Keeping in mind that it would also take time once KM got to Maura, began to question and comfort Maura and found someone to cover her post, some time would go by for that too.
The 5 part series in Whitman Hanson paper says "contrary to popular belief, there was no later call made to Maura.
But I have wondered if one of the security people called her desk and asked what was going on, what was wrong. That might explain a call coming from within the bldg on a security phone.

She also is the one who denied a note being present in maura's dorm room when there was clearly one and she knew it (her son was present when they found the note). She was being deceptive about that, there is no question in my mind (because the note wasn't very flattering about her son).
If I were maura and at her age and all and were involved in something as big as a hit and run, I probably wouldn't know what to do and would probably turn to a parent for help. So i don;t think I would immediately have dealt with the car and drove it miles away the same night the hit and run took place.

I don't read too much into any statements made by BR's mom. She is a smart person and I'm sure they knew everyone who MM spoke to before she went away because she had access to her phone bills. I think everyone close to her had a good idea where she was going, but don't want to make it known to the public.

The only reason she would need a second cell phone is for the second life that is being assigned to her. Just because she was going through troubles and decided to leave school doesn't mean she had two cell phones or two lives.

It is defintely small. But a bigger point would be, if maura could afford her own cell phone, then she wouldn't even be on a plan with her boyfriend.
The biggest point of all is that maura was LIKELY not planning her trip to NH for months on end. therefore, much of what maura did in the months and weeks before she disappeared, she would have no reason to cover up.
And when police seized her computer, I am quite sure they found out plenty about maura that they have not yet disclosed.
If maura was involved with a secret lover or had plans to meet someone, even the NH police and amherst police would have already dealt with this other person by now.
I have a feeling what they found (and have chosen not to release to the public) speaks more about maura then it does some mystery other person.

According the FM and BR's mother. They didn't contact the VT rental that MM called inquiring for a place to stay. They waited 9 months for LE to get a search warrant to check who MM called. They didn't check the phone bill which they had access to and call.
If Billy's mother didn't even check when she went missing I have a hard time believing she was monitoring her calls when everything was okay.
