It is too late to go east, I wonder if Officer Smith thinks that everyday.

Why would he? Free adults are allowed to do stupid things every day. They drink too much, crash their cars, hide from authorities, run off into the night. Why would that be my fault or in this case Officer Smiths fault? You need to lay blame where it belongs. I have seen this done many times. I have lost sleep over many things in my EMS career, haven't lost a single seconds sleep to something like this. In this country, free adults are ALLOWED to make stupid decisions.

I think people are trying to wedge this puzzle piece in the wrong puzzle board. I could be wrong but thats my opinion.
Because she was working --
Maybe she felt that she had to leave to do something that was important to her at the time . I don't think that she meant to hurt anyone but It is possible , IMO. Maybe she fled because some-one ( a friend) used her vehicle and Maura thought that she that she would be charged with the hit and run .

I agree with that last post, if we don't even know where they searched how can we say anything about whether they should have or nor.
I thought LE admitted that they didn't search east that night, wasnt Fred crying about that for like 2 yrs? I thought that was established as fact.
I wish they would've just come out and said we didn't search east because we didn't think anyone would go that way, which would make sense and I think is the answer to this here.
Why would anyone head east After crashing there? U have 2 choices, east into the black of night in the woods, or west back towards town and all the houses. Anyone in their right mind would head east.
But they had reason to believe she wasn't in her right mind. She has just crashed and quite possibly sustained a head injury(crack in the windshield above drivers door) and she was likely intoxicated.
They should have sent one of the 3 cars they had searching the back roads east a few minute, would've take 6 minutes both ways. We arent talkin resources here, there was more than enough resources on scene that night and we aren't talking about calling out the national guard here
Why wouldn't they have called out Fish & Game? The BOL indicated they were aware it was a female & the scene indicated possible injury.

If she was working she would have an alibi, and not have to ditch the car. Maybe she would have to turn her friend in, but not run away. Too big of a conspiracy.

What are more simple reasons for her to want to leave school for a week to go to NH?

Calling out fish and game that night was completely unnecessary, that's the kind of thing that would b done if there were just unlimited resources available and LE could call out search parties for everyone who's left their car after sliding off the road.
That's just unreasonable.
People slide off the road all the time in the north country and leave their cars rather than waitin for LE which could b over an hour wait.
If it's a single car accident there is no legal requirement for someone to stay with the car.

That night the officers had no reason to believe that it would b worth wastin the time of fish an game for someone who got a ride after an accident.
2 days later and she still hasn't turned up, then yes def call out fish and game.
But if fish and game got called ou every time someone left a car in the winter in Nh the state would be broke by the end of January.

I agree. Im sure when they responded they prolly figured she caught a ride with someone. I dont think there was any immediate urgency to find Maura right away.

Her friend didn't want to get her "in trouble". What trouble?
She disapointed her father when she crashed his car. Was she running away from his anger?

About fred's phone records. Anyone else notice how many conference calls he made?
It's interesting that the last call was made around 6 on the 9th, then there were no calls at all until 9am the next morning, which was a conference call, which we can tell bc the second call was placed immediately agree the first, while the first call was still going and them they both end at the exact same time.
Then after 9 am no calls until later that afternoon.
Who makes 3 conference calls in one day? Did je really receive no calls or was his phone off on the note of the 9th? His phone should not have been off bc he had told maira to call him around 8, or so he says. So they can fill out accident forms?
As far as I know u don't fill out accident forms in mass, I never heard of that. A few days after the accident, generally about a week, you go to the police station and u pick up the accident report, which u would send to your insurance. Well these forms r filled out by police, not you.
This whole story doesn't make sense.
His phone records seem weird to my but I haven't been able to pin anything definite down uet, except for the fact that multiple conference calls were made.
Interestingly enough it would appear that one of these conference calls was made By Maura, or at least in her presence.
Look at the records, there is a call at 5:36 am, lasting almost 11min. This would been 5:47 it ended. But then at 5:49:16 a call was commenced lasting 280seconds. But another call was made at 5:49:27(11seconds later) lasting 274 seconds.
So what is going on here? Who would they have to commence a 3-way call with at almost 6 am?
Who were the other people Fred had to conference call with?
Something strange is going on here.
& as for Fred not being a suspect bc his records were released, that means absolutely nothing.
These records may have the Nh homicide unit on their label but they were released by UMass police due to a freedom of information request.
Since UMass police aren't conducting a murder investigation they r under no obligation to keep anything secret.
Renner found a very clever way of getting these records released, or so it would appear.

But either way, the ag'a office certainly did not voluntarily release these to try to show that Fred was innocent.

Yep, there are those out there who think when people make bad decisions that we will call out the National Guard, Search and Rescue teams, State Police, Fish and Game, K9 teams, Helicopters, and Boy scouts.

Isn't going to happen.

Maura was last seen approx. 500 FT. from the corner east of the scene.

IF She was not picked up at the scene by a passerby or companion or whomever She could have easily slipped past Atwood while He was backing in the bus or when in the house.

The area to the east should have been searched that night by a patrol officer.

At the point in time when investigators or le knew she was not accounted for they should have searched every direction.

Not a resource issue.

When you have a missing young girl... I think depts small or large whatever there resources would have searched long and hard.

And if anyone connected really thinks the search was inadequate maybe they oughtta think about a research.

Is it possible... yes. Likely... no. I strongly believe she left that location in a car. The orig reports on the search indicate dogs followed her scent and stopped along the road. It would be consistant with her leaving in a car.

I often wonder about people who make comments like this. Is this the type of cop you were, if you really were a cop? Is that why you think all professionals act that way? Because that is the way you use to act?

Those aren't conference calls. Fred didn't make any conference calls. Those calls you are referring to are routed calls. The first call at 5:36 AM that lasted almost 11 minutes was an outbound call "0" on cellphone tower (REPOLL) 240.
Shortly after there was an incoming call from tower position 254 which was than routed "2" back to cellphone tower 240.

If you look at the bill all the "conference calls" are actually routed calls "2" which usually mean the call hit REPOLL 254 but went back to 240.
