Because she should, of course, be so pleased that Green, being a superior being, believes she has "something to contribute" - that's enough to swoon over. And I'm sure the politeness in his last post makes up for the nastiness of the first two, doesn't it? Funny, isn't it? Despite his previous post to me that "If you my credentials you moron, email me and I'll be happy to provide them," he did not provide them. I had hoped I was wrong. Anyway, I'm dropping it. People can decide for themselves and believe what they want.

John Green wrote: Just so the smart and substantive people here have the actual text that will be selectively copied and pasted by the ugly VTs ... please see the below copy of my latest post on Renner's blog. AND WHO IS JOHN GREEN? For various reasons, including some posts on Topix about me, my own foolish responses to them and - most of all - because of a serious event external to that environment- three issues have arisen. First, I have become much more concerned about my privacy - which for the most part is secure in various ways - and even remotely concerned about my safety. I doubt that external event means anything, but how do you ignore it? Second, I realize that some people - particularly those who have been in contact with me and shared in some cases sensitive things - may have seen both my own foolishly glib statements on Topix as well as some false statements about me. My own stupid posts only added credibility of those false statements. I am dismayed with myself for that. As such, please see the important offer below. Third, I want to apologize to Renner and all of you. By tangling at first glibly and then more angrily with a small subset of troublemakers on Topix, I served their purpose in focusing on me as a way of opposing Renner and distracting from the remarkable body of content on this site. I would think I'd have been too savvy for that. Given that James gave me this opportunity, he and you all both should expect me to have been so. I am sorry about it and I feel foolish. I hope you all will stay on board with Renner and give me a chance to get my focus back on Maura and keep it there. OFFER: In that context, I say this, more precisely defining an offer I have causally made elsewhere: Any verifiable person with a verifiable record of making meaningful contributions to discourse here is welcome to an adapted version of my CV, with references with telephone numbers, that I am preparing specifically for this purpose. I am who I say I am, but could understand if anyone has doubts given my imprudence in my posts on Topix. I am tempted to offer an excuse here, but the bottom line is (if you will forgive the vernacular) I f____ up. Specifically if you want that credentials page and: (1) IF I have already both talked to you on the telephone and received an email from you... THEN send me an email, and I will send you the credentials and references page, adapted from my CV. No questions asked, and I will not feel insulted. (2) IF you have emailed me already but we have not talked .... THEN send me email me again and we can talk the phone briefly (or longer even, if you want, about the case) whereupon I will send it to you. (3) IF you have not contacted me before by either email or telephone, but you post here often... THEN I need to get an email from you, touch base with you over the phone and get some way from you to confirm your identity. In essence just to establish a person-to-person connection. Then I will send it to you. Finally, toward posters on Topix. There is so much good content there. Many folks who post there can't be differentiated from the core folks who post great content here. Three or four Topix posters, on the other hand, are up to no good and are willfully destructive and disruptive toward public discourse about Maura. A third group - frankly including me recently - are a mix, thinking deeply and sincerely about the case and posting, but sometimes also being VT-ish. I have been one of them lately. That is about a weakness of my character. You all and Renner deserve better from me. And I hope you will let me make it right. With remorse, John LOL.......Too late now Silly Man.

Well, I must say, I am a sucker for a straight forward apology and I daily whine about people not taking responsibility for their actions. I am a proven hot head and find myself regretting my actions quite often. I know there will be those that won't agree with me, but I must say,Well played Mr. Green. I do hope you are sincere in your statement as it was eloquent, honest, and somewhat restored my faith in mankind's ability to admit weakness of character and personal responsibility. I personally have a permanent waiver for all of my character flaws as they are ever present and ever evident!

John Green wrote: <quoted text> This is awesome. First of all, it is not modernist literature that you are referring to. It post-moderism in general, which emphasizes expression over formalistic structures. Secondly, whatever genre you were shooting for ANYONE can make that claim about anything. Like maybe you could make it now about the incorrect sentence your wrote that I got Karen Mayotte's name wrong. Too. So my point is that you missed the point. But trudge on, pointlessly, as it were. I have an affection for you Hannah, like the kind adults have toward precocious children. You are charming somehow. John I´m very happy you like me so much. I admit I have a crush on you, John. I look forward to that naked video. I also look forward to you telling us why you claimed I emailed you, I never did. Btw, I wrote my MA thesis on postmodernism, but I´m not going to post naked video to youtube to prove it.

First, this wasn't an apology to people on Topix, but only to people posting on Renner's blog. His preface before his copy and paste from the blog clearly shows this: John Green wrote: Just so the smart and substantive people here have the actual text that will be selectively copied and pasted by the ugly VTs ... please see the below copy of my latest post on Renner's blog. As Pippy said, Green's posts are always passive-aggressive - attack and praise, attack and praise, and this post is just another example of it. He also abdicates responsibility for his nastiness towards Topix members by minimizing his arrogant, insulting behavior as "foolish," and his personal attacks as being "foolishly glib." He continues to insult members here, calling them "ugly" vitriol trolls and troublemakers among many other insults. Instead of grouping himself with the "vitriol trolls," which he clearly is, he chooses to elevate himself to another superior position: "A third group - frankly including me recently - are a mix, thinking deeply and sincerely about the case and posting, but sometimes also being VT-ish." Ish? This is not an apology to anybody here, it is just another very long, wordy insult.

it's a good marketing strategy to reach out to posters, have a phone conversation, and perhaps grab a little more MM info on a 1:1 basis. or it's a full moon again and the expectation is for crazy happening or the late nite / early morn typee spree was, regretably, influenced by some liquid - jet fuel?

amy researches wrote: <quoted text> It's odd to me that Green added the attorney part to his bio but left off where he practiced. No real lawyer should have any problem with providing his credentials so that readers may verify them, in my opinion. Unlike this anonymous format, Green is posting on a blog that is supposed to be part of a journalistic endeavor. While Green is not giving legal advice, it would still be unethical of Renner to allow his readers to be misled this way. The reason I researched Green's background is because of the ethical issue Amy describes. Attorneys are held to a higher ethical standard than other mere mortals. Anybody that has been involved in the legal profession knows this, and they all know that attorneys are governed by the Model Rules of Professional Conduct. Paralegals/legal assistants are also bound by their own Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility. Both attorneys and paralegals are generally required to complete coursework in professional ethics and responsibility in order to qualify for a degree. Violation of these rules can lead to discipline and disbarment. When a person holds themselves out as an attorney, they have an ethical duty to not mislead others as to their status or experience. Rule 8.4 of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct states, in pertinent part: "It is professional misconduct for a lawyer to: ... (c) engage in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation; ..." If Green has a license to practice law and he is exaggerating his experience in order to influence or intimidate others, then he is guilty of misrepresentation and could feasibly be disciplined for his actions. As Amy said: "No real lawyer should have any problem with providing his credentials so that readers may verify them ...". Because he hasn't, it is reasonable that people would research his background to determine the veracity of his statements. I checked through the regular ways you would check an attorney's background - through the American Bar Association website and the relevant state bar association sites, including the sections showing attorney discipline records. When I found nothing, I started a general Google search which yielded plenty of information, none of which led to a confirmation that he had a legal background and pointed instead to a very different career path. The information I posted about Green did not include any information that a person here could use to locate him. I purposely did not include the names of his employers or any other personally identifiable information in my post. John Green wrote: Second, I realize that some people - particularly those who have been in contact with me and shared in some cases sensitive things ... This is why misrepresentation is a problem - people will trust a "retired attorney with years and years of legal experience" more than the average Joe and reveal "sensitive things" based on that trust. It is wrong, it is unethical and if Green is indeed misrepresenting his legal experience, it needs to be investigated and revealed in order to protect others. The really simple thing would be for him to post his legal background somewhere, but apparently that is beyond him, and you have to wonder why.

Green's statement, however guarded and pushing back at the very crowd he intruded upon, is at least an admission, at some level. a friend, whom boasted of accomplishments that were never his own, never flinched when he admitted to the charade that was obvious to others. and, again, to his credit, Green admits to his regret. the greatest harm is that he may have jeopardized the responsibility and opportunity he was given.
