Maruchan --

You have pointed out, twice, that James has stated both that "the person who posted the Geocities letter (the one that explains that some family members know that Maura is living in Canada) was from [Taunton]," and that the person who responded to the Geocities letter ("Observer") was from Taunton.

Were you able to clarify which, if either, was from Taunton?

If James finds Maura, then this story will become far more famous than it already is. Some might "pack up and go home" -- but there will be plenty of other people ready to replace them.

Many have gone missing. How many staged a disappearance and went into hiding for 10 years?

You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.

What would be the point of people staying or being replaced on a Maura Murray thread if James finds her in Canada? There would literally be nothing left to talk about.

Even if she is found, it does not mean that her disappearance was staged. I suppose that can be debated for the next 10 years if james is successful. Good luck with that.

What I know from my research is that only the post from Observer was tracked to a location, which was Taunton. As far as I know, the Geocities letter has not been tracked to any location. I asked Advocate if she could confirm this, but she hasn't responded.

From Renner's post dated 12/1/13:

"Still no comment from M_____ as to whether or not she is the author of the messageboard post that first mentioned Maura alive and well in Canada."

He is again attributing the Geocities letter to MV because he has confused the two issues.(1) "... messageboard post that first mentioned Maura alive and well in Canada" is the Geocities letter with the (allegedly) medical abbreviation "MN" - location of poster unknown (to my knowledge), therefore, has nothing to tie it to MV.(2) Response to said Geocities letter by "Observer" has no nursing reference, the only thing possibly tying MV to it is Taunton location.

If she staged her disappearance, people would want to know why and how. They'd want to know what she has been doing for the past ten years.

Well, we're not speaking of facts.

James has not disclosed the factual basis of his belief that Maura is alive. For purposes of our discussion, it's pure conjecture.

I would assume, however, that James contemplates a staged disappearance.

But, yes, there would still be much to debate. That's why I don't believe that these threads would simply die if she were found.

I have mixed feelings about this. I find the idea of tracking a poster terrible (who would want to post on the site in the future?).

I would never reveal information about a poster, unless ordered to do so by subpoena. But that's me.

Assuming, however, that you wished to track a poster -- why track poster 2 (i.e., Observer) but not poster 1? I can come up with only one logical explanation: he had a way to contact poster 1 and ,therefore, knew his or her identity.

No one would have joined the forum or posted on it had they known they were being tracked. But I highly doubt they knew.

Like Maruchan, I´m willing to eat hoards of crow if MM is found. I hope she is, but I don´t believe it.

Some poor woman who happens to look somewhat like MM is no doubt going to be hounded down and harassed.

Good heavens calm down Hans. You're going to get your strudel all twisted up.
I'm a little disappointed in these recent posts. Some of your posts I've enjoyed but it seems now you are here for the same reasons that you accuse others of. This post is just mean and nasty. You call people names and insult them and tell them to get off their as* and do something productive but what is it that you have personally done that has been productive?
Maruchan has been quite helpful to this forum with his/her talent of finding information and facts. When he/she is wrong she is the first to admit it.
It doesn't seem that calling Maruchan nasty names is being very productive.

The Geocities letter is called such because it was posted on the Geocities forum, not on Advocate's forum. The link to the Geocities post was copied and pasted to Advocate's forum by Observer. Therefore, Advocate had no way to check who posted the original letter, she could only research Observer's post on her own forum.

Thanks for the clarification. You wouldn't by chance know the URL (or the name) of the Geocities forum, do you?

I'd like to look for it in the Internet Archive.

I've looked it up a few times on the Wayback Machine - always get the "can't be found, robots are crawling it" or whatever it says response.

As Renner had no access to user data on Advocate´s forum, it would have been Advocate who gave it to Renner, right?

I would imagine it was Advocate, this is Renner's post on 2/7/12:

"After I posted the report about the tip that links Maura to Toronto, a reader sent me an email which included, as an attachment, a report given to Lt. Scarinza of the NH State Police in 2009. The report was written by a CPA named James Leone. Leone knows computers. He understands how to track an IP address. He was contacted by the moderator of a forum devoted to finding what happened to Maura Murray."
