Funny because last night Fred said on WMUR:
"It's a road to Barlett where I'm sure she was going 'cause she knows it like her backyard,'cause we were in New Hampshire so much, at least four times a year. She was up there every year of her life."
I wonder which it was.
My opinion is that the balance of that statement, after saying "the road," is all referring to Bartlett, not the road going there.

I agree. Your reading makes perfect sense: "It's a road to Barlett where I'm sure she was going 'cause she knows [Barlett] like her backyard ...." The alternative reading -- that Maura "knows [a road to Barlett ] like her backyard" -- makes far less sense because it does not refer to a specific road.

To summarize, I believe that Fred stated that Maura was likely going to Bartlett because she was familiar with Bartlett and 112 could take her there.

Assuming that Maura changed her mind about going to Burlington due to car trouble or fatigue, Bartlett may well have served as a de facto plan B.

But if Maura had to make a detour, then her familiarity with Bartlett would be immaterial.

I think it more likely that she had to make a detour. Why? Because she was about 40 miles off course from Burlington (and had, obviously, not reached Bartlett yet). If she was concerned about car trouble or fatigue, she likely would not have wished to travel that far just so she could be in a familiar environment.

Right. And I didn't mean it as an insult. I read the passage the same way you did until Maruchan offered a different interpretation. Comparing the two, I think that Maruchan's interpretation is the better one.

There's nothing wrong with changing one's mind during a conversation or debate; right?

Right. I've changed my mind about different things more than once through the years.

I have always been puzzled by the idea that there are "teams" or "sides" in this case. If I say something positive about Fred Murray, I am said to be on one "side." If I say that I do not believe that Maura left in accordance with a plan to start a new life, then I am "against" James.

I think some of these ideas find their roots in the perceived or actual treatment of contributors on mauramurray (dot) com or mauramurraymissing (dot) com.

Those days are gone.

So, if I could make one suggestion, let's strive to judge ideas by standards of plausibility and credibility and not by the "side" that the idea favors. Every idea that James proposes has value because it makes me reconsider my own ideas. Many times, he persuades me to view things differently. i could say the same of some contributors here (Maruchan comes to mind).

wow. pure genius. if only i had thought of just that one suggestion. i'm fresh out of good ideas about MM. i don't like to make stuff up. you know, most of us don't have the skills to engage in critical thinking, analysis and the art of persuasion. poor, sorry arses that we are.

you know, most of us want to like and respect Renner. he's taken on a good project, has applied considerable energy, and doesn't back down from a challenge.
i think everyone moves toward or backs away from him, however, at various times and for various reasons that are unique to each individual.

"Search for Hanson woman missing since 2004 continues. Sunday marks the 10th anniversary of the disappearance of 21-year-old Hanson native Maura Murray. Her father is still trying to answer the question that has stumped police and a team of private investigators: What happened to Maura?"

"Healy, the private investigator, was blunt: He believes there is "zero" chance Maura is alive. He thinks she was abducted and murdered, and he's confident that one day the case will be solved."

**Why she left no longer matters, he said, and he believes she was abducted after her car crashed.
"Somebody grabbed her," Murray said.**

of course it matters WHY she left; her motivation for leaving and telling an untruth about her planned absence will always matter. JMHO

Of course it mattered. Always did. And I think there are people who still know to this day why and won't reveal that information. And I always wonder if this could have turned out differently if all that information was available right from the start.

Of course he can't admit that now. Admitting that would mean that a possible different outcome might have been possible if that was done.

It's quite entertaining but Tbh I'm still stuck on the Boston Pizza thing from awhile back so you can leave me out of it. Lastly to BF, u r right. Any team with Gretzky would have to be one of the best.
We can't get any help from other teams. Leafs beat useless Tortorella and Tampa just tied it against Detroit.

why would a father not hold out hope that she may be alive? why insist on a certain scenario that is not backed and proven by hard evidence, all the while dismissing the possible relationships that may have intersected with her life prior to her disappearance?
********

Fred Murray believes his daughter is dead, the victim of a crime. But he wants to keep her case in the public eye in hopes of finally knowing what really happened that night on the threshold of the White Mountain National Forest.

"There's no letting go," said Murray, a medical technician in Bridgeport, Conn. "My daughter wouldn't want me to quit on her. She'd want me to keep trying to find out who grabbed her."
