I dont understand about the phone "drama" going on here.. The orignal smartphones came out in the mid 90s, with the Nokia 9000 that had the Q-keyboard, GPS, texting, etc;

The BlackBerry early 2003, the BB email pager 98/99.. Apple emessage 1993.. IBM had phones with GPS for the very wealthy as early as 1973! Sky Pagers, considered the first texting, where you called the number & gave a message to the service & the message displayed on your beeper 89/90..

The phone model she had, it being from Sprint (so no cheap TracFone), being early 04, had EVERYTHING needed to find locations.. BUT I do take i to account the bad receptions yall speak of up yonder.. But, if she was met by a killer, it would take a very smart one to take the battery out & know all this information back then.. Would to have been a very smart informed person..

I know they worked in CT back then as when I was up there in 1998, mine worked just fine..

Also about many people saying you have to dial your number to get to vmail.. I mean no offense about saying this.. You dont have to! Im sure as a smart college student, Maura knew this.. You simply hold 1 down & it auto calls it for you.. Some carriers may make you hit the # or * key with somethin like this #81 but that was over a decade ago.. Ive had "Visual Vmail" since 2005 with Verizon so I can actually see who left a message & choose to hear it or delete it..

No way anyone can convince me that down in SW VA, we had better technology that areas such as Umass & most of New England.. If any of this sounded rude, I didnt mean it that way, I spent almost 30mins typing up a huge thing about features & smartphones & my iPad refreshed causing me to lose it all & just retyped this.. Sorry..

Isn't it possible that it's simply a poorly worded affadavit?
For example: Couldn't it be that, on Maura's logs, they had an INCOMING call number xxx.xxx.xxxx. The cross-referenced all the available databases, but it was not available (to get the name of the owner/registered user). Then, they were able to get the information from the phone compay as to the pings - of where the phone number pinged...this 'mystery' caller. However, they were still waiting on the name/address information because it was drafted so early on in the case, that they hadn't obtained name/info before requested ping information?
Essentially, I'm suggesting that some friend of Maura's called her from near Londonderry.(Thus, an 'outgoing call placed to Murray.) While awaiting confirmation on the name/address, they shot out this affadavit quickly to get the ping information...while awaiting name and address.
Just a thought.
If LE was aware of an incoming call # from phone logs, It should be relatively easy to trace it back to the owner unless it was a burner phone. I don't think LE would have had to go the afidafit/ Search warrent route in order to find out who belonged to that phone number

Could the red light (aka cigarett)have been Maua charging her phone?

"What Is The Flashing Light On My SPH-A620 And How Do I Change It?

The flashing light on the phone is a Service LED, which has the following functions:

1.Lights red while charging.
2.Green when charging is complete.
3.Flashes to indicate an incoming call or message.
4.Lights momentarily when you power up the phone and flashes red when the phone is in need of a charge. "

Maura phone had voice Command:

"PCS Voice CommandSM lets you dial phone numbers by speaking someone’s name or the digits in their phone"

http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-SPH-...

"Description

This CDMA phone features color display, external display, camera, GPS location, 1xRTT high-speed data, Picture ID, Ringer ID, J2ME support, WAP browser, voice dialing, voice recording and polyphonic ringtones."

If you mve your mouse over the area that says technology on above link and then move the mose over positioning it will give a description of the gps tech that the phone has. looks pretty advanced.

findmaura,
While there is now someone who can be identified as responsible for just about every unsolved murder in the U.S. and Canada, the possibility exists that this guy may have stolen someone's identity. An article appeared in the Kitsap Sun dated Aug. 15, 2008 involving a situation of double homicide and suicide. I. Keyes is an unusual name, a name one remembers. Therefore, when hearing about the I. Keyes who'd been picked up by authorities in Alaska....I searched to find where I'd heard the name I. Keyes before. Found it in the Kitsap Sun, article dated Aug. 15, 2008, "Montana Murder Victimes Identified as Former North Kitsap Residents." Although an age difference exists between the "two" I. Keyes, it is not that great. Did some research regarding the names involved in the western Montana incident and found a strong connection to the State of Washington. The couple worked on construction, she a welder. Wondering if whoever the fellow was in Alaska had stolen the id of the western Montana I. Keyes.

Orko Kringer,
If I recall, before the end of the week in which she had disappeared, it was announced that Maura's disappearance was a suicide or runaway? This determination seemed unusually premature. She disappeared Monday....and I think the announcement regarding runaway, suicide was made Wed Feb 11?????

Are you out of your f**king mind?

You expect us to believe that a father would just blurt out "a squaw walk" comment because he was upset? Maybe in his concern he blurted out that Maura was Bulimic, or a thief. Unfreaking believable.

The term blather is more precisely used in describing the things you write. Not what ANY father would say, to police, in a moment of concern or even despair.

findmaura,
...and I believe this individual is very organized and stable. He is NOT the kind of fellow (yes, male) who cause females to flee. They are drawn toward him. He has above average intelligence and advanced knowledge regarding trace evidence/how not to leave evidence at abduction scene, crime scene. This is evidenced by the fact, seasoned investigators are stymied regarding many of these missing female cases in NH and VT. He is abducting at one site and taking his victims to another, usually wooded areas. He disarms them w/charm and most likely easily engages them in conversation for a lengthy period of their trip to some wooded area. Except for Pamela Webb. For some reason, possibly some characteristic about her...or something he did or said, she almost immediately knew something was wrong. Chances are great all of the others did not.

Bill,
Your antagonism regarding her family is repulsively showing. Pull in your claws, take a deep breath and maybe one more cup of caffeine might be helpful. "Squaw walk" for some people, those familiar with hiking, mountains, ethnic history, woodland lore, often see deeper meaning regarding "squaw walk." Most families who have lost a family often become upset because authorities often immediately determine they're dealing with a runaway or suicide, sometimes both. It was interesting at least in my opinion, that anything negative regarding Maura and her father was made easily available while just about everything else....was withheld from the public. Yes. Interesting.

Shack,
I agree with you. Also, from the beginning this case has felt warped. Just about everything about it has been strange. The common thread is that she was one more female plucked from along the highway, leaving no trace of why. The older lady found dead in the woods in Wheelock VT...I think she put the pieces together. At the Labor Day event, she crossed paths w/the VT-NH mystery man. I believe he became (somehow) aware that she could id him as responsible for these deaths and he began to stalk her (possibly before or after Labor Day). She was active, usually involved with others except when at home. Few opportunities existed where she was alone. Given her age, and that she lived alone, he probably felt confident that he could pluck her from her home...and he did. Abduction there in her house, and then a ride to the forest just like the many others.

The part that is actually the funniest in this little note from Shack is why she didn't just claim that the first thing out of Fred's mouth wasn't "a dirtbag got her". I have nothing for or against the family but I am also not obliged to filter any of my thoughts on them or in particular their nitwit, non-compensated, pseudo-representatives.

I might suggest you take aspirin for any headaches and Midol for any cramps, and then explain how you know what "most" families do in that situation. I assume that you have authored a study on what most of them do, can point to references? Or are you just talking out of your ass?

And it always strikes me as funny that people can't seem to understand the difference when police say "that there is no evidence of an abduction" and then having people interpret it as, "authorities often immediately determine they're dealing with a runaway or suicide, sometimes both." And on the other side of that you have others accusing locals by name, they see nothing wrong with that. Amazing.

Again, I wish I had more time because while most of what I have read is both harmless, and useless, I see certain elements creeping in that might have to be squashed - again. I will catch as catch can but might not be able to squash all of the stupidity. I have seen some other very capable people here with high intelligence and a low tolerance for stupid, so there is still hope that this won't devolve into what it was before.

From what I recall, the "local dirtbag" talk didn´t start until some time in April? After psychic Csrla Baron said MM was killed by a "cleancut man". up until then it was first squaw walk, then soon after runaway, making pleas through media to the effect whatever it is, we can fix it.

Bill,
You have to be playing ostrich if you continue to deny the large number of female abductions along highways in VT & NH...especially NH. Someone abducted Maura....and it is my belief that you have a good idea who this guy is. He also gets rid of the occasional male.....you know... the one he sees as a sort of nuisance who is oft times drunk and staggering along the highway. Wonder how long your little charade will continue....not just you. It appears that there are others who have a fairly good idea who this guy is. Kind of awkward, I would imagine. Yes. Incredibly so.

Winans and Reed...believe each of these women had crossed paths with him. Possibly it was more of a competitive thing re Winans. To travel after her that far would signify something out of the ordinary had flooded his brain. Reed? In my opinion, he may have mistakenly believed his intelligence was under attack. She may have, without knowing, played a role in a situation whereby he had felt humiliated.... in front of others. He was certainly in that area at that time. No doubt about that. He also was often in the Craftsbury Common area. A lot of these women were very competent females, many of them the outdoors, hiking, nature-loving individuals. Strong, intelligent, competent women. He resents this type of female. It is my belief he is living with a female who has similar characteristics and has been in competition w/her for a very long time.
