IF you do have the LE case log there are some cast of characters with whom I'd like their locations. Has Fred every come out and ever proved that he was working that day?

I believe it was RF's (ex)wife that brought that information forward months after the fact based on that discussion with RF, who really can't remember what day it was he saw the person, I would say it was not very credible.
However, with that bit of information, and add in the problems he was having with his wife, and his sick sense of humor that led him to making jokes about how good a cook MM was, yeah I am sure he was a POI for a while and it prompted the desire by LE to search his house and property. It was not however anywhere near enough suspicion to obtain a warrant for the search, which is probably the most telling part of the whole thing.
The new owner of the house was told by LE that RF always refused the search and that's why they wanted to check it out.

Also RC Stevens was not QUICKLY involved in the case, it was a couple months later at least.
Fred Murray did not hire any PI's...Period.
