The purpose of this forum, or any other forum, blog or website is NOT to solve the case; that's simply not happening. Contrary to what Renner's cheering section thinks he ain't solving this case.

The purpose of these forums is to generat publicity for the case, which is absolutely critical for LE to solve any case. There's a saying in LE circles 'a police is only as good as his best informant', meaning LE ain't shit without information from the public. Without witnesses most cases would never be solved.

In a case like this, one where a suspect isn't immediately apparent, & it's not immediately apparent a crime even occured tips from the public is all they got. Right now there ain't no crime scene, no body, no nothing. I believe they pretty much know what happened but until they have her body they can't do anything. This is the kind of case where info from the public can be absolutely critical to bringing a resolution. Keep the case in the public eye until the right person hears about it who has that little piece of info that could blow the case wide open.

I don't think anyone can dispute the fact that the forums & online community that has sprung up around this case have kept the case in the public eye. If it wasn't for people posting online about it this case would've been forgotten long ago. Newspapers write articles on things they think people are interested, all the online activity surrounding this case give a reason to write articles. In fact most articles nowadays mention the online community that has sprung up & if not mention it they are about it. I bet you could write a more interesting book about the community that's sprung up following the original MM.com forums than the actual case itself, which has very few actual facts known to the public.

There's been many other cases but none get the coverage of MM's case & that's bc they don't have online communities constantly discussing the case. Case in point: the Louise Chaput case, woman found murdered in Pinkham Notch in '01, iirc. This woman was brutually stabbed to death up here, it's unsolved & if you google it there's like a couple articles about it at best. That's crazy, we don't even know MM was murdered yet there's articles written about her, TV news, a book being written, etc. Stark contrast to the Louise Chaput murder. That's just as big of a mystery & even more scary bc we know for a fact there's at least one free murderer roaming the north country, how is that not more of a big deal?
That's what the family wanted & that's what they got, for better or for worst. That was why the forum was started in '04, to generate publicity that could maybe hopefully lead to a useful tip. I think now the family wishes they could turn it off & make people stop talking about it, why do you think we got Columbo calling out the stupid monkey guy? Is he serious with this shit? I've said that the likes of wowzer are trying to shut down the convo but really they're just trying to manipulate it, it looks like Columbo is actually trying to end it cuz shit like the monkey guy is what's really gonna end it. Make so many pointless posts that people need to skim thru pages to find one real post? People will get tired of that real quick. How this alleged monkey possibly has the time to do this is just unbelievable, but apparently he does & a rather large stash of cocaine to help him on his way. Lol, that was hilarious whoever said that about him, after you said that I was like yup, that's exactly what that looked like. Lol

anyway, he is sold on keeping MM in the eye of the public. hardly. interest is not generated by reading topix, weblsleuths or JR's blog…sustained interest is personal and unique.

Jenky was such a cop hater, and now speaks with some respect….wanting the public to engage and assist the official investigation. a clearly different Jenky.

i don't believe MM is the only story worthy of time and attention. so many others are missing, lost, or came to meet with foul play.

actually, i DO wish her family was more forthcoming and less suspicious in reporting about her….and not dismissing her past as irrelevant. of course her past, immediately prior to her disappearance, WAS and IS highly relevant!

that, and the careless, random insults thrown against the people living in the area where she disappeared…the drama. the chess moves.
i guess everyone behaves differently to fear, sadness, loss and grief.

well, Jenky, i just wouldn't believe what you or i or anyone is so special or helpful….JR put his teeth into this more than many, and has taken the hits for his bold, often tactless assaults against "the family". in many ways, no different than "the family's" bold, often tactless assaults against NH residents local to the area where she disappeared.

i'll leave this….at an incomplete thought. just random.

i can hardly see how the pettiness and drama of Saturday nites with the guy on the moped, the personal vitriol, or any number of similar shenanigans have been valuable.

the official investigation is fine without topix, and i trust between them and the natural course of life….that answers will become evident.

Have you ever taken to time to observe the amount of spamming that happens when Det. Columbo is posting on the forum vs when Det Columbo isn't posting on the forum?
