. forcier saw her 4-5 miles east of the accident that night. but law enforcement found his testimony to be credible, resulting in a new search of the area. if maura is coherent enough to get that far from the scene, she is also in the process of sobering up, not getting more intoxicated so that she wanders off into the woods further away. if she's so intoxicated that she cannot function and wanders into the woods and succumbs to the elements, it is my belief she would have been found by now within a five mile radius of the scene. after numerous, extensive searches, that has not yet happened. however, it could one day.

theory 4 – abduction/murder:
first, i strongly oppose those who condemn all the inhabitants of the area based on this theory. as others have said, there are bad folks anywhere you go, but that doesn't make entire areas bad as a whole. the night maura disappeared, butch atwood indicated there were several cars who passed by his house, inferring that they also passed by maura and her car, after he left her. since he told her that he planned to call police when he got home and she realized he lived 100 yards away, the countdown was on. she quickly cleans up, locks up and gets what she wants/needs and is looking to get away from the area fast. getting away fast means catching a ride out of the area, maybe back to woodsville. if so, the fact that no one has come forward to say they gave her a ride would mean, if she got a ride, that person doesn't want anyone to know. why not is because maura has not been seen nor heard from since. i could see this as an abduction of opportunity, not something planned or scouted by a prowling killer on the loose. i could see it as someone taking advantage of an intoxicated girl and things going from bad to worse.

running out of room, but that is where i'm at right now on these theories.

Thank you for the reply.

Very good analysis of the known information, even reminded me of some things I had forgotten.

You have made it very easy to see why you favor theory 4 over the others and again I thank you for the well thought out and supported response.

That said, our thinking is not entirely different for all 4 theories but where they differ slightly is what separates them enough for me right now to keep theory 4 at the bottom of the list vs. the top of yours.

Thanks again!

I would like to make another request of the group.

After reading whatif's post I noticed something interesting, or at least I think so. I will start looking back through some past posts from all sources to see if it exists elsewhere but in the meantime please look at those 4 theories and tell me if anything jumps out at you? Sorry if I am being vague but I also don't want to influence the thought process. If it's not as apparent to others then I will keep it to myself. I am also not sure what the ultimate conclusion I will be able to draw from the analysis is. I would appreciate anyone's participation, all I ask is that those participating please take it seriously. Whaif, I am not picking on your post by any means but the way you wrote it easily lends itself to this type of analysis. I still believe it was a very good post and was exactly what I was looking for when I asked the question.

You must think deeper. You must think in code. Stay alert to hidden meanings. Here's the solution.

1 = Optic
9 = Nerve
7 = Sheath
4 = Fenestration

I don't believe anyone has said that there are no sketchy people in the Haverhill area. We all know there are not-nice people everywhere. What I and others take exception to is the blanket description of the area as sketchy because of a few people and to the immediate jump to accusing these sketchy people as potential murderers just because they are sketchy. I try to defend the Haverhill area from these blanket accusations and many of us try to at least expect people to show some kind of link to MM before labeling them as responsible for her disappearance. And again, no evidence a crime was even committed in her disappearance so naming suspects and accusing people is a bit premature anyways. What you and others see as blocking conversation is actually trying to get the villagers to put away their scythes and pitchforks and nooses until some real direction for the anger emerges. And after 9+ years, we are still waiting.

Theory 1, suicide. The night Maura smashed into the guardrail, she was super apologetic. She kept saying she was sorry and told her dad "this is the worst ever" Billy thought "it had to be something else" and it took him "a long time to calm Maura down." That was Sunday in the wee hours before dawn.
Maura went to work six or seven hours later. In that short timeframe she made the long call to Billy, slept, woke to explain things to her father, and whatever it took to get ready for work.
Fred picked her up and dropped her off at the dorm after work. They said their goodbyes. His lasting impression was that "Maura felt she had let her father down."
Then, Maura spoke to both Billy and Kathleen a couple few hours before the 11 o'clock call to her dad.
After denying that there was anything outstanding in the conversation with her sister that evening, Kathleen later says that Maura *had* been having trouble with Billy and that she probably went to the White mountains to sort it all out.(Caledonian article)Now, Sharon swore that everything was hunky dory after the rough period in 2001 or 2. But think of this. In the summer of 03, she was staying with the coach. The one who says that Maura "wished she could disappear" Her friends,(but maybe not all of them) wanted her to get away from Billy, and so she was,~at least for several months in 03. By the fall however, Billy and Maura came back to one another, and went hiking along with Fred.
As for not staying at the dorm to kill herself, or driving into oncoming traffic down the road from the dorm.....I think she did want to go to her "favorite place on earth" and put all the issues into perspective. If she was already in the process of giving up, she would not want for anyone to find her that way.(to find her lifeless) In other words, would rather go to a place where she would never be seen again, and somewhere that really mattered to her.

2: Maura was capable of using another’s credit card.
3: Mr. Forcier saw a hooded person. He never identified that person as Maura.
4: Faith Westman implied that no cars passed between Atwood’s exit and Smith’s arrival. See http://goo.gl/ZVh2zq .
But to #4, Faith also said she stopped looking when she saw the SBD pull up to Maura's car. So how would she really know if any cars came along or not? Confusing too is that she saw Maura at the car 1-2 minutes before police arrived. Maybe Maura did go around the corner and get into some vehicle?

Sammy,

I really don't have time to do this for you on a regular basis. I broke the code. 1974 was the year that The Easter Beagle debuted on peanuts comic strip. On a side note..It was Ted Bundy's most prolific year and we had that whole Nixon Watergate thing going on. Lennon saw an UFO over NYC and sadly, " Jeff The Skunk " Baxter left Steely Dan to play for the Doobies. Nothing against The Doobies, love them,but damn, The Skunk with Steely Dan was some of the best progressive jazz ever labeled as Rock and Roll!
I hope this has been helpful.... ; )
