Here is the current info on security at the residence halls: http://www.umass.edu/umpd/reshallsecurity/
Well, thanks for the accurate link. I guess it's no use to wonder about it anymore. Most likely anyone who came to the door, used the card to get in and just as Maura had been "zoned out" during two students coming in and NOT checking id.......anyone who may have come in just kept going I would think.
It's too late for so many things.

Hi all,i believe Mr Guy said he thought the saturn went through the snowbank on the Westmans side of the road .Ice and snow can be any texture and lets suppose the driver of the saturn had snow come up onto the windshield over the hood and was blinded, was off the road and had airbags deploy in the space of a few seconds.A major panic for anyone. Mr Atwood, I believe told cititgirl or Mauras'family that JKM was the first person he saw arrive at the saturn. So where was sgt Smith.take care philip
It would be interesting to see Mr Atwoods statement on who he saw&when.Maybe Citigirl can clarify things such as how long was JKM there&when..

hi all, just a guess but maybe the saturn was buried until someone dug it out after the friday snowstorm.Anyone know if students were required to move cars so the lots could be plowed.Way back I assumed that the saturn would have been tucked away in the corner of the parking lot as it was in such 'poor running condition' About the stains in the car what freezes and explodes in a car.Pretty much any liquid.take care philip

When was the last time any serious crime was solved in the North Country of NH?

Also, I thought that KM had said she was told about Maur's crying an hour prior to getting over to where Maura was stationed.
Keeping in mind that it would also take time once KM got to Maura, began to question and comfort Maura and found someone to cover her post, some time would go by for that too.
The 5 part series in Whitman Hanson paper says "contrary to popular belief, there was no later call made to Maura.
But I have wondered if one of the security people called her desk and asked what was going on, what was wrong. That might explain a call coming from within the bldg on a security phone.

Just a few thoughts.
I agreee that billy's mom came across as someone that was very sincere, however, she clearly states that her son and maura had a very strong relationship and as we have found out that wasn't the case. I would think there is some deception there. Maura's own older sister noted that maura and billy were having probelms.3
She also is the one who denied a note being present in maura's dorm room when there was clearly one and she knew it (her son was present when they found the note). She was being deceptive about that, there is no question in my mind (because the note wasn't very flattering about her son).
If I were maura and at her age and all and were involved in something as big as a hit and run, I probably wouldn't know what to do and would probably turn to a parent for help. So i don;t think I would immediately have dealt with the car and drove it miles away the same night the hit and run took place.
I was only mentioning BR's mom because of the purchasing of AAA card for MM makes me think the car was unreliable and that's the reason she didn't drive it, not because of a hit and run.

I don't read too much into any statements made by BR's mom. She is a smart person and I'm sure they knew everyone who MM spoke to before she went away because she had access to her phone bills. I think everyone close to her had a good idea where she was going, but don't want to make it known to the public.

Lighthouse,
Sorry, but do you seriously believe that Maura, a young woman of 21, would be using the Rausch phone for anything but the most innocent kind of calls.
I´m 99% certain that Maura had another cellphone which she used for all her private calls.

2004 Cell phones weren't that small it would be annoying to walk around with two cell phones all of the time. I never read anywhere that she had two cellphones. Never read her friends mentioning two cell phones.

The only reason she would need a second cell phone is for the second life that is being assigned to her. Just because she was going through troubles and decided to leave school doesn't mean she had two cell phones or two lives.

My first cellphone was bought in 2001, it was a Motorola, and quite small.
I think you can see a pic of her exact phone online, but I don't have time to find the link now. I would have a second phone shut off myself, until ready to use.
But you're right in that we have no idea if Maura had more than one cellphone.
She could use her dorm room phone to make and receive calls, that would remain private. She could meet someone after class or some event, and thus might not need any other form of communication.

Why do you feel that you need to insult people? Does it make you feel powerful or more manly or is it just that you are looking to amp up your entertainment factor?

embarrasingly enough, I have the exact same cell phone that maura had down to the color and model and year and everything.(I'm not big on cellphones).

It is defintely small. But a bigger point would be, if maura could afford her own cell phone, then she wouldn't even be on a plan with her boyfriend.

The biggest point of all is that maura was LIKELY not planning her trip to NH for months on end. therefore, much of what maura did in the months and weeks before she disappeared, she would have no reason to cover up.

And when police seized her computer, I am quite sure they found out plenty about maura that they have not yet disclosed.

If maura was involved with a secret lover or had plans to meet someone, even the NH police and amherst police would have already dealt with this other person by now.

I have a feeling what they found (and have chosen not to release to the public) speaks more about maura then it does some mystery other person.

Bill,
You´re absolutely correct about that.
I´m convinced that Maura at 21 would make sure to have another
cell phone for all her private conversations, whether she was planning to run away or not, whether she had a "second" boyfriend or not.
Does anyone seriously believe that a 21-year-old college student would be content to have her most private conversations easily identified by her boyfriend´s mother, as apparently Mrs R. was paying the bills for Maura´s "official" cell phone.

I see things that I find funny as hell, and think I should point the humor out to others. So yes, not just entertainment but also educational. I don't consider it insulting, just putting a mirror up, speaking the truth, interpreting what they have said, asking them if they still stand behind the statement they made. Can they show me proof of the statement. No malice, just looking to see where the statement came from. We are not doing brain surgery here, just a group of people shooting the shit. Doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't have some minimal standards on what we allow to be posted as fact, 99% worth.

99% generally has facts built into it to get to that figure. 50/50 could go either way and is generally just a guess.

I guess we just approach things in a different way. I would be more apt to ask her to explain in a nicer way and then put my two cents in. I do hear ya with the 99% thing sounds like facts are involved and probably there are none.

ORKO- Mind if I ask why you would come from ILL to NH to Scope out Mauras crash site and her school? Seems odd to me and I just had to ask.

According the FM and BR's mother. They didn't contact the VT rental that MM called inquiring for a place to stay. They waited 9 months for LE to get a search warrant to check who MM called. They didn't check the phone bill which they had access to and call.

If Billy's mother didn't even check when she went missing I have a hard time believing she was monitoring her calls when everything was okay.

Sorry lighthouse- I am sure Sharon looked at the Bill but, didn't analyze it number by number when it came in and then just paid the Bill but on the flip side I would think that if maura was calling a secret Bopyfriend etc that she was either doing it by calling card or another phone because she has no idea if biily or sharon are looking closely at the bill.
