Well, all this sleuthing of who is who on this forum is making huge strides in finding Maura. I am so proud to be associated with this forum. All these visitors who have that whole CSI thing going on. I shouldn't be, but I am always astonished at how easy they get side tracked. It really shouldn't surprise me. I mean, they have learned on TV that it takes four - fifteen minutes segments to solve any crime.
Bill
Come on they never solve it on the first 48 until after the last commercial break with two 1/2 hour segments. Then again maybe their detectives aren't as smart as the other programs. The only way to solve Maura's mystery is to have an episode of " on the case with Paula Zahn" I love it when she asks the perp, "did you kill him or her", like they lied to everyone else, but their going to tell Paula the truth on national TV, talk about sensationalism!

"find Maura", eh? "desperately". well, you're looking in the wrong place, i regret. but you would know that if you have been a "read only forum member for some time". after the circus left town, a few clowns stayed on to clean up the popcorn mess and to restore some semblance of order. it looks and smells much better now. a little tired and impatient, maybe, but not hateful.

I agree, my stance has been hypothermia which from what little facts we have seems the more plausible. Saying that I do not totally rule out other theories. As you stated Maura was a victim of her own actions, and I feel her actions were not totally rational from the beginning. She left under secrecy, to our knowledge she told no known close friends or relatives, and she obviously was in an emotional state which is only compounded by alcohol consumption. All a recipe for disaster, and it seems the recipe evolved into just that.
maybe yes, maybe no. possibly. probably. likely. i don't know for sure. could be.
but where's the body? it should have shown up within the first year or so, if, in fact, she expired. one might hope she is still alive, given there is no sign to suggest she is not. hoping Renner (when he returns) can uncover a link to someone, somewhere. it would seem to be a pretty gigantic task, given all due respect for the official investigation, which remains stalled.

brings me back to dear li'l Nancy Grace-on-the-case. she once ran an interview about MM, i believe, and has since listed her as missing in her scroll of cold cases....MM's disappearance seems truly stalled until there is new info.

MCH,
He is approaching them and not the other way around? Brianna had been instructed to move the car from the highway to that driveway? She was behind the steering wheel when the car hit the building? It seemed the only option. Escape? She was much more challenging than he had anticipated? Once again proves a book cannot be judged by its cover; cannot assess the strength of a young woman in that weight range under these circumstances? Violent, frenzied struggle? She's fighting for her life you know. The adrenalin. He's familiar with the youthful female body in more than the average way and yet had not anticipated this? The steering wheel helped protect her at least for a while? Not as easy as plucking an older lady from her home? Undoubtedly.

Katie,
Please, see me previous response to your earlier post.
I agree with you that Maura was probably picked up by a driver of a passing car, willingly or by force.
However, as I tried to explain in my previous post, I wholeheartedly believe that neither the school bus driver nor the first responding Haverhill police officer had anything whatsoever to do with Maura´s disappearance.
I believe that you likely will come to agree with my conclusion the more you keep reading and learning about the details of this case.
Bumping for Maura,
No one can ever say that le failed to respond. Three of them? A retired police officer, a police officer and a trooper all within a short time period. They appeared to believe she would be found walking along the highway? They drove around for a while in search of her? No Maura in sight. It were as though she had vanished into the night air.

Having hiked the area years ago ( 20 or so ) I can say with certainty that finding a body if in those woods is a daunting task. So much underbrush, thick woods, and then the ice storm that put so much debris on the ground I can understand why she hasn't been found if she's out there.

Its an huge area and even figuring out where to start is the million dollar question considering she may have been seen miles down the road. How many more miles did she go, did she take one of the side roads? Having tracked animals that expired in the woods I can tell you one can walk right by and not see it laying there. There are many small pockets, large rocks and debris. Worse part is what remains would be found at this point with animals lugging off bones. Maybe a cell phone, and some material which with all the leaves and such may well have been buried by now.

Same goes for if she's alive, why no trace no valid sighting no nothing. Yes the investigation seems stalled but those of us on the outside don't really know what's happening at the cold case level. Take the Danny Paquette murder in Hooksett N.H., it went unsolved for years until a PI who's name has been on this forum took a look at the case and found out the time of the game that the suspects used as an alibi was never checked out, just the fact there was game was checked into not the time frame. That was pretty much the case breaker. Yet for years we heard nothing new and then an arrest was made.

BCH,
The individual behind some of these disappearances and murders is responding to an overwhelming relationship in which he is involved. He is responding to their appearance, they resemble the youthful version of a woman he would otherwise abuse but for whatever reason this is not possible. Mother-son situation? No, I do not believe so. Husband-wife situation more likely. Extremely mixed emotions toward her. There is something unusual about her and their relationship that prevents him from abusing her? Possibly, more than likely.

pardon me, but you are so full of BS that you probably are recoiling from your own drama and imaginative wanderings. mind droppings, if you will. it is doubtful you have any credentials to bear on an investigation into the disappearance of a stranger.
leave it to the professionals...the official investigation...as you appear foolish and inept.

i trust that the woods are as you describe them to be....but more often than not, when a disappearance becomes a confirmed homicide, the authorities have been seeking evidence of a body, and they usually find it if foul play is involved.
immediate searches were performed and those would have been key in locating evidence or a body in a timely way. after months and then years passed, season in and season out, without uncovering a clue, then it would seem to rule out a local homicide.
i'd be banking on the authorities to follow through....all of this online finger-pointing and accusations have been "hateful" and damaging to innocents.

This is the single most relevant point that so many people just don't understand. They say, "But why hasn't the body been found?" When the fact is, it is such a massively huge area that it would be a near miracle if the body were to be found.

Like a poster said several pages back, just think about that Jet that disappeared years back, it took years to find a huge metal plane in an area similar to where Maura disappeared.

Think about that for a few moments.

With respect to no body being found -- I think I recall reading that there had been helicopter searches using that technology that will spot a warm body, within just a few days of MM's disappearance, and that not only nothing found but also no tracks in snow spotted that could relate to her. I believe the chopper search covered at least a 5-mile radius from the Saturn crash site.

This suggests to me that she didn't stagger off into the woods and succumb to hyperthermia. I believe she was picked up and that chances are good she was picked up by someone she knew.

for that matter, it's unclear that she drove her own car to NH from Amherst....and/or whether she was accompanied by a passenger....or even that she left Amherst....much less that she traveled parallel to or was planning to meet someone at a certain time/destination.
all unknown. 8 years later.

That is all well and good, except for the fact that by the time the aerial search was conducted the body would have no thermal signature if she had died from exposure.

As far as the tracks in the snow you refer to, there is no technology that exists that can spot tracks that old. Sorry nice theory but it doesn't fly.

Exactly, I couldn't understand the search at such a late date. Also a 5 mile radius wouldn't have been enough even with a heat signature because there's good evidence she was out of that radius when last seen easterly on rt112 by the contractor, and most likely ventured even further. It seemed more like a training mission than a real search at that late date.

(@).......

Especially IF it was hidden there OR not even in the area. That could attribute to the lack of a body or even evidence.
