Do you know exactly where you may have seen both the drivers side and passenger side were deployed?I know I have seen that two bags were deployed but this car might have had the side bags also so the drivers steering wheel and side bag. If the passenger side went off she might have had a passenger of something heavy on the seat. Here´s one source. South Shore Express, MM Missing, part 2, The Accident: "The driver's side windshield was cracked and both front air bags had been deployed."

Thank you to those who have welcomed my input. If you'd like to discuss, feel free to contact me.:) I don't think I want to post here anymore, though. For all the good discussion, there's equal silliness. I'm not interested, and I suspect you're not, too. Hope you are all well & happy.

jwb wrote: ok I got trashed asking about airbags. None responded but with peanuts and spam lol if someone was in the passenger seat the airbags should have deployed.hence someone else was in the car. I was simply asking if anyone had the info. it was stated that two bags were deployed. There are sensors mounted in the front of the car on both sides, if the impact is sufficient both bags will deploy.

From what I can see the 1996 Saturn S Series Maura owned had 2 airbags one driver and one passenger. The sensors are usually under the hood and or under the vehicle around the bottom bumper. I had a 1993 Saturn myself.

Without it this would be a very depressing and stressful forum. But there should also be a good amount of seriousness to even out the mix.

I believe the federal standards require independantly working airbags on drivers and passengers sides. Otherwise the text I quoted in my first post on the subject would not make sense.

Did Maura stop for fuel? I keep reading the gas gauge said the tank was either full or nearly full. The 1996 Saturn had a 12.8 gal capacity and highway mileage was rated as much as 40mpg. I had a 1993 Saturn with the exact same engine and it got 45MPG on the highway verified numerous times. Gas gauges can be funky especially when full, how many times have you gone on a road trip and 100 miles into the trip the gauge has hardly moved and yet you know you have used more fuel than what its showing. The only TRUE way to get an idea if Maura stopped would be to measure the contents of the fuel tank. Her travel miles would have been roughly 150 miles. I have read her tank was nearly full, what is nearly full? She would have used about1/3 of her fuel capacity. IF she filled up when she left she would have had plenty of fuel to reach her assumed destination and then some.

You contribute nothing to this forum.

If she fueld up at say a Cumby's or other quick fuel place, typically there are cameras--so perhaps she's on video somewhere doing that. also, I don't ever remember learning if the video at the ATM was ever released---odd since that is usually the first thing that is released so people can see what the individual looked like most recently. Did the liquor store have a video camera?
