Let me tell a little story about the one time in my life I ever ran out of gas. I was drivin up i91to NH from CT during the fall of 02, iirc. I used to always take i89s to w Lebanon and I'd always fill up there because gas in NH used to be much cheaper than everywhere else. I was driving with an old friend from CT and we were talking and I just wasn't paying attention at all an like an idiot ran out of gas right at the exit for 89s off 91. If I had the tiniest amount of gas more I could've coasted down the hill to west leb but that wasn't to be. Luckily I had a gas can in my car so we got out and walked down to w leb and bought a gallon of gas(sketchiest walk ever walking over the bridge across the CT river with its 5" wide shoulder but that's another story). So we walked about 1-2 mile round trip and got the gas and as we were walkin back up the exit ramp we noticed there was a car that had stopped next to mine. We both assumed it was a cop who had stopped, my buddy really didn't want to talk to the cop for a reason I'm still not entirely sure of and I didn't particularly feel like dealing with a cop either because they often make simple things take really long times so we decided to just sit on the grass off the exit ramp and chill for a little bit until he left. I figured he was gonna put one of those bright orange stickers on my window and move on. After about a half hour of sitting there I was like 'WTH are we doing here? The whole reason we're waitin was because we thought the cop was gonna take forever so now we're gonna sit here for an hour?'. It looked obvious that he wasn't gonna leave and there being no real reason not to go talk to him I was like screw this, I'm going to go talk to the guy and be on our way. I thought it highly odd a cop would sit there for so long for no reason but whatever. So I started to walk up the ramp and as I could see over the hill I noticed it wasn't a cop at all, but rather some guy sitting there in a dark jeep Cherokee, which for some reason struck me as extremely odd. I just got a really strange feeling from the situation. For some reason I decided to put the gas can down and just walk up to the car so it would appear that I still needed help. So I start walking up the exit ramp towards the cars and as I got about 30-50' away from the guy I also came under the streetlight and the guy could see me, I could just barely see him. Well I come under the streetlight and he could see that I was a man and he took off like a bat out of hell. He didn't just drive away, he took off like in a drag race or something, like he REALLY didn't want me to see his face or his tag #. . If he was a friendly motorist stopping to help, then why didn't he want to see if I needed any help? I had no gas can in my hand so how did he know I didn't need a ride or any help? Why didn't he want to help me anymore after seein I was a guy? Why did he sit there sooo long only to leave as soon as I got close to my car? It was over 30min the guy was sitting there. why did he not only leave why did he leave at such a high rate of speed? He seemed very concerned about me seeing his face or even tag #. I often wonder what would've happened if I was a young woman walkin back to my car, for some reason I don't think he would've left. I truly believe that I came across the CRVK that night on 91. That is one of the reasons I believe so strongly that there is a good chance Maura came across this guy on her trip up north.. I swear on everything I love that this story is completely true. Am I 100% this was the CRVK? No, maybe he was just a weirdo that only helps girls, maybe he thought I was some weirdo who was setting him up by pretending car trouble. But honestly, IMO, it's the only thing that truly make sense. . I just thank god that it was me and not one of the girls I knew that had this experience. This is one of the reasons my girl has a can of mace on her at all times and a tazer in her purse..

So I would think by your logic when a drunk driver kills someone, you then hate cars or is it the alcohol, I sometimes get confused as to what inanimate objects we are supposed to hate. Sounds very rational to me. Glad we sorted this out. Bill Bill, i understand and appreciate your argument, but fewer people are killed by a madman with a knife than one with an assault weapon. the majority of gun owners may be responsible, but the destruction and chaos caused by a single gunman intent on mass murder can no longer be ignored. do we permanently lock down our schools because of potential shooters with assault weapons? columbine and newtown are urging us to move in that direction. our theaters? grocery stores? churches? do we scan for weapons on public transportation? does the public lose their freedom to be reasonably safe in entering and exiting public places so that others may exercise their right to carry and use firearms? do we live in a society where justice is delivered at the street level...the shooter is immediately shot by citizens carrying weapons? there's a good argument for moving in that direction, too. guns are used for violence; they kill animals and people. i'm not sure i cannot justify anyone's need to carry. or kill...even in self-defense. how are the majority of law-abiding citizens best served for the greatest good?

OKAY wrote: <quoted text> here is your comment to which i replied. it is odd in the context of this thread, nor does it make any sense to me in the context of back-to--back shootings this week in OR and CT just prior to Christmas. how can you be "clueless"? The use of the word "clueless" was in comment of the judging of the post I made prior to that one, which was judged with the unlit lightbulb ikon meaning "clueless". I meant I am clueless as to how somebody even if mentally ill could just walk into a school and shoot children. I fail to understand the mindset.

I get what u r saying and while I'm not sure what it will take to fix the school shooting problem, I certainly respect your passion. i appreciate your respect for my passion. we need a fix...the problem isn't going away. a river or ocean of tears are not the solution to gun violence. i originally came to the topix forum to discuss the new hampshire shooting between a citizen, a cop, and a passerby. again, guns and violence. so, i guess it strikes a chord for me.

I agree 100%( believe that ?) now 4 1/2 posters lol. with that said the school seems like they followed procedures to a "T". The last report shows that the gunman forced enty ( broken glass). The rooms that Locked down are pretty much off limits to the gunman and that helps save lives and it did in this case. The school also had locked doors with a buzzer and video camera. Some schools have a SRO or senior resource officer, The officer has an office in the school and is there to bond and protect. I think this is a far better option than arming teachers with guns. I hope that many schools take this time to re- examine their procedures and policies. Policies tend to get laxed after a week or two and I hope that this sticks with people to follow them consistanly.

This guy crossed the line. If he had gone to prison, the "killers" would have killed him because he crossed the line. Important to find out why.

From media reports it seems he shared a lot of personality traits with the Virginia tech shooter. I could possibly understand (not accept, but on some level understand) if he went after some people - former classmates, teachers or whatever individuals he felt had treated him badly. But these kids didnīt go to school with him. Many of them werenīt even born when he went to school.

Trendy to make it political Emmett . Nobody ever said take away guns but I will say that tighter control must be put in place ( not the issue here as they were moms guns). If you feel that things shouldn't be discussed now then how many more lives will it take? By the way Emmet- I am not Liberal and I agree on the Merry Christmas issue. I don't think it is a liberal stance to want to stop the violence. Merry Christmas Emmett

I heard on one station that he had an altercation there a week or so ago but not sure if that is confirmed. The system today incorporates all learning levels to be under the same roof ( no child left behind act). My opinion is that can be good and bad for reasons I won't bore you with as they are just my views on it.

On the topic of MM. A while ago we discussed the name of Mauraīs sister, if her name was Kathleen or Katherline. Now I found a site listing Kathleen and Katherline as two different relatives of Maura. Kathleen is listed as being 35 years old, Katherline as 41. Iīm aware these sites arenīt lways accurate, but still...?

But im tired of dope smoking hippies taking away what is my right as an american.. I cant have a Manger scene in my yard anymore cus of them.. & everytime some nut job steals their dads gun, its blame the guns.. Yall are lucky to live somewhere that has not much violence.. Here, you point at someone riding down the road you get shot at & home invasions are part of our culture.. You honestly think I like that?? I cant change it & I feel sorry for the 20 lil Angels that were murdered by some sicko at Christmas time, just waiting for Christmas vacation & presents that will stay unopened for years.. People say we need to find our way.. Did we ever have our way or was it an illusion? I dont make the laws but im forced to follow them.. Last Christmas I got a fine from where I work for simply telling a darn yankee dope smokin hippie liberal "Merry Christmas".. He couldnt say nothing to my face like I actually did anything wrong, he told my boss "he felt uncomfortable being told Merry Christmas by a stranger" & some other crap, so I lost 5grand over the darn stupid Yank..
