Could the "red-truck-napper" have been using a portable scanner to stay ahead of the police and get to situations first and look for prey? When you all mention what you have above it seems more like she was managing the messes and meant to come back. Her directions were so specific. Perhaps she was invited to a cabin or party? Her mystery hookup picked her up? Also has anyone thought of Scientologists kidnapping her and she is now one of their slaves. Has anyone thought she was a poster on a thread?

I consider the portable scanner a real possibility....I also consider it might be a member of a prominent local family.

When we lived in Fla we heard some weird shit on the scanner!! Lots of drug action etc and we saw it going on right next door to us . Get one. My mom and I used to watch the deals go down right after.

What I am saying is that scanners used to be very popular. My mo m and I used to see all sorts of crap go down and she was a night owl like me. I miss and love you Mom. No regrets.

Her directions were so specific that she must have found a rental or her significant other did and they were driving up, she got some liquor, brought her books and some running gear(cold weather gear?) To get some work done and a few runs in. Since he was paying for the cabin the least she could do is spring for the booze. She wrecks, again, he picks her up and they want to wait until the next day thinking it's no big deal but? Why not come back?

I reread butch's statements and the other witness statements and I think her bahavior, at least to me, seems like plan B was in play and butch made her hurry up and leave the car fast. He said there were other cars passing by his house that would have had to have passed the Saturn. Taking the booze and backpack makes me think it was plan B. The rag in the tailpipe is just WTF? A message perhaps? If she had no plan B, I think she would have abandoned the car sooner because butch said she was cold and shivering. She would have hitched a ride sooner or went to a house.

So the tandem driver would be hard if there was no cell service. How would she contact him? Unless he was following her. The police say when they eventually got to butch's house he was outside in his bus. Odd. Suspicious. If it was plan b the tandem driver was following. If not she hitched a ride. Or butch ate her.

One more thing. The car was locked. Why lock it if you're not coming back and if you're hitching a ride how do you know you'll make it back unless you're staying close or your friend is picking you up.

findmaura wrote: I had asked before, but no one answered:Does the inersection of 112&116 have a sign with towns&distances listed? Yes, actually, it does. The junction of 116 and 112 is roughly 9 miles east of where the Saturn was found. Traveling on 112 and approaching this junction, shortly before the junction there is a sign on the right side of 112 that indicates "Junction 116" to let you know it's coming up. A short distance further on, there is a sign on the right side of 112 that indicates that Benton is the next right-hand turn (via 116), and that N Woodstock and another town (Lincoln? Latham? could not clearly read it via Google Maps) both lie straight ahead on 112. Distance to these locations is given in miles. Yet another short distance, and there is a sign just with arrows indicating that 116 goes to the right, and 116 and 112 go straight (since 116 and 112 are joined for a short distance heading east after the junction. At the actual junction of 112 and 116, there is a large sign on the left of 112 but facing 116 so that it is best seen when traveling on 116 and coming up to that intersection from that direction. This sign has arrows pointing east and west indicating 112 goes both ways. There is then an arrow pointing left (west) to Woodsville with the distance given. There is an arrow pointing right (east)for Latham (Lincoln? can't read it) and giving the distance. Lastly, an arrow pointing right (east) for N Woodstock with the distance given. The Google Map dates for these images are in 2008 and 2009, don't know if these signs were there in 2004 but it seems likely.

saturday morning. a fresh breeze blows in. time to restart the engines of casual sleuthing, researching and chit chattery. so far, so good. the usual suspects have held back on Firday-nite-drunk-typeeee. but, the long weekend is young. it's foot-a-balla-time-a and the tops will pop. we haven't done the jigger campground thingy in awhile, but i was reminded by the kahlua jiggering in the back-a-packa. hmmm....clue. sleuth. i wonder. interesting. maybe. what if. chit chattery. birds cheep cheeping. seeds flying. bike pedaling. still coming up with....nothing. i would like to correct some spelling errors; stickler for that. seems like k*a*h*l*u*a comes more easily than c*a*r*i*n*g. some people just add a lot of "e"s. there's my 2 cents from my 6th sense. beware The Boogeyman, The Ruthless Jackasses, and The Least Careing (an extra "e" for good measure). Topix space is free. what if they charged?
