Here is the exact quote from Sharon Rausch, Billy's mom. I use her quotes because she kept a journal during the initial days of the search for Maura and I would put a lot of weight into her timeline and account.(but I do take into consideration that she also has stated things like Maura and billy were having no problems and were looking forward to marriage) which I interpret as spin. Here is her quote on fred and billy gaining access to Maura's car: Sharon Rausch ”The car was locked and they unlocked it and started it with a spare key that was hidden somewhere on the car.(The spare key had been placed there sometime in mid Jan after Maura had to call AAA when she locked the keys in her car - this was before the mechanical problems)."

Mid January was "before the mechanical problems"? I had always assumed that MM's car troubles were older than 3 weeks. The impression was given that this was a long standing issue with Muara and that the car was in such bad shape that she had to get rides to and from classes and it was made out to be a huge inconvenience. Mid January was likely still on winter break, so it could not have been too many classes or too much of an inconvenience yet. And why would Sharon feel the need to toss that remark in there at all? What purpose does that serve in that sentence? SO she locked her keys in the car and they had to call AAA....Why qualify that with "it was before the mechanical problems"? Just does not sound right to me.

I was just saying I do trust what she has to say because she kept notes (journal) when everything was first going on. But it is a quote from a forum, so I am not sure of the full context. She may have been replying to someone's question who had asked about Maura's car problems as well

The statement is that MM locked her keys in her car about 3 weeks prior to her disappearance and that locking her keys in her car predates the mechanical problems that brought Fred to Amherst on the 7th of February to purchase a new car. That is not at all how the mechanical problems have been portrayed. Something about that sounds fishy to me.

You mean you don't log in with different accounts and judge your own posts as "brilliant", "agree" and "helpful" like some others do? Clearly that is the only way some posters get those judgements, and we all know who they are....

I believe this is taken directly from Sharon rausch's journal. On Fred being first notified: "2/10/04 3:20 p.m -Fred receives a voice message on his home phone about his car being found abandoned near Woodsville NH on the evening of February 9th. Fred’s answering machine notes the time of day as 3:20 PM EST. Fred is at work on a contracted job in another state and does not get the message until later. At approximately 5:00 or 5:30 PM Fred Murray receives a call from his daughter Kathleen. The Haverhill Police have reached her brother, Freddie Murray’s residence (Freddie resides with his mother Laurie Murray, younger brother and Maura when she is not at school.) The police reported to Freddie that they found an abandoned car owned by Frederick Murray. Freddie told them that was his sister’s car and they had to search for her. The policeman that talked to Freddie said that if she was missing, he would have to contact their local police department. When Freddie called the local police department he was told that he would have to call the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Police Department, Maura’s current residence.. Fred Murray, the father called Haverhill Police Department and begged them to start looking for Maura."

this is a quote from Sharon rausch, I believe from the old forum that is no longer accessible Sharon Rausch Topic --- mysterious bottle found at car. "I may be wrong, because at the time I was not especially interested in a soda bottle - as Helena mentioned, I am pretty certain that it was a cherry mountain dew bottle.....but I am fairly certain that i was told by billy that the police asked him about a plastic soda bottle they found INSIDE of that car -- to support my recall is that Billy and Fred were asked about a stick of licorice in the bottle. fyi: whenever possible, Maura used red licorice as a straw---i cannot imagine that the licorice would have stayed in the bottle if the bottle had been discarded in any manner outside of the car....and i cannot imagine the police questioning about the licorice IF it had been outside of the bottle...."

Sharon Rausch, two different internet posts concerning the ability of fred and billy to start Maura's car after the wreck. "The car was locked and they unlocked it and started it with a spare key that was hidden somewhere on the car.(The spare key had been placed there sometime in mid Jan after Maura had to call AAA when she locked the keys in her car - this was before the mechanical problems) Fred and Billy said the car was "driveable." "I was told the keys were "gone" - so we have assumed that Maura had taken them. Because it had only been a few weeks since Maura had locked herself out of the car and had called AAA, she (perhaps with advice from Fred since he knew where the spare was located) had placed a spare key in one of those magnetic key holders in some hidden location on the outside of the car. Fred and Billy used this key and were able to determine that the car started right up, and therefore was driveable."

More Sharon from various sources including her journal. SHARON RAUSCH “Before her disappearance on Monday, February 9, 2004, Maura was looking forward to receiving her engagement ring in the summer of 2004, graduating from Nursing School in May 2005, and getting married in the summer or fall of 2005. She had already arranged for a summer job beginning in June 2004 in a hospital in Oklahoma to be near her boyfriend who is a lieutenant in the United States Army.” “Maura and my, son Billy, had plans to marry in Sept of 2005 and to honeymoon in her favorite of all places: The White Mountains of NH. She told me that at some point she just wanted to "have lots of little Billies and grow old with Bill." Before, the little Billies, she planned on a career in the medical field. She was in UMass BA nursing program when she went missing, but she planned on pursuing additional advanced degrees after her marriage.” Sharon Rausch: "We have been told by the police that Maura received or made a phone call on her cell phone at 1:00 AM on Friday, February 6th while she was on duty at her security job on the first floor of her dorm (The police and subsequently the media refer to this call as the “Thursday night” call that upset Maura). This was the Friday before Maura disappeared. It was reported to us that this call upset Maura to the point that she was crying hysterically and had to be assisted to her dorm room by her supervisor......... Kathleen always insisted that she never talked to Maura at that time. The NH police emphatically told Kathleen they knew better and told the media that the family was withholding information. In fact, when Maura’s cell phone bill arrived, it showed the last call during the time in question to be Thursday, February 5th at approximately 10:00 PM for 20 minutes to Kathleen. Kathleen concurred that she and Maura had talked at this time. But she insists that Maura was not crying, upset or speaking of any problem. I can't imagine how scared and upset Kathleen must have been sitting there being questioned by the police, her sister has vanished in a very remote area...I sat with Kathleen and discussed this call many months later...I watched her still, then trying to remember anything she said that may have upset Maura...whatever Maura was upset about (regardless of what she told the supervisor) I don't believe it was that call at 10:00 p.m. I can't find the article that mentions the time of the call, either, but can verify from Maura's cell phone records that Kathleen did not call her cell after the earlier call. What was always curious to me was why it took police so long to verify the call and so little to verify the Maura/Red Cross call. I know that police were given all of the information about Maura's cell phone within the first couple of days.”

i can understand topix being a jumping off place for random throwbacks to topics beaten and stomped to death, sort of, but when i see JRenner returning to the obvious, i am disappointed he apparently hasn't investigated earlier and more vigorously into the statement he posted today: **The more details are revealed, the more baffling the case becomes, police acknowledge. Yesterday, Thrasher said that Maura had fastidiously packed all her belongings into boxes before she left school, even removing the art from her dorm room walls. Meanwhile, one UMass friend has seemingly withheld information from police, saying she didn't want to get Maura "in trouble."** right behind him is his secretary, pausing to affirm the same question.** we know all the questions, but not the answers. somehow, i trust the status of the search for MM will remain exactly as it has been, book or no book.
