Det Columbo wrote: <quoted text> Are U-Mass police ACTUAL cops or are they rent a cops? They are very much actual, real cops. In MA, even cops at private colleges are often sworn special state police officers. The jurisdiction of UMass police includes far more than just the UMass/Amherst campus. It includes all off-campus property also owned by the Univeristy, which is a lot. UMass police officers have been used as undercover drug cops as in operations of the Hampshire/Franklin Drug Task Force. One was used a few years ago in the Greenfield/Montague area. UMass cops are totally real cops.

Det Columbo wrote: <quoted text> Are U-Mass police ACTUAL cops or are they rent a cops? Columbo, my understanding is that UMASS police are the ones who identified Maura in the video. The family was not able to see this video. In my opinion UMASS police ARE rent-a-cops. Why are they keeping this footage to themselves? EVERY missing person has their last photo , footage shown to the public, in order to IDENTIFY what they were last wearing, looked like. Why is Maura's case so different. Why did you not see this crucial info???

UMass cops are officers of the court; they must meet the same standards that cops in all other MA municipalities must meet; they must have passed the same training and remain certified. They belong to a union. They are fully academy trained. They routinely arrest people and provide sworn evidence in court. UMaas PD has a full-time department, a variety of vehicles, and patrols an area that is comprised of about 25,000 people. They serve warrants and orders in towns miles away from their jurisdiction. Rent-a-cops have far less training and much more supervision. UMass cops are as real as any other cops in MA.

Nobody is answering why UMASS police have not shown the video of Maura to the family. Positive identification of a person is usually done BY FAMILY. WHO is saying it is Maura in the video, why not show at least still shots to the public.

jwb wrote: who gives a crap about Snowey , wowzer, and the rest of them it is all about Maura and that is that. It has been a pathetic display when Poppy called out snowey and hannah that he rest of the crew came out in full force. As far as I am concerned, this forum has lost it's purpose to be able to discuss what might have happened to Maura. Poppy was dead on in that Snowey and wowzer are not interested in Maura but are only interested in the fight with Shack and stuff that happened prior. What a shame for Maura and her family. Ask yourselves, what if it were your daughter? you attack others that have no other concern but what happened to maura. No Agenda to push or side to take but to discuss things. forget all the other stuff. A missing person is all that matters here. It was a pathetic display of humanity with the posts coming out after Poppy yesterday. You proved his point in a pathetic way. In respect for Maura JWB I concur.

Rag in the tailpipe.... It is possible that the Saturn was disabled with the rag in the tailpipe somewhere close by to the WB curve. The person who put the rag in the tailpipe was close by as well. This person then came to MM aid with the offer of a tow to his shop. At the WB curve the truck towing MM vehicle turned the corner and the saturn being towed by a tow rope followed. Only they were too close to the inside corner and sheared off the bank with the tow strap. It is at this point when the car came into contact with the back of the trucks bumper or tow hitch. This caused the airbags to deploy, the car to come unhooked and spin around in the road facing westbound. The truck then left the scene and turned up BH Rd. a short distance. He lives just up the road about 2 miles so He knows the area well as well as LE response time. Plus the fact that He has a scanner. Maura grabs the stuff she needs from the car and talks to Butch for about 2 to 3 min. at the most. She then walks the short distance from the front area of the Marrottes front lawn by thier trees to the intersection of Rte. 112 and BH Rd. Maura gets into the truck with this man and goes the couple miles up the road to this guys secluded home in the woods. Maura has not been seen since Butch Atwood talked to her or whomever it was at the car.

She presumably worked for the Residence Hall Student Security Program which is under the auspices UMass police. Couldn't a family member or a news outlet or even an interested party petition the courts for the release of the on-campus security camera film from February 9, 2004? Or is there an issue with it being private property?

So, Columbo, in this scenario are you saying that Perp offered MM a tow with a rope or a chain that ended with the Saturn shearing off the north-side bank and crashing? Does he then tell MM he'll pop off and get his tow truck (or other items) and be right back to get her out of the snowbank in front of the M--ettes? BA comes along and then Perp shows up again? Perp could have an AAA decal and that's why MM said she'd already "called" for help. Wonder if LE checked the under side of the Saturn for finger prints? Isn't there a U-shaped steel rod so you can attach a chain to say... pull a car out of the ditch? Yes, he might have been wearing gloves, but maybe not? It wasn't a "stick your tongue to the metal fence" kind of night (by many accounts) so maybe he wasn't wearing any gloves? If there were unidentified male gloves in the car, wonder if SAR dogs were utilized to track their owner? Does anybody have any sense as to whether such a person (possible perp) might be still living in the area or even still alive?

Not enough force. Airbags donīt deploy that easily. You said yourself the Saturn would have been disabled by the rag in the tailpipe, so no motor running, not enough force.
