You've got me thinking. I'm going to be diplomatic here, so as not to offend. Friends at UMASS knew and encouraged Maura to hook up with someone else. That person down the hall or downstairs, the one who left a voicemail to Maura the day before. The one whose voice mail was reportedly under investigation with police. I wonder. Was she the one who saw Maura leave? Was she the one who moved on? Was she the one that Maura went to clinicals with? Did they even go to a clinical? Looking4AMoose, or another poster in nursing said there were no clinicals. Could they have been up to something? Parties? If no clinicals existed, then where did they stay when they got snowed in and couldn't drive home? Maura had to borrow outerwear of some sort from this person.

And then there's that FAVORITE movie that Maura so adored,~ where the main charactors up and leave their stuck in a rut lives behind.
It was a comedy, I don't remember the name.

OOps, got distracted. In several news articles, it did say that the email to professors were sent at about 4. That part stayed consistant in the earliest days of Maura missing. Granted, that may have changed, and no one took it to press....donno

Here's some quotes from early on, it appears you guys were right; they were talkin about the sbd the whole time, they were just lying about what he said until he came out in the media and stated that he thought she did not appear intoxicated.
Feb 15th Boston globe:
"A witness told local police Murray appeared to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash, and Rausch said that there was an open bottle of alcohol in the car. However, he said he'd never known Murray to drink and dri
ve, and guessed she might have fled out of fear she'd broken the law."

Celadonian record mid feb(unsure of exact date):
"According to police, Murray was not injured in the accident. However, she was reportedly impaired due to alcohol consumption when she was seen by her car after her accident."

Feb 20th B. Globe:
"About 7 that evening, she lost control on a sharp bend on Route 112 in Woodsville. Unhurt, but appearing to be intoxicated, she refused help from a motorist who offered assistance and was gone when police reached her car about 10 minutes later, officials said."

AP late feb(unsure of exact date):
"A witness, who told police Murray appeared intoxicated but uninjured, called authorities against Murray's wishes."

Feb 27th B. Globe...This is the first time I can find the sbd being mentioned by name:
"The next time she was seen was in this tiny valley town, by Butch Atwood, a 58-year-old local school bus driver who passed her car as it sat in the snowbank. He said he stopped and asked if she needed help. She declined. He drove the 100 yards to his house and called the police. When they arrived, she was gone."

Feb 27th Caledonian Record:
"Atwood said Murray didn't appear to be intoxicated, despite police having said a witness indicated she had appeared to be impaired due to alcohol."

Knowing what we know now it's clear they were either making a witness up or lying about what the witness said. I agree they were talking about sbd. Either way they were lying to the public about someone saying she appeared intoxicated, and that's really f'd up if you think about it. The only possible reason I can see for them to lie about something like that is to make her look bad. It's just like really guys? You lie to the public about an innocent girl just to make her look bad??

If nothing sinister was going on (with respect to that person who left a voice mail on Maura's cellphone).........the voicemail that police investigated at one time....
Who else dropped out/moved/transfered schools around the same time?
What I meant to say in the second post was that some of these girls were lucky enough to even know another side of Maura. They just wanted her to be happy. But in a case of cc fraud, if true, and you have a contact doing this crime with you -
or just in case Maura could speak against any one of them as with if one were to borrow her car, hit PV, it could get tense.
It would be interesting to know that campus police still look at these types of things. I wonder how much is lost if there's no communication between all MA and NH forces.

I think much of the family is Catholic, but whether Maura applied herself, I don't recall.

And when Maura said "my sister," maybe a dorm mate could be called a sister.

Heck, I remember a post once stated the upsetting call could have been someone threating to Maura. In which case maybe she bonked them, jk

I guess the question for the night is did police continue to keep tabs on this person who moved on?
Because that was stated in the first few months, or so I thought.
Maybe a PI could find them, their social networks and so on, to find .......Maura?

Wasn't it Maura's first year at umass & the nursing program?
AFAIK she had just transferred that fall.

If it was her first year then I don't believe she had any clinicals yet.
Nursing students don't have clinicals their first semester. They might have them second semester but I don't believe they actually have clinicals until their second year. I'm not positive about that but I do know they don't have clinicals their first semester.

Well, she was there studying something else according to "Scoops", below:

She is an accomplished athlete, a very intelligent young woman who was attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst on a scholarship while working two part-time jobs to help pay her expenses. She had scored 1420 on her SAT (740 in Math) and had been majoring in Chemical Engineering at West Point when she transferred to UMass in late January 2002. Maura continued her pursuit of Chemical Engineering Degree through her first two semesters at UMass until she decided she would rather be in the medical field.

I see all these Catholic questions.. Idk if she was, but im a very devot Catholic & even though we arent supposed to have tattoos, they are still nice to me & for the people that might say "well thats down south", I live in NY 5-6 months out of every year & the church is the same, just bigger & a little more hardcore, not much diff at all.. Its rougher here as a Catholic cus im in the "Bible Belt" & theres only one of my religon within 45mins.. Only 1 in my town..

That being said.. I know of a bunch of cases where harm has been done to others that are devot because of "out of wedlock" "married men/women" etc; that Catholics have commited...

My step mother is Italian from Brooklyn and was raised as a very devout Catholic. She moved to the heart of the bible belt, northern Ga. about forty years ago and became a hard shell Baptist. I respect Peoples religion, but I must say there are zealots in every camp. My step Mom on the other hand, is probably the most sincere, caring and just plain decent human beings on the planet.

Maura was doing her junior year and nursing juniors do have clinicals. She didn´t start from the beginning when she entered nursing school, but was said to have studied very hard to catch up and be able to not lose an entire school year.

What voicemail was left on Sunday? I never heard of it before. From where do you get that the student who saw Maura leave was the same person as the one with whom she went to clinicals? IIRC the student in the parking lot was referred to as HE. Maura going to clinicals in Norwood have been questioned several times, but nursing juniors do have clinicals according to the UMass School of Nursing website, and Norwood is listed as one of the places.
