So any question about whether it's connected to Maura is not something I can speak to; I would only be guessing. I guess I'll defer to JWB for questions. Tom is a bit more reluctant to talk; but I'll pass questions along to him. Thank you for your patience JWB. No problem at all Sam,I am and have always been and open book I understand the skepticism cause I was skeptic of Tom and that is why I went to check out the overlook. Now, I can only answer to what I did and observed.I am an open book and will call it real.

I will say one thing: I am really disgusted by lighthouse insinuating that I took the ribbon and poster down. I have done nothing but try and help to the best of my ability. I asked for help with supplying me posters so that I could personally plaster them again in hopes of triggering a someone to come forward. I was told no thanks print them off yourself. Well, at that point I was ready to call it quits as I was so upset that Mauras family member would say that. I took a deep breath. I put up a poster anyways and looked into buying a ribbon but they cost $45 plus for the size that was on there. I was not aware of Mauras case at the beginning and if if I was I would have helped then.

Sam Ledyard wrote: <quoted text> Like I've said to you via email, I truly believe that you did the right thing (although it's been difficult at times). Personally, I think the bag is significant whether or not it's Maura's. The fact that it was evidently not followed up on by state police is a terrible thing. Maura's case is part of the reason that the CCU exists. And the backpack find illustrates the CCU's importance. Agree- though after I calmed down my gut told me it was probably not related. I was just totally shocked to see it still there, The pack left a good indent in the ground and so did the koozie but the bud can in the Koozie did not look weathered enough. The backpack was flat and hard and I an not sure if it was 10 years old or not, Someone obviously took the stuff out that Tom talked about cause it was empty, The pack was sitting near and old downed tree as Tom said. IDK what else to say - As far as the camera on my phone goes, I never use the feature and never thought of it, I am not a young guy into tech I guess . I also remember a feeling of being so creeped out that I just wanted to hurry and get out of there. I went up to the overlook cause I didn't believe in Toms story and was looking to debunk it once he gave further details of location. I would not be posting nor calling the CCU and Mauras Adm if this was not my findings.

I don't think it is Mauras back pack and the MM adm couldn't give me a definitive yea or nay on my description.
I contacted again 2 days ago and was told LE had not contacted them but they adm hadn't talked to Fred in a week.
I personally think it is a motorcycle backpack of some kind as it had the words "Motor Bag" I was emailed a gen pic of Mauras bag and it didn't match cause of the plastic portion.
I doubt very much that anyone really knows for certain much detail on her backpack anyhow and that is why i was told that the info would be passed down and that the plastic see through partition on the back was not a familiar characteristic to Adm.
I don't feel it was a family plant at all or it would have been more similar to the pic they emailed me.

I was only trying to find the area that Tom was trying to describe. I was thinking- Do I touch it - do I open it OMG what if this is the evidence we have been looking for. Is there a dead body near me. This is very very thick brush.I just wanted to get the hell out of dodge and tell someone . Yea- it is very bizarre and I was in your position looking in I would be skeptical of it to, but that is the honest truth .

She had seen Maura's backpack at Thanksgiving. They acknowledge that it's merely "similar" to the bag she had -- not the same. The fact is; they don't know. Neither do we. They deserve answers. It would be nice if we got some.

I don't really know who sent me the pic but it came from their ADM site and yes I agree, who pays attention to there daughters backpack when she is a student who lives on Campus and had for a while. Yes- They do deserve answers and many caring people are trying to help in some way.

The family relies on her memory of the bag. It would seem that Sharon remembered it better than Fred or Laurie.
