It is convenient that most of the family do not even recognize all the negatives in Maura's life with the reasoning that "it doesn't matter" They have hindered the examination of her disappearance by their own desire to keep those things out of the press and the investigation. The sad fact is that the majority of violent crime is not random and for women, 75% is committed by someone they know. There are fair odds that someone close to Maura is responsible, but they refuse to discuss it.
i repeat...after the simplified question is posed...to where did MM disappear within an approx 10 min span following her one-car accident?
one then follows with...whoa!!! why the elaborate network and refusal to address the reality of her relationships and actions prior to her disappearance?
which is further followed by...
i guess i'll stay to watch the mystery surrounding the mystery.
in walked James Renner to fact-check, back-check and verify...to the best of his ability.

Is the goal to solve MM's disappearance, or is the goal to have the disappearance solved as long as it fits the parameters of what people in the know have set forth?

Just FYI, the reason I am focusing on info on Tim Carpenter is because Renner seems to now be relying on him as an authority on the Murray family. This statement in particular bothers me: "A message to Kathleen: Tim told me some scary things. I would like to hear your side before I write about them. Please contact me." I doubt very much Kathleen will contact him, so we will only have her EX-HUSBAND's word to go on with regard to what happened between them, and gosh golly, something tells me it isn't going to paint Kathleen in a good light. Just want to make sure that all facts are, as they say, in evidence, since Renner obviously has no intention of providing them all, only the ones that fit the tale he wants to tell.

Again, I am not for or against either side, just on the side of facts.

Lesbian is just a statement of fact, The bullying is also a matter of record.

I'm not afraid of her ghost.

Now was she the person typing Maura's email to her professors?

I think so .

I can see why people think that what happened on Amherst is te key to figuring out what happened in this case, but in reality it most likely doesn't.

Just think about this, the FBI conducted the mass end of the case at the beginning, the freekin FBI. Do you guys really think that they didn't know everything we know now & then some way back then? That makes no sense at all. They obviously had all the info about her CC fraud, why she got kicked out of WP, etc., they knew all of that & I'm sure they knew a lot more then we do right now.

I just find it completely unbelievable that if she was killed by a secret bf bc she was pregnant, or by someone who's CC she used to order a pizza(yea that makes A LOT of sense to kill someone over 50 bucks), or even if she ran away because she was involved in the vasi hit & run, that the FBI wouldn't have been able to figure that out. I obviously know the FBI aren't magical investigators that can solve any case, just like any investigator they can miss things, but logically speaking if she had been killed for any of those reasons, by someone she knew, it wouldn't have been THAT hard to figure out.
This is why the vast majority of murders get solved, because the victim knows &/or has a connection to the perp. It's that small percentage of murders that are true stranger on stranger crimes that are extremely difficult, sometimes even impossible to solve.
This is why the crv serial killer was never caught, he was killing complete strangers that had no connection to him. In the EXACT same area where she drove through & her car was found btw.

Maybe it's stupid of me, but I give the FBI a little more credit than that, I just find it hard to believe that someone she was connected to killed her, if that was the case I think this would've been solved a long time ago. Same thing if she ran away, I would think that the FBI would've been able to figure that out.

Sadly at this point, 9 years later, it looks like she was the victim of a complete stranger, which is why this case has been so extremely difficult to solve & she seemingly vanished into thin air. After nearly 20 minutes of waiting she caught a ride & she caught a ride from the wrong person.

Anyone who thinks this is impossible just has their head in the sand, plain and simple. The very area where she went missing has a long history of women being murdered under very similar circumstances as she went missing, a woman out on the road alone, stranger on stranger crimes.

Some sick fuck could've been waiting YEARS for an opportunity like that, a young girl who crashed her car at night & was all alone in the middle of nowhere.
Whatever happened in Amherst is what made her choose to drive up to nh yes, but it's very unlikely it had anything to do with her actual disappearance. The reason we're even having this discussion is likely because she was the victim of a stranger, someone who had absolutely no connection to her. That's likely what not only makes this case so damn hard to solve, but also so baffling.

IMO its extremely unlikely that her family knows where she is.
I can see why people think that but if you really look at their actions it does not look like they know anything.
Why would they go on all these tv shows & start these websites meant to bring publicity if they were hiding her? That makes no sense. The nh LE community would've been more than happy to just let this case slip through the cracks, and it likely would've like so many before it if it wasn't for the family's actions(bringing publicity & publicly criticizing the search for their relative).
If it wasn't for the family bringing all the publicity this case would've been forgotten about long ago, like so many other similar unsolved murders that have taken place over the years in this area.
Why Would they want publicity if they were hiding her??? That makes zero sense.

It looks to me like they think she's dead.
Nobody wants to remember the bad stuff about their dead loved one, nobody wants to talk about the few mistakes they made in their life, they want to remember all the good things, the accomplishments she made in her life.
I think a lot of people are confusing that with the family tryin to hide her. Of course they're not gonna want bad things said about their sister/daughter/cousin, everybody's an angel once they're dead.

This case overall has gotten a lot of media time, a lot more than many other cases. This is almost entirely due to the family's inccesant desire for publicity. The fact they don't want renner to write a book is obviously more due to the fact that they don't want her to be remembered in a bad light rather than them hiding her. If his conclusion to the book is him saying that he believes she ran away & the family knows this & is trying to hide her, I think he's gonna end up looking pretty stupid. Although it sounds to me like I don't think he's going to actually put forth one theory in the book. I think that he's going to profile the major theories, give evidence of each & kind of let the readers decide what they believe happened, that seems like the only option at this point.

I'm just saying don't confuse a family's desire to have their relatives memory to be good things rather than bad with a family trying to hide her for no good reason.

Nobody has EVER put forth any kind of motive for this family to need to put her in hiding. The notion is actually completely ridiculous & illogical. The closest thing is the vasi hit which is a case of a POSSIBLE hit & run, that MIGHT have happened, that police never even investigated & never even determined if he was even hit by a car. Certainly not a reason for a family to put someone in hiding & put up a 9 year charade where they seek as much publicity as they can get to try to find their relative, who they're actually hiding somewhere. LOL, jus THINK about it, it makes zero sense. I think people are in denial over the realities of this case & in their mind it's easier to think this insane theory than to admit that she was probably abducted & killed in their back yard, or vacation spot.

Women have been being killed for YEARS in this same area under very similar circumstances, it's not a very big stretch of the imagination to think that it happened again & her body just has never been found. Makes a hell of a lot more sense than her family hiding her, or her just gettin lost in the woods & never found, or her
Committing suicide & never being found.
It's EXTREMELY rare for a person who's lost in the woods in NH to NEVER be found, even more rare for a suicide victim to never be found, it's actually much more common for a woman to be murdered & the case to be unsolved than either of those two options, that's just an undisputed fact.

So here Renner is, down to the wire, completing his interviews, ready to write his book (already started, I believe), and he writes this: "And there's the fact that someone used his phone to make 3 calls around 5 in the morning" which is itself a link back to his original blog entry about the same issue. He's at this point, and somehow still doesn't know, even though all us NON journalist/author/sleuther types know and have known for a very long time that those calls were made by Maura to Billy Rausch.
Unbelievable. Freaking amateur.
consider, for a moment, that a male poster among us has previously attempted to recruit several female posters here to contact MM's friends on his behalf. i don't recall if he was initially rebuffed when he attempted to contact her friends, or anticipated being rebuffed because he was a male stranger. probably the former. the women, of course, refused to participate.

not a journalist, not writing a book, this citizen ******* boldly and shamelessly hoped to cross a boundary and contact / interview / extract information about the MM mystery.

James Renner, by comparison, is not a stealth sleuther.

It is an interesting angle about them hiding her. Never thought of it that way. I had always felt that she left intentionally, is safe and sound elsewhere and that someone in the family knows WHY she left(meaning they know what drove her away from the family), not that they knew where she was and was hiding her. So if anyone still believes she is alive and well and left intentionally, what happened in Amherst and Hanson prior to her disappearance is very relevant.

Huh? WTH are you talking about & why are you such a bitch? What's up with that? What the heck has happened to you In your life that's made you such a jaded person?

When did I EVER say I KNOW what happened? Never, I'm just as clueless as everybody else.
I'm strictly talking about the LIKELIHOOD of what transpired & how the most LIKELY thing that happened here is she was murdered b a stranger, which has happened many times in the exact area where she went missing. Anybody who doesn't consider this a very real, if not likely possibility just has their head in the sand, plain & simple.

How often is it that at 21yr old girl has her family put her into hiding?? How many times has that EVER happened?? Can anyone show just one case where that happened? I've never heard of it.
How many people lost in the woods of NH have NEVER been found, or never been found within 10 years? Iirc scarinza said that in his 20+ career in LE he's known of 1 or 2 people who's remains were never located within a 10 year window.
How many times has a person who committed suicide NEVER been found? Does this EVER happen? Who the hell ever heard of that? Since when do
People committing suicide hide their bodies? Can anyone point out ONE case where a victim of suicide wasn't found for YEARS?? I'm sure it's happened before somewhere in this country but again it's extremely, extremely rare.

But there's MANY cases of unsolved, brutal murders in the north country, in the very area where she went missing actually. Obviously not an every day thing but it's happened many times over the years. Many of these unsolved cases are VERY similar to Maura's case, a young woman out alone on the road for one reason or another.

I never claimed I know what happened & I never will, I keep a truly open mind about this case & consider any & all possibilities. It's just that going strictly by the likelihood of something occurring, strictly by the numbers, the most likely thing that happened here is obviously that she caught a ride from a stranger & it turned out to be the wrong person to take a ride from.
She was most likely the victim of an opportunistic predator. Some sicko who, like I said, might drive around for YEARS waiting for that opportunity. Very possibly the same guy who brutally murdered Louise Chaput in Pinkham notch in 2001, or maybe the same guy who abducted Pamela Webb from the Maine tpke & left her remains in Franconia, right up the road from where Maura went missing.
It's just ridiculous for people to write off something that has happened many many times before & instead decode to choose a theory that has almost NEVER happened, if it's ever even happened at all.
Come on snowy, take your head out of the sand, and maybe try not being a super epic bitch while you're at it. Jeez, when the hell did I ever say I know what happened anyways??

Snowy who are you talking abou when you say a male poster among us has tried to recruit maura's friends into giving info about her?

Are you talking about orky?

I agree with you about renner, in reality he's doing his job. He's a journalist & he's certainly not trying to do anything sneaky or sketchy, he's been up front about his real name & intentions from the beginning & certainly isn't trying to hide anything. Calling him a stalker is not right at all, he's a journalist trying to do his job, which is to obtain as much info about a given subject that he can.

Personally I think it was a great idea for him to choose this case to write a book about, it's a true mystery that obviously still has much to be uncovered.
I also think he's done a great job confirming many things that were whispered about & called rumors way back when & now he's confirmed them to be fact. He's done a good job uncovering things & while I can see where the family is coming from not wanting to talk to him, I also can't believe that they wouldn't want their side of the story told
In his book. It's just weird that they want as much publicity as possible, yet they DON'T want a book written? How does that make any sense?
