Haha. If you think topix is the biggest waste of time in the world, try Twitter. The biggest draw is that you can befriend inanimate objects. I am currently being "followed" on Twitter by 16 dogs, a broken refrigerator, and a lampshade. I'm still not quite over the dissing by the Bronx Zoo Cobra not following me back, but I respect him for being selective.#badass
Well, SOME dogs can be smart. William Perry is a little beat up from his years with the Bears and Eagles (more animals) but not a totally broken refrigerator. And a lampshade can actually have some bright ideas. I think Twitter is simply not as human-centric as we Topix tornadoes wished.

(Phew, that was a struggle, but got through it without using hash tags.)

I don't think Urban Dictionary can help with this. But I at least found out that watermelon crawl is some kind of dance described in a county song. I should have joined AARP years ago.

Do you remember the story you told a few years ago about your vehicle almost getting hit on 112? What was it that almost hit you?

Here you go Jenky,
From James Renner's blog:
"The mother of Andrea Connolly, one of Maura's close friends from Whitman-Hanson, tells me detectives were very interested in the news that Maura spent New Years Eve at a house owned by Connolly's friend in Goshen, New Hampshire, a month before she disappeared. Nobody was living there the week Maura went missing, but they did call up to neighbors to have them check the house. But it was empty."
"Goshen is about an hour and a half drive from Haverhill."
Thanks orky, I've never seen that before. I guess we do know one of the other people at the parties names and that it was her hometown friend she went to NH to party. I remember early on people talking about a vacation house that the family called the nieghbors to have then check to see if she was there but I remember people saying it was in bethlehem. Do you think there were two different vacation houses or If this was the house they were talkin about?

Jenky,

Not sure on that one.

Someone on James Renner's blog had mentioned that maybe maura was headed to her aunt's house in bethlehem (when she went missing)

But that person was corrected and informed that maura's aunt didn't live in bethlehem, another maura relative owned a second house there.

None of that is fact per se, because the poster's were both annonymous.

I guess I was wrong about the 17 miles thing, apparently it was actually 20 miles.
Here is the quote from the boston globe 2/15/04:
"2/15/04 Boston Globe - Using tracking dogs, helicopters, and trained searchers, local and state police, as well as state fish and game officials, covered nearly 20 miles along Route 112, but found no trace of Murray's footprints in the snow. The tracking dogs lost her scent within 100 feet of the accident, leading investigators and her loved ones to believe she either hitched a ride and continued on her way, or was abducted"
The whole stretch of 112 was not searched. I believe you might be misunderstanding what is being said. There were 2 areas searched on 112. In these areas they searched from 112 into the woods.

Actually It was almost weird sometimes, there was some guy named bob who was a bartender in woodsville somewhere and he would serve "virtual drinks" in something people called "time out tent" or the TOT. That was kinda weird if you ask me.
I did meet and spend the day with Bobfather as well as several others. Bobfather did not live in NH and was not a bartender. Curious as to what led you to believe he was a bartender in Woodsville. Thank you.

I coulda sworn it was bobfather but I guess I'm remembering wrong the wrong person citi.

There was definitely a member who was a bartender though, and I really thought he was a bartender in woodsville or Haverhill or somewhere really close by, but maybe he was a bartender somewhere else.
He would often mention he was going to work that night and would often say at the end of his posts "tip your bartender.". He was also the guy who served the virtual drinks, ijrc.
You must remember the guy who was the bartender citi, he mentioned it fairly often.

Citi your talking about ground searches. Or ground searches they searched a two-mile radius from the crash site using either 60 or 100 state police and others doing a line search looking for
Any evidence connected to Maura. I believe they said they did this twice. They also searched up by 116 after the sbd's alleged sighting.

But they did cover the nature length of 112 by helicopter, an air search. The air search covered 20 miles of 112. This has to be from the crash site up into n Woodstock and back to 302, that is about 20miles.
they were lookin for a trail leading into the woods. They said they could see animal tracks and human tracks clearly, but they found no evidence a human went into the woods off the side of the road. They are fairly clear about that.

What do you 'she's in the woods' guys make of the fact that LE was unable to find any tracks leading into the woods anywhere ? They flew the length of 112 and found no tracks leading into the woods, how did she get into the woods without leaving a trail? According to the sbd, and it is mentioned in another article that there was actually 2 and a half feet of snow on the ground. Do you guys realize how difficult it is to walk trough that much snow? It is extremely difficult, particularly when your wearing tennis shoes and jeans. anybody ever seen the video of billy walking through the snow that was on wmur? Walking into the woods in this
Conditions is not an easy proposition by any stretch of the imagination.

This is a quote by lt.Todd Bogardus in the Caledonian record on 2/20/04:

"The results today were non-conclusive," Bogardus said. "We were unable to locate anything within a 2-mile square radius."
Between the air and ground searches, he said there weren't any conclusive clues to enable a continuation of the search.
"Tracks are prevalent out there, but none connected with Maura," he said. "So, now our ground search is suspended."

Apparently it wasn't only an air-scent tracking dog that was used too. Same article states that there were 3 k9 teams used and only 2 of them were air-scent dogs. Dont know If that makes a huge difference but I always read people saying only air scent dogs were used, but there was a regular ground scent dog used as well.

But I'm just wondering how you guys who think its likely she is in the woods explain the complete lack of any trail leading into the woods? When your walking through 2.5' of snow you leave a very noticeable trail, Very noticeable. There are many many quotes where LE says they searched for trails leading into the woods and found no evidence she entered the woods at any point, this is why they stopped the ground searches. They were confident that she didn't enter the woods.

One thing is pretty clear, if Maura gets found in the woods the NHSP is going to look pretty damn bad.

Obviously it is a possibiility, even if it's a slim one, but it's just not likely. Just like it isn't likely any young girl is ever going to enter the woods at night under those conditions wearing what she was wearing.

Hey orky- what do you make of this quote
By Fred where he flat out denies ever mentioning suicide to LE?

"Murray says he never told police his daughter was suicidal.
"I want to set the record straight," he said. "Scarinza is using (Howe's book) to reinforce his suicide theory. It's nothing like that."

Personally I think he's lying a little here, he flat out denies saying she was suicidal, he does in another article as well that I can't find right this second. The reason I think he's lying is because in another article he mentions the squaw walk thing. He says he mentioned an old movie where the old Indian woman walked away when she wasn't useful anymore, but he asks specifically says that he didn't mean suicide by this comment, well what else could he mean? She was only 21, she still had a long time to live, what did he mean than that Maura became a mountain man or something?

Clearly he said something to the cops that may be interpreted as suicide but I don't believe for a
Second that he actually thinks she killed herself. He was the only person in the family that said anything about suicide, everyone else thought she ran off at first and then when she didn't turn up now thinks foul play. I always found that odd.
Fred now says that he's "100% positive foul play was involved"
Her sister, who was reported to basically be her best friend clearly thinks she was a victim of play.

Either way, Fred flat out denies ever mentioning suicide to LE. What do you make of that orky? Just wondering what your opinion is on the fact that Fred denies ever saying suicide and the rest of the family clearly thinks foul play

Jenky,
IMO,

It is just a strategy.

The suicide angle wasn't getting police to devote the kind of time and resources into the case that a possible serial killer on the loose angle would.

It was again IMO, a strategy by Fred to force police into working the case in a more urgent method.

the strategy hasn't worked. It has IMO created mis-trust between police and the family of maura.

And the police have never treated this case like a murder had occured and a serial killer was on the loose. The FBI would've been all over this case, the news media would be giving tips on the news about locking your doors at night and never being alone past dark etc ...

All of this is IMO.

I remember Bobfather...he was/is a very kindly person who did/does tend bar in Ohio?..Indiana..? In his first Posts on the family MM forum, he described himself as resembling one of the Stooges. He was very attentive as far as to trying to help the Murray family.

(We emailed for awhile...about food n family.)
