Topix only dictates anonymity on Topix. You have every right to post under a moniker, but that in no secures your anonymity nor does it make it a recognizable right outside of this forum.

Good post. By those qualifications, I can see how you may claim a moral right based on your own beliefs. However, your personal beliefs do not dictate the actions or beliefs of the rest of the world.

Let me be clear, when I refer to "right" I mean to say there is no legal right to anonymity. At least that I'm aware of. In the sense that it would be illegal for me to cross reference all of the information I know about you against individuals offline to identify you.

I certainly appreciate privacy. And anyone who deserves privacy, in my opinion, should get it. However, I believe when "Suzanne" wrote the Geocities letter, that gave others valid reason to begin looking into her. I do not believe she deserves privacy in that regard.

once again, the origin of the geocities link was previously examined, but you're well aware of that. there seems to be some pride in unearthing old news and harping at perceived meanings and messaging from ancient topix posts. well, you'd best stop talking about it and just get to it. when White Noise hears from you and the band of merry men, she'll likely have a good laugh and a hair toss.

Why would someone have a "good laugh" over posting a lie regarding a missing person online? Do you know why White Noise wrote the letter?

Basically - I believe that Observer didn't like Suzanne's opinion, and that she saved some of Suzanne's postings. Later, she decided to copy and paste a few choice words that Suzanne used into the Maura Canada Site, and Samuel has has found these common words:

"Squaw Walk - I find this phrase course, vulgar, crude, insulting, degrading, sexist and racist. Unlike certain people here I am neither an FM worshipper or defender but I find it very hard to believe that ANY father would ever say this about his missing daughter. Did someone actually hear/overhear Fred say this? Where did the report of him saying this originate? If Fred actually did say this then it puts a completely different complexion on this case. Disregarding the vulgarity, I would still have to wonder wherever he would have gotten the idea that his daughter would commit suicide? I linked here and on MM an anniversary piece (Fox44) in which a local (NH) is interviewed and says "i think she had a fight with her father and ran away to start a new life." Why I should be influenced by this 'man in the street' opinion, I do not know but it hit me in a certain way, it just seemed to have the ring of truth about it. Coupling this with the cruel squaw walk statement (IF he actually did say it) changes everything for me. "

What book? Renner's? Are you kidding me? I'm certainly very excited to read James' book, but I have absolutely nothing to do with it. Why would I be trying to "breathe life" into a book that I'm not at all associated with? Your theory is beyond fundamentally flawed. I personally don't even think Maura is in Canada as I see absolutely no evidence that has ever suggested that -- outside of the Geocities Letter. Hence, the desire to find the root of the Geocities Letter in order to dispel the idea she is in Canada.

What is so hard to understand about my position? It's really not that complex. It's far less sexy than you make it sound.

On its surface, this sounds reasonable.

But I have two questions.

First, assuming that I am correct that Suzanne lied about being a journalist, was that just a coincidence? Or might it have motivated Suzanne II?

Second, who were Suzanne's subsequent monikers under this theory? Suzanne I, Suzanne II or second person who wished to copy Suzanne?
