snowy never answered my question either. I guess you agree with his premise that she hitched a ride?

I don't know why I bother writing when you don't bother reading. Refer back to post #7852. She may have hitched a ride. What happened after that is unknown. Completely consistent with the evidence as are the other two listed. Bill

I had thrown it out there a week a so ago if it was possible Maura had stopped at a rest area on rt 91 to poss check directions or hit the restroom. Yes it's possible. Is the one in Bradford, VT even open in the winter? Maybe JWB you could a drive-by -- not that kind of drive-by... but I can't find anything on-line as to whether the paved lay-by is plowed in winter.

I am not sure why its such an issue. I am not WTH, I don't know him that I am aware of. I was simply offering my take on the interview with Lt. Scarinza, just my opinion nothing more. Why the drama over this? As far as your post here: jwb wrote: <quoted text> Thanks Bill what do you think about his statement: Scarinza continued that train of thought: "My sense is that she might have gotten a ride. I think that is his opinion, that he thinks she might have gotten a ride. Then again, the might not have gotten a ride. He didn't say she likely got a ride, he didn't say she probably got a ride, just that she might have gotten a ride. That is one of the possibilities, isn't it? I personally don't think that is what happened, but it is possible. No one knows, not Scarinza, not me, none of the other Investigators who worked the case. It's pure speculation, all I did was tell you what I speculated based on the information I remember from the case. See?

I am not sure of the exact hours of operation for the rest area building. It is plowed all winter of course and it a well lit rest area, but in a very lonely spot. I have to go to DHMC in Hanover probably twice a month and this is always where I stop for a bathroom call.

let me see if I have this straight - many have been saying for YEARS that there's little or no chance that she might have been abducted or harmed by a stranger AND YET when it is now proposed that she might have accepted a ride from someone (who clearly may have been a stranger) everyone thinks that is LIKELY? huh? so I guess that I'll rephrase what I've said before - she was not followed and abducted by a stranger - a stranger coincidentally happened upon her in distress, gave her a ride, and then who knows? yes, that's absolutley more likely... and as regards statistics - how many women travelling alone who go missing are later found to have picked up and started a happy new life without telling "anyone"? do we really want to compare that number to those women travelling alone who go missing and meet with foul play - IF ONLY in the CT River Valley? it HAS happened before and it MIGHT have happened again

WHo thinks it is likely Sophie? Can you refer to the post where someone says it is likely she was abducted? I think it is possible, though not likely. Also remember, there are many factors in this case that make an abduction much less possible than would be in a normal situation. Namely the possible window of opportunity as well as Maura's very erratic behavior. But we have been over this many many times, so hey you believe whatever you wish to believe! No one can prove you wrong and you can't prove you are right, absent finding Maura or her body. Believe away, it's cool with me. Whatever makes you happy.

Th reason I was interested in what Bill and snowy thought about what scarzienza stated is because Bill ,snowy and wowzer get real nasty to posters when they bring up another thought of what happened to Maura. When you bring up the idea that she may have been picked up by another vehicle they call it fantasy in that there are no facts that say anything other than her walking away. Scarzienza has more facts than any of us and he stated he feels she may have been picked up. I am open to all senarios but please refrain from being vicious when someone else sees things differently .

Excellent information! It would be interesting to know how late (in the evening) in Feb, 2004 the pavilion was open (and lighted) and if there was, at that time, surveillance cams. Not that any footage would still exist, but rather to see if a learned perp. might try to hang out there. A 1970s/80s/90s CT River Valley perp. may not fit that profile in 2004... but maybe someone wanted to outdo that... in their own way? One up their predecessor... make certain the bodies were never found?

jwb wrote: <quoted text> I think it is highly possible- female alone at night maybe freezing cold and ready to accept a ride? not far fetched. Agreed, if she had in fact been acting rationally. However she clearly was not acting rational, she was acting irrational and erratic, was she not? It begs the question, if she declined an offer of help from SBD, who one would assume presented some sense of safety as he was driving a huge yellow school bus, why would she then accept a ride from someone else a very short time later? Highly possible? How do you account for her highly erratic behavior declining help from Butch? One thing is clear here, above everything else I can state that the one thing we can all agree on is that maura Murray was acting irrational and erratic. Why then do you continue to make assumptions of what a reasonable person would do when she was acting unreasonably?
