jwb wrote: <quoted text> why ask him? it is your statement. I don't know anything about the body. McMillan likely knows all there is to know. Ask him. Or ask the Hampshire County DA's office on Pleasant St in Northampton. Maybe they can help you. The woman was a dead body in the parking lot behind the wheel of her SUV. I have no idea how she died. But I know cops love to take opportunities like this to lean on those of a lower socio-economic status. If I'd have been rich, McMillan would have more deferential. But this has nothing to do with Maura Murray. Does it?

They are real actual dead bodies. They are positively known homicide victims. Whoever responsibly advocates on their behalf probably gets a little more ear time. Those people are probably going to get what little attention the Cold Case Unit, which is tiny and only temporarily funded, can give them. The Cold Case Unit rightfully should concentrate on what can actually be accomplished in a world of limited resources. As it should be.

Tom wrote: <quoted text> If your daughter went missing and the police told you, or a mechanic told you that they found a rag that was put deep into the muffler your comment shouldn't be " I told her to do that to stop the car from smoking" it should be more like " why would anyone want to do that?" I think this is the strongest piece of evidence in the case so far. 1. A car can't travel that far with something jammed in its exhaust system. If you did have something in your exhaust system it wouldn't and you would feel the difference in the ride. You would pull over the car would be choking. 2. Theres a good chance then that the rag had to be placed in the car after the accident. 3. The car was found 10 minutes after Maura was seen alive. Which means if someone abducted her assuming she was fighting they would have had to shove a rag into the exhaust system with a very fit girl fighting back. People would have saw. 4. Even if they picked Maura up to give her a ride and she entered the car innocently its not like the abducter would say " hold on I'm going to place a rag in your tail pipe and shove it up there." There would be no reason to you have your victim already. Those four facts I'm pretty sure are very very plausable. Now what if Mauras siliva is on the rag, or what LE thinks is siliva is on the rag that would mean that could be the murder weapon and when it was found Mr. Maura says " I gave her the rag and I told her to put it in the exhaust to have the car stop smoking?" Not accusing him, but there is no motive for anyone to put the rag into the exhaust. Tom, great post. The rag as a murder weapon is a good theory. The rag may have had chloroform on it. I haven't heard that one proposed yet.

It would be embarrassing to say the least if citizen, journalist, PI, or ex cop did solve the case first.especially if evidence was obtained that the police never looked into.

I know... and when an ex-state cop turned PI from the Amherst MA area asks me (May 2011) if I killed Maura Murray, how do you think it feels? When no one will be a friendly neighbor or friendly to you at work, if you can even get a crummy, low-wage job, how do you think it makes you feel, that someone is working really hard to connect you to Maura's disappearance? Sometimes you keep it bottled up, sometimes you let it out.

Anyone else been asked by LE or a PI if they killed Maura? I can think of only two other people who may have been asked that question. Maybe I missed someone.

How many times can one ask how they are doing. I guess an empty question because we know that they are hurting. I often late at night when there's a breeze coming in from the north can actually hear your mournful baying at the moon. Heart rending.

So I wasn't too inclined to talk with him. You can trust no cop. You can trust no prosecutor. You can trust on former cop or former prosecutor. They lie for a living. They make trouble for you, the kind of troube that lasts forever, ruins your reputation. Your new neighbors look you up online and then shun you, even though they have no details and are leaping to conclusion. Employers won't hire you. Cops are garbage. Plain enough? where does the dead woman come into play? you lead a complicated life I guess. Most of us don't have that experience. There must be a reason he did this beagle.

Beagle, just want to say that I'm very sorry to hear these things have happened to you, and I can think of a few more you have not mentioned. I agree with you that many law enforcement people abuse their positions. Probably they are in the minority, but it sure doesn't feel like that when they wrongly exercise their powers.
