He's killing because he knows he can, but not for this reason alone. His are not sex-related crimes. Something that was reported to have happened regarding Maura the same day she disappeared seemed to draw less attention than deserved? what does the last sentence in the above quote mean/refer to?

After reading a lot of articles about Maura and watching Disappeared, reading blogs, etc. I find this case to be the most perplexing case I've ever heard of. I don't know why she was going to the mountains, or if that is in fact where she was going. I think the fact that she told her teachers she'd be back, and she brought school work, makes me believe she most likely was going to return to her life (she was NOT going to kill herself). The troubling part is, one, why would she tell the bus driver she didn't need assistance, and two, why would she remove the paintings from her wall/put her belongings in a box on her bed? This makes me think she didn't plan on returning to her life. Another point I'd like to make. She was reportedly seen my multiple people inside their houses...she was very close to them...if someone would have grabbed her, they would have heard screaming or a commotion outside, which makes me believe she either knew the person who picked her up, she willingly got into the car with a stranger, or she felt safe with the person (perhaps the 1st arriving cop?). From what I've heard, I just don't believe she'd get into a car with a stranger. She didn't allow the bus driver to call 911 for assistance, and she would have gone to a nearby house instead of getting into a car with a stranger in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, she was smart. I truly believe either the bus driver isn't telling the full story, or the cop got her.

Also, didn't the bus driver move to Florida shortly after the disappearance? I feel like the answers may be right in front of our faces. For one, there was only a 7-8 minute window where a total creep could have randomly, by chance, stumbled upon Maura. Maybe it was the bus driver. or the cop. I really believe it was one of the two. Occam's razor.

Do you think he wasn't a valid suspect in some of the valley murders? He was an absolute madman and seemed to embrace bloodshed. I don't think he had a thing to do with Maura, or all of the valley murders.

I truly believe either the bus driver isn't telling the full story, or the cop got her. Katie, Welcome to this forum. Having been following this case for several years, I fully agree that Maura´s case is a most perplexing one. After having read practically all publicly available information on this case, I would say that the school bus driver and the first responding Haverhill police officer have absolutely nothing to do with Maura´s disappearance. The school bus driver just would not have had any time to do anyhing with Maura in the very short time span available and was living with his elderly mother and girlfriend some 100 yards from where Maura´s car came to a rest on rte 112. He tried his best to help Maura, was rebuffed but none the less called the police like a good citizen. As for the first responding Haverhill police officer I truly believe he did all that could be expected from him under the circumstances. IMHO, no blame should be placed upon this officer. However, as for the NH state trooper who by all accounts was operating in radio silence for at least two unaccounted-for hours shortly after Maura´s vanishing, I remain much more suspicious. Apparently this trooper was driving around in his official cruiser when he at some unspecified time stopped by the place of Maura´s accident.

Occam's razor. Katie, Please, see me previous response to your earlier post. I agree with you that Maura was probably picked up by a driver of a passing car, willingly or by force. However, as I tried to explain in my previous post, I wholeheartedly believe that neither the school bus driver nor the first responding Haverhill police officer had anything whatsoever to do with Maura´s disappearance. I believe that you likely will come to agree with my conclusion the more you keep reading and learning about the details of this case.

Monaghan wasn´t driving aimlessly around. He was off duty and on his way home and therefor as I understand it, not required to keep radio contact. The CW´s alleged sighting of Maura further down rt 112 has according to a news article late in 2009 (IIRC), no longer available online been deemed credible by LE. Tracking dogs are very good but not infallible.

Just out of curiosity where was it officially stated the trooper was driving around in radio silence for two hours? I was under the impression he was going off duty when he happened upon Maura's accident scene. if indeed he was off radio for 2 hours when on duty that does seem odd.

so many geniuses abound. pure brilliance; proxied psychics, armchair profilers and droning preachers of the gospel splish-splashing 'round the pond. first a circus, and years of curious commentary about one person whom no one knows. interesting study in social psychology.

It absolutely amazes me how quite a few posters on this board starts going completely nutty as soon as the actions of the state trooper is being questioned in the least. This predictable behaviour is verging on the ludicrous and the bizarrely absurd! Are you all being part of the NHSP fan club or what´s the matter with your defensive posturing??? Your mantra seems to be this: Maura ran away, she committed suicide, she suffered some kind of accident, etc, etc. Basically, whatever happened was pretty much Maura´s own fault, one way or other. Don´t you even dare suggesting that some kind of foul play might - just might - have been behind Maura´s vanishing.... See no evil, hear no evil - because there are no suspicious disappearances and/or unsolved homicides anywhere in the states of NH and VT. NOT!!!
