IMHO there was lots of shady ass shit going on back then and I believe it continues today. This is the first that I've heard Mason was involved though.
Unless there is proof shown I don't see how anyone can believe one word that is said on an internet forum as a true fact. You have no idea who is sitting at their computer and chatting away with you or what kind of a person they really are.

I always get scared when a lawyer on an Internet forum speaks in his official capacity as an officer of the court. Haha.
Amy, Doesn't that whole post just hit you funny? I just don't get it at all. Generally a lawyer knows to keep things to the vest. Maybe being a defense lawyers outlook? Interested in more of you view on it Amy

Yeah, that part made me laugh.
I'm friends with a lot of lawyers and none of them give legal advice on Internet forums. A lot of them blog etc and are required by their state bars to post disclaimers that their posts do not constitute legal advice or establish an attorney-client relationship. So his post is the opposite of what I am used to seeing from practicing lawyers.
To each his own I guess?
Thanks Amy- It just didn't pass the Bullshit test as Bill would say- ha ha ha hey bill you are rubbing off on me .

UPDATE 8/24:(RE: highlight above) If the Frederick Leatherman who lives in Kentucky is indeed the same Frederick Leatherman that help found the Innocence Project Northwest, and worked with Barry Scheck - another claim he makes - then why was he not able to influence the Innocence Project in Kentucky to take his wife's case??
He gives his address on websites as:
750 Fairview Dr
Paducah, KY 42001
...which is an empty lot owned by an insurance agency.
750 Fairview Dr in Paducah is not an empty lot. It is a multi-unit residence and 10 people are livnig there.

I am no expert but I do believe everything you have stated to be 100% accurate.
The only way that you as an individual can tie a persons identity to their IP is to find say a document that they filled out with their real name and the same IP. Like an online purchase where they listed their name and address in the send to fields. That would tied the IP to their name BUT and I can't stress this enough, ALMOST ALL OF THOSE ARE NOW ENCRYPTED. And that encryption used in most cases is far beyond what most would be capable of decrypting so even that information is safe. And providing you didn't need to hack a site to find that information, it is all legal as far as I know. The other part I cant stress enough is how time consuming and you really would have to be a motivated psychopath to spend the amount of time this would require.
There are tools that can intercept IP packets looking for your specific IP to grab all your information (encrypted parts would still be encrypted though) but I doubt they could be used on a someones home computer with any success (it likely would have to be on the server you use, which means the IP provider would have to use it), but again, I'm not expert in this. Maybe Advocator has more insight? He may know more about this than I.
There might also be ways for a virus to be sent to your specific known IP for it to send back anything you do on your computer to the creator. I would think most of those would be identified by any decent anti virus software unless of course the virus is smart enough to first disable the anti-virus software to its presence. Again, you would need a very technically gifted, highly motivated, psychopath to accomplish this.
Bill
There are ways to get info directly off of a computer, using only the IP. People usually have some personal info in their computer, emails, internet banking etc, which ties the computer to a person. By using certain software, which can easily be installed on any home computer, it is possibly to find a ceretain computer that is connected to the internet, get information off of it, and tie it to a person. I personally know someone who was into this bigtime.

Do you know if the person who IM'd you, actually knew your name and other information? I'm not saying they didn't, I'm asking. If they did, did they get it from your IM screen name?

Maybe i didn't answer this very well, let me try again.

The person had to already know my email in order to instant message me on the aol buddy program. I learned how to block ppl from seeing me online, and on aol, as soon as I figured out how that aol program worked. Needless to say, i was pretty suprised when this person started talking to me everytime I signed on. I felt uneasy.

The only person I still talk to to this day on the buddy program was in one of the houses where Fred went to talk about keeping an eye out for Maura. It was random and he sat through a good visit. He said Fred was kind.

I would say that masons fake address is a little different than bills full fake name being outed on the Internet lol. I like that, full fake name; funny.

Didn't mason post his address as an attempt to gain more credibility? Wasn't that the point? I'd someone posts their address to gain more credibility wouldn't it mean they're probably not credible if it turns out said address is fake?

Back in the day (maybe a couple years ago? I have no concept of time)....back when Dawn, Mason, WhiteWash all posted - this whole conversation was had re: Mason and whether he was, in fact, who he claimed to be.

As I recall, he was verified to be precisely who he claimed.

Why are we discussing Mason, again? Forgive me - but I don't see the point. And I'm not being snotty, either. I just don't follow the logic.

He was/is a professor, as well, at a law school. Regardless of his politics/case theorizing on this and other issues - he knows the law.

In regards to what he posted to Observer - I don't know that that was any more than a post intended to scare the original poster. Perhaps to make them realize that making claims about a potentially dead, definitely missing person, is a bad idea?

Have you personally been there to see it for yourself? I havenīt, but those people are registered to this address, empty lot or not. Google maps and such areīnīt always accurate with street numbers.
