Details? Who does details anymore?
Yes this is sarcasm.

One of the reasons Renner has stated for DW to be in Canada is this statement:
"In the states, casinos also make people fill out tax forms if you win more than $10,000 in a game. Canada doesn't."
It turns out that this isn't true.
Commenter "Allie" posted this on the DW blog early this morning:
"Hi there.. Actually in Canada if you do any transaction that exceeds $10,000 in cash, you are required to file paperwork and show Government Identification.
It is called Fintrac, and is run by the Government. Signs are posted in all major Casinos.
source: I am a Former Surveillance employee in a Canadian Casino."
So I checked, and Allie is right, it is the law. Renner was wrong. From the Fintrac page:
"If you are a casino, effective September 28, 2009, you have to send a casino disbursement report to FINTRAC in the following situations:
You make a disbursement in an amount of $10,000 or more, in the course of a single transaction.
You make two or more disbursements of less than $10,000, that total $10,000 or more under the 24-hour rule. In this case, you have to make a casino disbursement report if your employee or senior officer knows the disbursements were received within 24 consecutive hours of each other by or on behalf of the same individual or entity."
People wonder why so many doubt Renner - this is just simple stuff that he should have verified. This is one of the principles of journalism which Renner seems utterly clueless about. From The Pew Research Journalism Project:
"Principles of Journalism ... Journalism’s first obligation is to the truth ... Democracy depends on citizens having reliable, accurate facts put in a meaningful context ... This 'journalistic truth' is a process that begins with the professional discipline of assembling and verifying facts."
Not to mention, doesn't anybody find it absurd that Renner is basing this entire Canada theory on that Geocities letter? The letter which I and others have determined was probably a hoax?
This whole thing is just bizarre to me.

You forgot to explain away your mistaken belief that Renner kept the MMC at arm's length.

Or are you psychologically too fragile to admit you were wrong and abusively insistant?

Thanks Maruchan, I haven't seen the pic yet but I can only imagine.. I don't understand why JR had to fly up here to meet Sammy. Why not just meet in Canada? Hmmmm...
Renner's group of investigators...? Yes, and I'm a race car driver..I was just leaving a job this morning in the work truck and there was a squirrel running down the road next to me...I floored the old beast and left him in the dust, so, in actuality, not only am I a race car driver, but I am one with a perfect record... okay, I stretched things a little here. I'm actually a race truck driver...But the point is the same.. ; )

I really wish Topix had an edit feature.

So the above post is wrong. Two separate things, filling out income tax forms and casinos reporting winnings. Renner was right, and I apologize.

I could have let it go and hoped nobody would notice, but, as I said, when I get something wrong, I fess up.

Let the gleeful attacks begin.

I'm visiting some friends who attend university here in southern New York this weekend. Last night I met several students who live in the New England area. Hadley, Mass and southwestern New Hampshire, specifically. We got into a discussion about the social relationships between citizens of MA, VT and NH. They asked how I have geographical knowledge of their home states. I explained to them my interest in Maura's disappearance. I think the conversations I had last night helped me to understand certain dynamics of the North Country that, having never been there myself, I wouldn't have otherwise. I know a lot of people who post here are from those areas. I was glad to get some insight into the thinking that those parts of the country produce. I think it has benefitted my ability to interpret some of the posts here on some level.
Here's hoping James Renner finds what he's looking for in Canada.
Geeze Tyler you have the same interpersonal skills as JG and Sammy...I like to think of it as the completely idiotic, unworldly, dumbass approach! Yes let us help you with your study of the geographically challenged; As your wonderful post insinuates, we are all backwoods hicks. None of us has ever actually ventured into the big world that you come from. We don't take any offense at your insinuations that because were from the "north country" we are different. Goodness gracious we are all clannish and related one way or the other up here. We're like the British aristocracy, inbred and fated to marrying our cousins. We all drink mountain dew, smoke corncob pipes and have out houses. We're really like a long episode of the Jerry Springer show. It's wonderful that you were able to get some info from your college friends, over wine cheese and crackers about us...even more impressive that you would share that you now have a basic understanding of how the native savages live, and humbly ask us to give you more..! Did you go to BC with Sammy?! Should have come up here and attended that ratty little state school we have in NH.Dartmouth. Bunch of redneck hicks from this state are actually alumni...Go figure huh?

I find it telling that you read and responded to part of my post, yet ignored the part about you lying about me not calling DW's mother.

Let's try this again:

Oh assy, in a world full of looney's it is you that I fear will eventually steal Grannies crown. Do you really assume that anyone could hope to have a reasonable discussion with you? You're one twisted little pretzel. Typically I just ignore your strange posts, but, since you addressed me directly, let me say this; I do feel for your situation. It has to be hell going through life with your head so far up your ass that you struggle for breath. I commend you for making the effort to lead as normal of a life as you can, but at the end of the day, your still just an ass clown. xoxo

This was JWB's fault. Whilst trying to keep upright on his moped in the cold Canadian weather, he dropped the camera that he was JUST trained in using. The pic snapped just as the camera hit the kickstand. James looked so investigatively handsome in the photo, it was the perfect shot!

The honesty is appreciated.

Sam and Tyler should take a lesson from this, admit you did wrong and move on. No need to defend stupidity with more stupidity. It truly is ok to be wrong. You will face less attacks if you own the error.

Talking about that Maura-is-living-in-Canada post that first appeared on topix... I recall posters back then speculated the choice of words, "her new squeeze is a hunk", suggested an older person wrote it, and some thought FM was behind it, either he posted it himself or someone posted on his behalf.

I wasn't necessarily directing this page to you. I had people like David Whalen (or, if James' theory is correct, I suppose, Maura) in mind when I decided to create it.

I wanted people to have the option to communicate with us (and have their voices heard) while being able to keep personal information entirely hidden from everyone.
