Minimize Harm
Ethical journalists treat sources, subjects and colleagues as human beings deserving of respect.
Journalists should:
*Show compassion for those who may be affected adversely by news coverage. Use special sensitivity when dealing with children and inexperienced sources or subjects.
*Be sensitive when seeking or using interviews or photographs of those affected by tragedy or grief.
*Recognize that gathering or reporting information may cause harm or discomfort. Pursuit of the news is not a license for arrogance.
*Recognize that private people have a greater right to control information about themselves than do public officials and others who seek power, influence or attention. Only an overriding public need can justify intrusion into anyone's privacy.
*Show good taste. Avoid pandering to lurid curiosity.
*Be cautious about identifying juvenile suspects or victims of sex crimes.
*Be judicious about naming criminal suspects before the filing of charges.
*Balance a criminal suspect's fair trial rights with the public's right to be informed.

I suspect that you are trying to compare the actions by renner to those of a journalist. I have known for a very long time now that he is no journalist. In order to have the ethics of a journalist he would have to have started with the ethics of a human being. He is sorely lacking. As I have said before, a vile piece of sxxt. Something I am use to scrapping off the bottom of my shoe. He has posted several outbursts on his site recently that shows how vile a piece of sxxt he is. I expect him to ramp up some of this type of activity as he gets closer to release date and he finds out less actual information about Maura. Again, look at how well his ad campaign is going. Think less journalist/investigator and more Jerry Springer. That is where he is headed.

Thus causing the damage to the left front drivers side.
Makes sense----He is a Professional and has been to hundreds of accidents a well as some others claim.
More plausible explanation
He is a Dish satellite retailer and installer and repairs tv, radios and I think some appliances. He also sells televisions and other such things in his store. He's not an accident expert or a vehicle mechanic by any means. What seems strange to him may not be strange at all if the snow was actually winged back on that corner by the plow. Just saying...

Being a first responder on a local fire department for over a decade. We are taught scene safety first and foremost. Nothing gets better by making more victims. While I almost always stop when alone, I always use my vehicle to protect me from oncoming traffic when I stop. Flashers/strobes running. Saying that, I almost never stop with my wife or when my kids were in the vehicle. Sorry but I can't use my vehicle to protect myself with my family in it. I have stopped once at a bad accident when I was able to get my vehicle off the road far enough to feel my wife was safe. That leaves me unprotected. I really recommend that most people call on their cell. That is probably the best thing that you can do to help and give dispatch as much information as you can. How many victims you can see, if they are moving/screaming. I know it sounds not too compassionate but screaming victims are living victims with fully intact vital functions.(airway, breathing, circulation) It's the ones not moving or saying anything that you have to check first. I will also mention that there are many unseen dangers at accidents that people don't think about. Newer vehicles have airbags located all over the car. All airbags have explosives that can go off without warning after an accident. You can watch several firefighter on youtube being injured by them if you look. There is also tremendous amounts of electrical current in the hybrid cars, can kill you in a heartbeat. Struts are also located all over the cars and can if they overheat shoot like a bullet. We had a firefighter have a strut shoot through his leg causing a very bad injury. Another had both legs broken by the struts on the bumper let go and hit his legs. Again, this isn't all inclusive but just a warning that there are many dangers to be aware of. Broken power poles with downed lines are another tremendous danger. I was almost killed because even though I knew a pole was down. The car was far off the road and I jumped over a guard rail several times before realizing that the power-lines had fallen on the guard rail a couple of hundred feet further up. You should also be aware of an accident I saw where a 65,000 pound, lime green, engine tank, protecting the scene of an accident was hit hard enough that they moved it three feet. They said, "they didn't see it". I have also seen people race down the emergency lane of an interstate that was closed because we were landing a helicopter. They apparently were much more important then everyone else who stopped. Fortunately they were stopped by the state police before there was a bigger problem. Seriously, be careful.

i wish i had been trained along the way to respond to emergencies, both as a parent and an ordinary, private citizen. i have been fortunate not to have come upon, witness or to have been part of a terrible accident or emergency. since i lack training, i'm pretty sure i could actually have a heart attack from fear and shock.
sliding off the road and hitting a structure? and surviving? no, that's not the kind of accident or emergency that would prompt that kind of response…but common sense makes good sense, for all the reasons you mention, Bill.

For me it was shaking. Lots of shaking, fortunately it was after the event was over. It's from the adrenalin dump. 8-)

It gets better the more you do it. I hardly shake at all anymore, even on bad calls. 8-) I never even use to get too upset with the dead people calls. What would really rip me up was to me was to watch the grief of the families. Kids, were always the worse. Those are the calls that would keep me up at night and the second guessing that everyone does to themselves.

Trust me the fire departments and EMS services would love to have you. That goes for all of you. They will train you for free and then keep training you. They would love to have you. Just stop in sometime, they will be very happy to have you. Just getting the certification is half the job. Actually doing it for a few years will train you so you are actually useful and not overwhelmed. I know it was a good year before I felt truly competent. Seriously, anyone would be very welcome.

That ends my recruitment pitch for this year. I should also point out that I didn't do the certifications or all those years in the FD for altruistic reasons. At least not solely altruistic. I did it for many selfish reasons being that if someone in my family or fellow workers or hikers fell ill or were sick, I wouldn't feel as helpless as I did one time. That started it. So at least partially, it was a wholly selfish endeavor.

So end this years recruitment drive. 8-)

so, i missed my calling to become a nurse. it's too late….that won't happen now. took first aid / cpr, years ago, but never updated. i've witnessed the aftermaths of a few motorcycle accidents, but feel certain the most horrifying circumstance would be injury or a medical event to a loved one….and not having the skills to intervene.
we depend on you….professionals in EMS, fire and police. unfortunately, it takes time for help to arrive.
paradoxically, i'll react to a lesser event, but remain calmer in a more major circumstance. i don't want to further test my luck, however, and so your suggestion is well taken. it would be productive and useful to learn some important life-saving techniques.
thank you for all of your years of professional experience and likely, countless times your life intersected with another's in need.

This is really helpful information - lots of things I would never think about. Thanks for sharing it.

I've always kept jumper cables in my car and have helped a lot of people in my time, but it was always in areas with lots of people around, mainly parking lots in shopping areas. As a woman, I feel it would be dangerous for me to stop and help somebody on a roadside, so would call LE instead to report it. After what happened to the SBD, I understand Wowzer's concerns and certainly empathize with them. It's a shame that good intentions have to be stifled by a situation such as this.

In reference to this inflammatory post by Renner:
"Top Commenter on Family Forum is Suspect in Another Murder,"
as of noon today, the "commenter," initials JV, was no longer a member of the Maura Murray Missing Group Facebook page.
I'd like to clarify that my reason for posting this was to point out that the moderators of the MMM Facebook forum likely banned JV from their page, and therefore weren't "totally cool giving space to" him.

I read all of JV's comments on that page. He really only started contributing heavily starting a couple of weeks ago, and most of his posts were angry posts directed at Jeff Strelzin and his involvement with the Stacey Burns investigation. Very few of his posts had to do with Maura. I kept thinking that he should be banned from the page as he was really not interested in Maura and was using the page as a place to vent about Strelzin. Whether he was eventually banned because of that reason, or because somebody alerted the moderators to Renner's post about JV being a POI in the Stacey Burns case, he was banned from the page, disproving Renner's whiney post that "they're totally cool giving space to" JV.

In other news, there are a couple of people on Renner's blog who are attributing his last few inflammatory posts to some clever game that Renner is playing - from the JV thread:

"James, I think I know what you are doing and I am certain that you know what you are doing. Ignore the naysayers and stick to your plan, I think it will pay off."

"Renner is trying to elicit a credible death threat or actual physical confrontation against either him or his family so he can call in the FBI."

I think this is the funniest thing I've read in a while - that, rather than just doing his regular bit of defaming Murray family members and having a hissy fit because a POI in another case was posting on the MMM FB page but Renner can't because they banned him, that this is part of some grand scheme to do something heroic.

It's sooooo funny.:)

Nurses

YEAH best not to be a nurse in the NH VT area. Remember a lot of those unsolved homicides and missing persons were NURSES.

Just saying it.

Hmmmmm, even seems a 2009 murder in NH lakes Region was a nurse.

That was actually the law in Germany. Thanks god this isn't Germany. No one should ever be charged under that law. I think a lawyer would tear that law apart. I am not obliged while I am on duty to render aid IF I believe there is a danger to myself or my crew. And I am held to a much higher standard than a citizen if I am on duty. You can easily skate that law by calling or even attempting to call 911 on your cell phone. That alone should would be considered aid, and rightly so. There was an absurd case a few years ago in Texas where some lawyer tried to get damages from a firefighter who drove past an accident scene. It was thrown out. The off duty firefighter didn't know their was an accident and the court ruled even if he did, since he was off duty, he has no legal duty to act.

Oh, without a doubt. It clearly seemed to me that renner was baiting the family and friends. I was amazed at what he considered "threats". He really is naive if he thinks those were threats.
