It's my understanding that he was never charged in the case you mention of his former student. What if it turns out that he really did have nothing to do with Amy's murder?

Is that how police locate a missing person?
They gather up info on all the pings going on at a particular random tower and then one by one try to connect them to their missing subject.
Common sense would say that if you are investigating a missing person you are INTERESTED IN THE PERSON THAT IS MISSING'S phone and when it pings and when it doesn't ping.
But I guess I am missing something.
