Lost and not found wrote: Topix automatically listed me as St. Jay. Don't know why, but I'm definitely a local, know the area very well and have spent a lot of time in that area. It's an easy area to get lost in for sure. But....this was February, there was snow on the ground and no tracks found leaving the road into the woods. Dogs lost her scent 100 yards from the accident site. In other words, she vanished from the area, and probably via a vehicle of someone she knew..<quoted text> As I have stated in previous posts, the dog was given a new glove as a sample and it is believed Maura may not even have ever worn it. Second problem its a couple days later and numerous people and vehicles have been all over the area. Third problem, the dog was an air scent dog and not a ground scent dog. Air scent can move with thermal current and is not as reliable for tracking, an air scent dog is better when it comes to finding a cadaver.

Snowy; I think you know as well as I that there are those who will say anything to get attention, push buttons or start an internet brawl. Then there are those with a sick twisted agenda, the dangerous ones. Some people just need to get a life.

For the record, it does not make the accusations acceptable or excusable by any means. But conflicting information whether he actually read the forums or did he even use the internet? Small town gossip travels far and fast, and surely it got back to SBD. When rumors start they usually start small and then snowball to the point of being absurd, but there's always those who are willing to crucify just to see blood.

Being on a 22 square mile island, I know all about how rumors spread. It is crazy how fast gossip travels. Reputations can be ruined in minutes. So sad. Poor guy was in the right place at the wrong time.

Yep, that's cool. And I'll ask whatever questions I want to get to the truth.

Sara wrote: <quoted text> So... in other words, you don't know. You could have just said that. Well I know. Butch knew some if not all of what was being said about him. He said to a reporter that if he knew what was going to happen he never would have stopped that night. He also said all he tried to do was help. The man was dragged thru the mud and hung up to dry and even after death some are still trying to blame him for something to do with her disappearance that night when all he did was offer his help and call the police. I hope the ones that wrongly accused him for years so vehemently have trouble sleeping at night. I know I would if I was them but thank heavens I'm not them.

Sorry, didnīt see the above was already answered. Regarding CW, there was a news article stating he was reinterviewed last fall and had some additional info which made his sighting all the more credible. I got the impression from reading the article LE now thinks he really saw Maura.

NHwoodshome wrote: <quoted text> I too searched for the Lear jet that was eventually found in Dorchester on I believe Smarts MT. by a surveyor. I gave up on Black hill in Wentwoth, close but not close enough. I studied wind speed and direction reports and any info possible. I came to the conclusion as thick as the woods are you would almost have to step on it. I found a plane in Henniker NH years ago and it was just a fluke I caught a glimmer off a piece of metal. People have to go to Bridgewater to really get a handle on how dense it is and there is wetlands, quarries and tight thick rolling hills as well as boulder's and earth depressions that can easily hide a person. When one considers how many large animals die on the woods yearly and how rare it is too see remains even for hardcore hikers. It puts a realty factor on the likely hood of finding human remains. I thinks ones best hope is too look for clothing or her backpack if she is indeed in the woods. The second big problem is WHERE to begin, if we believe CW, than Maura could be anywhere in a vast stretch of wilderness. I think you have as good a chance of hitting the lottery as finding Maura in those woods. Someone who has gotten off of his/her ass and done something. It is amazing how easy it is to spot those people. As opposed to those that spout about how little those that actually do things, do. One in particular who use to go on and on about how little was being done, by the police, etc. How they didn't do enough. It never ceases to amaze me when others blame the safety nets when people go out of their way to get themselves into trouble. I still wonder if we would even be discussing this case if Maura had just stayed at the car. In memory of the School Bus Driver (SBD). The man who stood up and attempted to help someone who refused help. And then for his reward, he was accused over and over by one person in particular in a disgusting display on a public forum. That person just popped in for a second a while ago, as was her habit. Usually to just kick the hornets nest. To cause whatever distraction she could. Don't attempt to help anyone who might need assistance in the areas that these people consider "their area". For your bother, you could easily become fodder for late night bashing by some people whose greatest contribution to mankind. Is to sit, warm and cozy in a room somewhere remote from where the danger might lie. And to type at a computer terminal and sling arrows at those people who are out in the world trying to make a difference. And of things they know nothing about, either by training, or vocation. Bill

Bill Very true, armchair quarterbacks are abundant. Its easier to criticize and make assumptions then to actually be proactive instead of reactive. Yes people generally do create their own fate be it good or bad. Emotions, lack of preparation, and in some cases shear stupidity. It amazes me how many people get themselves in life threatening situations climbing mount Washington, let alone the others that get lost, hurt or killed in other areas of NH. Having lived in Alaska, most of these people wouldn't have made 2 days in the wilderness, they'd have no clue what survival takes. People should enjoy the outdoors not perish or risk the life of search and rescue. True accidents do happen and medical emergencies as well, but most are avoidable.

I wouldn't be surprised, Maura being an athlete I always felt she could have easily made the distance and who knows how much further. Sadly the interview is a few years late, was it the cold case unit that did the interview?
