From the blog:

Healy and his friends interviewed a number of strange characters near where she went missing. One of the people he looked at closely was the man he refers to as "that shithead, Butch Atwood. He gave us 3 different versions of what happened the night he talked to Maura on the side of the road." In one version, Maura spoke to him from the car. In another, she was standing outside when she spoke to him. Healy even went to Florida, after Butch moved there, to question him again. But Butch wouldn't say anything other than to tell the PI that he had once been a police officer in Taunton , Mass--another lie, as Butch was never a police officer, though he did work for local government in Taunton for a time. In the end, it appeared Butch was nothing more than a tale-tale teller, a guy prone to exaggerating stories, "a pathological liar."

To wait for whom?

If you were trying to reach AAA and you didn't know that cell service was impossible at WB corner, you might stay in your car where there was no wind and some light so you could read off your AAA card #. If you went down the road on foot to try AAA (in search of a signal) you'd have your AAA card on you unless you knew it off by heart.

If you were going to run away to avoid a possible DUI then wouldn't you put on extra clothes? And take your AAA card so you could make that call later on from a land line.

Unless you were waiting for someone you knew to pass along and collect you, but then you'd take your clothes and the booze.

NH authorities ask for help in Louise Chaput case.
http://doj.nh.gov/media-center/press-releases...

on March 4th, 2010 at 2:37 pm

Police have a suspect in the case of Louise Chaput, the Sherbrooke social worker who disappeared and was found murdered in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in 2001. NH police aren’t saying much other than that the suspect is male and lived in the NH region at that time.

There is DNA evidence from the crime scene that could link the suspect.

If there was a POI in the background at the ATM who LE thought might be possible for abducting Maura wouldn't they have put it out to the public for tips? If that were the case then it might be a case of kidnapping over state lines which would be reason to call in the FBI. I think if the family, friends and private investigators of/for MM thought that was the case there would have been a hullabaloo over that many moons ago and a lot of speculation in the media to that effect.
What if her father was in the photo's from the ATM? Would they just want to hand them over to him, or their family? Maybe they would want to follow him arround for a while and see if he can lead them to anymore clues. Do you think if her Father is in the photo that if they release them he will be more cooperative, or do you think he may say LE altered them?

Maybe it was one of her friends they can easily ID and don't need anymore help with realeasing them for an ID.

Even on the show disappeared they show videos of people that disappeared. The showed Lee Cutler walking in Walmart. Just to give an example. Obviously this is being held for a good reason. LE isn't trying to be jerks. How do you know the FBI didn't look at the pictures? The FBI doesn't have to log everything that they do and report to us.

At this point if the photos don't show us what we think happened we will create a Conspiracy Theory that LE created the pictures. It would all start with it took 8 years to show the photos obviously they did something.

I think the photos are in good hands.

Unless you didn't care and were never coming back. But why not pawn the jewelry in Amherst, take the booze and clothes. Unless your were going to a nudist colony. In Quebec. In February.

You're right, it doesn't add up.

Now if you are thinking the police was called and you wanted to get out of there quickly I could see her forgeting to take a lot of things.

If RF says he say someone running 4-5 miles away I would have thought she would have had her running shoes on.

I'm glad NH LE never give up! Interesting -- Louise didn't take I-91 given the time-line. A very tight time frame also... she goes for a quick hike at 3pm when sundown on November 15, 2001 was at 4:22 and she's by all accounts an experienced hiker. Again vanishes into thin air.

JWB it is a fact she witnessed the scene before Atwood because she called the police before he did. I don't know if when she called she was keeping an eye on the scene. She may have went to the phone called it in, and by that time Atwood had already came and went. I'm speculating but she probably already went to the trunk since BA saw her standing outside the car.
Possibly Tom, I wish there was a more detailed timeline to reference.

Apparently that is a fact. But Did she drink while running. Smoking would be very painful for an advid runner.
From the blog:
One thing that has been re-reported with little verification over the years is the story by Faith Westman, who lived in the house across the street from where Maura's car came to rest on Wild Ammonoosuc Rd., in which she says she saw a man in Maura's car smoking a cigarette. That's not exactly right, she told me last week.
"I heard a crash and then I went to the window. I saw the car. There was a red light in the car, which I thought might be the light from the end of a cigarette," says Westman. "But I never saw a man and the red light could have been anything. Maybe a cell phone light as she was trying to find a signal to call someone."
She saw the woman in the car get out and walk around the vehicle as she called the accident in to local authorities--crashes on that curve in the wintertime are not unusual in themselves and she has to do this at least once every season.
Tom, your Blog that you posted says FW saw maura get out of her car as she was calling police. So her getting out of the car and the phone call took place at the same time, and that happened before SBD? How much time before FW called and SBD called? anyone remember

timeline

FW calls 7:27

hanover calls HPD 7:48 to advise of the 911 call by BA and that circuits had been busy.

51 min between FW seeing a fem getting out of her car and making the call to PD and the time HP got a call from Hanover.

The missing info is when did BA make his first call
and got the busy signal.

What time did the mayottes see BA?

Just trying to lay down the timeline of Did Ba stop first and then maura got out of her car or did
fw see a female get out of the car before Ba arrived on the scene?

Tom,

If her running shoes were missing but her running gear was in a carry-all in the car then I think all the "Missing" posters would have included -- "possibly wearing Nike style XYZ trainers" -- or something to that effect. Given Maura's running excellence they probably were specialized and expensive footgear and something the family would have wanted have the public be on the lookout for.

Reading between the lines on this thread, I don't sense that many posters here believe anyone was running 5 miles down the road, not even a stray Sasquatch. JMObservation.

And she didn't know for certain the police had been notified of a crash.

I found this on aanother post

After Atwood drove away, Faith Westman noticed the Saturn's interior lights switch on and off and witnessed a flurry of activity at the rear of the car, including a person standing at the trunk, according to private investigator John Smith, who spoke with the Westmans after the accident.

This, really makes it clear that maura was still there after the SBD left and to me rules him out.

The activity in the trunk may have been the rag

I disagree with this. I think that run, in that amount of time, was very clearly within many peoples capabilities, especially Maura. I think she would have had to be brain dead to not know that police were on their way.
