The thing is that no one even knocked on his door or called his house and he ran like a girl. If this scares him imagine how the poor people feel when strangers actually do knock on their door and call them to ask questions.

I think Sam just needed a reason to remove himself. The heat was getting turned up in Topix on his Suzanne hunt, the his beloved john green was critical of his "proof", it had to have been fairly demoralizing for him.
Sam knows all about proxies, and he should know how inaccurate the locations can be, especially if using a wireless network(my posts say I'm from CT, PA, MA, ME, NY and VT, I live in none of those states). The skittish behavior seems an overreaction on Sam's part.(Although personally I found it very amusing).
Who better to post from rockland than Sam himself. It allows him to cut and run without acknowledging his failure to satisfy Green.
