sophie bean wrote: The fact that Maura had "a reason" for leaving Amherst is by no means evidence that the reason is necessarily relevant to her disappearance. I'm pretty uncomfortable, to put it mildly, with demonizing the family of a missing person. That's not what you're doing, is it, Lauren? And the fact that Maura had "a reason" for leaving Amherst can be evidence that the reason IS relevant to her disappearance.KNowing why she left could explain the mood she was in, where she was heading, who might she be going to see etc. etc. So yes I believe the reason she left Amherst and headed north to the mountains in an unreliable car in the winter time and lied about a death in the family is very important IMHO.

IMO wrote: <quoted text> The above shows Sophie Bean to be baiting Lauren. I hope Lauren knows this and has the sense to not respond. This is the same SB who accused Lauren of saying something and asking for her to be banned for saying it, when Lauren actually said the very opposite of what Sophie Bean said she said. Sophie Bean never had the human decency to retract or apologize for this. Most posters would. And this is the supposed better "new" Sophie Bean, not the "old" Sophie Bean who marched shoulder to shoulder, hip to hip with Shack for so long. Sophie Bean was one of the worst on MMM. SB uses the word demonize, she is one of the chief demonizers of the innocent people of New Hampshire. She knows all about demonizing because she did it for a very, very long time. It's ironic that she's now accusing others of what she herself did. And no, Lauren did not demonize anyone in my opinion, just Wowzer's post alone backs that up. Lauren saw the old MMM forum where there was lots of baiting going on. I bet she can spot a pile of bait from a mile away. If anyone was demonized it was BA the bus driver. At one point they wanted the poor man's whole yard dug up.

In the White Mountains? BWWWAHHAHHAHHA!!!!

It would have taken much more energy than I have and the use of a jackhammer to pull such a feat. You know when someone mentions burying something/someone or hiding something/someone in a pond or lake in Feb. they evidently haven't been here in the winter. Or they haven't tried to stick a shovel into the rock hard ground or drill thru several inches of ice with an auger to ice fish.

For the heck of it, I'm going to throw in my two cents FWIW. I just don't see things they same way as the rest of you do regarding the old MMM forum. I did however see posts perceived in as many different ways as there were posters....innocent perceptions, misunderstandings, misspellings, and mis...fits. I witnessed Helena try to answer the same questions a billion times over. An impossible task.....maneuver through a sea of possible real tips, and identify the fake lip stick stains......

Guy wasn't paying attention, backed out onto the road without looking, and almost put the claws of his excavator into the front of my vehicle one time. Close call.

Is Maura's family somehow connected to the Kennedy family? Friends or something? The email address to contact the old MMM forum was grassyknoll at... As in Dealey Plaza, where President Kennedy was killed. Grassyknoll is usually understood as a conspiracy theory reference to the presence of a second gunman. The use of "grassyknoll" seems a weird way to gain the public confidence.

Saw a Shelby Cobra with NH tags flying up N. Maple St. in Hadley today through the intersection where the Corolla crashed. Made me think what kind of car Maura might have got into - if that's what happened - right after the Saturn crashed.

I'd somewhat agree. It was a new, or at least newer, venue for a lot of people to use in 2004 and a few years beyond. Hopes were high that some information might be forthcoming, someone might tell on someone. The work involved is gargantuan, I agree. People are human. People polarize over emotional issues. On and on and on. Some of the actions were and still are hard to understand/justify, but it was what it was. Feelings are still raw and some things started on the MMM forum that later popped up on these Topix forums and even in real life (speaking from experience). They knew RC Stevens from the start, that's a fact. Not sure how much, if any, influence he had on all this. Attack dogs (or so-called ducks) were allowed to bait. No one really knows how many monikers represented how many people. It's an odd case of a missing person, possibly murdered, that anyone with a keyboard can discuss. Or troll. Just found out, by the way, what "troll" really means from an actual, in-the-flesh troll. Lots of factors. But I still want to know where is my Pint?????? Promises, promises.

I remember when the four Sunday school girls were killed by a bomb at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham AL in 1963. But not until the 1990s did I visit that church and the adjacent Civil Rights Institute. The following is excerpted from a UK website. Not sure of total accuracy, but gets the point across. http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/USAC16.h... On Sunday, 15th September, 1963, a white man was seen getting out of a white and turquoise Chevrolet car and placing a box under the steps of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. Soon afterwards, at 10.22 a.m., the bomb exploded killing Denise McNair (11), Addie Mae Collins (14), Carole Robertson (14) and Cynthia Wesley (14). The four girls had been attending Sunday school classes at the church. Twenty-three other people were also hurt by the blast. Civil rights activists blamed George Wallace, the Governor of Alabama, for the killings. Only a week before the bombing he had told the New York Times that to stop integration Alabama needed a "few first-class funerals." A witness identified Robert Chambliss, a member of the Ku Klux Klan, as the man who placed the bomb under the steps of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. He was arrested and charged with murder and possessing a box of 122 sticks of dynamite without a permit. On 8th October, 1963, Chambliss was found not guilty of murder and received a hundred-dollar fine and a six-month jail sentence for having the dynamite. The case was unsolved until Bill Baxley was elected attorney general of Alabama. He requested the original Federal Bureau of Investigation files on the case and discovered that the organization had accumulated a great deal of evidence against Chambliss that had not been used in the original trial. In November, 1977 Chambliss was tried once again for the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing. Now aged 73, Chambliss was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. Chambliss died in an Alabama prison on 29th October, 1985. On 17th May, 2000, the FBI announced that the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing had been carried out by the Ku Klux Klan splinter group, the Cahaba Boys. It was claimed that four men, Robert Chambliss, Herman Cash, Thomas Blanton and Bobby Cherry had been responsible for the crime. Cash was dead but Blanton and Cherry were arrested. In May 2002 the 71 year old Bobby Cherry was convicted of the murder of Denise McNair, Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley and was sentenced to life in prison.
