Don't be afraid Snowy if you come up here. How scary can it be if the ones that are claiming it's such a dangerous place also claim they live here and I haven't heard any mention that anyone is moving to a safer place. Come on up and enjoy the views but wait a week or so and catch the foliage.

Love to see a picture FrenchTown. Bill lack of sun? is that why they have spray on tan for?

No one has suggested that the residents of NH pack up and run screaming from the state because of a crime wave. Crime is on the increase in this area in both frequency and level of violence. It is stated by both the chief of police and the town manager. Are they just exagerrating the situation as well? I'll take my cues from the people in charge rather than some random forum posters. From an article by Bernie Marvin 9/3/09 in The Bridge Weekly "Smith said this week he will study the eight man department proposal and may approach the board with that request. He said he might possibly be doing this because of the nature of the crimes being committed in Haverhill. He said Haverhill has had several murders over the years and the nature of criminal action is changing, from what was a usual Saturday night beating to a murder. And it was pointed out earlier by Town Manager English that the crime rates are climbing in town because of the poor economy."

Absurd! http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/nhcrime.h... http://www.disastercenter.com/newhamp/crime/7... Looking at the statistics: NH Ranks in number of murders: 2005 - 48 2006 - 51 2007 - 51 2008 - 50 out of 51 with 1 being highest 51 lowest NH Ranks in number of Aggravated assault: 2005 - 49 2006 - 50 2007 - 50 2008 - 50 out of 51 with 1 being highest 51 lowest NH Ranks in number of all Violent crimes: 2005 - 48 2006 - 48 2007 - 49 2008 - 49 out of 51 with 1 being highest 51 lowest The year 2009 had 10 total murders. The same statistics show that the murder rate per 100,000 is virtually identical to what it was in 1960. The worst year you had for murders was 1991 with a total of 40 for the whole year. The entire decade 2000-2009 has been one of the least violent in New Hampshire per capita. Burglary's, larcenies, and auto thefts are also down across the state since the start of the decade. Haverhill's statistics are hard to draw any conclusions from because any, I mean any violent crime that occurs, occurs so infrequently to make the statistics virtually useless. Even for trends. But absolutely no trends comes out of the data. Except for people who either want to increase their budget, or to try to fear monger. There have clearly been spurt of violence at other times, even in sleepy Haverhill. Four rapes and nine aggravated assaults were reported once in 1985 for a total of 13 violent crimes. Equaled in 2005 with 14 violent crimes of course with over 1100 more citizens. Lots of nothing after 1985 though the statistic go in five year increments until 2000 then yearly. Sleep well NH, I know I do. Bill

Bill ... Perhaps you should forward your opinion on to Chief Smith, because clearly he has no clue what does or doesn't go on in his town. Show him your statistics and tell him how absurd he is. I'm sure he will respect your opinion as much as I do. You are so absolutely the best judge of what is needed in Haverhill, I'm sure they will be hanging on your every word.

CC. So can I take it from the wealth of information I have provided you. You haven't looked at one thing, correct? You may now baaa, baaa like the rest of the sheep into the night. Blips, like shit, happen. Doesn't mean you necessarily need to recreate the town. You should examine the reasons for this. Since I don't know where concerned citizen gets his information I won't waste my time with him/her. If you are someone that pays the taxes though, you might want to check into this with more than a cursory view. Through 2005 Haverhill has been basically crime free. See what the statistics show from 2005 to 2010. I don't have them. If you do, show them to us. That way instead of fear mongering and anecdotal evidence,(I heard someones sister tell his cousin that crime is running rampant in Haverhill) we would have something to base our thoughts on. Bill

WCAX is doing specials on missing persons from vermont and nh and the torture it causes family members. They mentioned Brianna, Maura, Ron Messier and Audrey Groat and interviewed family and friends. I appreciate their compassion which is so lacking in this thread. Kudos to WCAX And Vermont LE community!

Chief Smith just wants to make sure that he and his own have jobs. The portrayal of NH as a crime ridden area is absurd. Anyone who thinks that NH has a crime problem compared to almost ANY other place has obviously never traveled or is severely lacking in their observational capabilities.

Whenever they do the "heartstrings thing", its sweeps related. They are easy stories to do and they generate tremendous ratings. Bill

Anyone who thinks that NH has a crime problem compared to almost ANY other place has obviously never traveled or is severely lacking in their observational capabilities. You have to remember. It is the first job of any government organization to get bigger. If its not growing, it is on the outs. Have you ever seen any government organization get smaller? They only move in one direction. They get bigger. You always need to complain that you have neither enough money and/or personnel. Now in the police department, you use the worst statistics you can find to justify the growth. Nothing dishonest there but when things return to normal, could be next week, you never hear about them no longer needing two or three officers because they are just not needed, do you? Bill

If there is nothing to investigate, all the people have been questioned, the forensic evidence has been tested, all the leads exhausted. What exactly does the FBI bring to the investigation? Of course, this is if she is missing against her will. Which we have no evidence of. In memory of SBD Bill Quite simple, sometimes the police need to be policed(actual crimes commited or corruption)? Not to sound like im tarnishing my respect for le, I highly respect them. Outside of that, resources.

But fact is, there is a reason that this has been a dead end from the begining. What is the reason? The above mentioned, perhaps? I would never accuse anyone of anything that i didnt know as fact. All i was saying is the fbi would have the potential to keep everyone honest(local le, corporate money,etc...). There have been a thousand theories. Again, no accusations.. But one would wonder why the lack of intrest by the fbi. I am not sure, has the family requested them? If not, why? Not a jab by any means. But i can truly state as fact, if one of my kids went missing and it was handled even remotely like this case was from the begining. I would have a congressman or senator envolved. I can guarantee you that i would do all in my power to have all the resources available that my tax dollars provide. I would also be searching every weekend as well. But, when asked about the past i would be upfront and forth coming. Whether it be a disfunctional relationship, homosexuality, alcholism, etc... In the reality of a situation like that, pride or status would not be a concern of mine. I truly think any decent parent would feel the same. But, at the end of the day maybe she left on her own accord for whatever reason or was envolved in something that required to change her identity. And that would explain alot.
