no other person or vehicle seen around mauras vehicle by witnesses and it would be pretty stupid to leave a crime weapon intentionally at the scene of a crime

Why did she need to ditch her pack? It was dark and it would have been on her back, not easy for the CW to see driving past. If it was her I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if she was actively trying to evade any contact with anyone. She may have come in contact with CW either in a spot where she couldn't get off the road due to terrain or thought that she was safe enough at that location to not worry about people coming from the other direction.
Bill
What time did RF say he saw her. Running at any decent speed with a back pack is very difficult, and if I was fleeing an DUI accident on foot I wouldn't want to get caught with alchol on me. That defeats the reason for fleeing.

cw said she went down a side road. I can't picture what road he might have been referring to down near 116 the old logging trail on the left maybe?
Does anyone else remember the "side road" comment? I don't remember hearing that. I thought that he came out of a side road rt 116 from Franconia and that the person seen was on 112. I could be wrong so I am asking what others remember or better yet, can point to something.

It would be dumb to get caught with the weapon as well.

You can't tell me the Mr. Atwood didn't ID Maura because it was really dark, and than assume Maura would place a rag in the tail pipe to show her car broke down.

I heard the side road as well. I believe it was on Mr. Renners blog. I went to check the blog and there is a new post.
See Below:

Another rumor can be confirmed. Maura Murray was caught using a stolen credit card number in early November, 2003, according to documents received today from Amherst Police.

According to the police reports, in early November, a female student at UMass discovered some odd charges on her credit card statement. Someone had been using her credit card number to order take-out from Pinocchio's Pizza. After calling the credit company, this student called Amherst Police who then contacted Pinocchio's and two other area pizza restaurants. After checking their records, Pinocchio Pizza managers found that the orders had been delivered to Maura's dorm room. That very night, shortly after Pinocchio's was made aware of the fraud, Maura called and again tried to use the same number. Officers enlisted the deliveryman in a sting in which he would present the bill for Maura to sign. When she did, the police approached her dorm room.

The police quickly explained why they were there and took her picture (above). Maura at first gave no explanation. Eventually, she admitted using the card number, which she said she'd found on a discarded receipt in the trash.

According to the documents, the charges against Maura would have been dismissed in February, 2004, around the time she disappeared-- if she managed to stay out of trouble until then.

Here's the heartbreaking part. Maura was doing this for food. And the theft only amounted to $79.02.

This post does add a lot of support for the runaway from the accident theory. Maybe she thought if she got a DUI she would be voilating probation.

I am afraid I don't even understand the question or your point. First, I have never said people run from abandoned vehicles. I said that people who have alcohol on board have a known tendency to run from crashed cars. They weren't abandoned until they ran from them.
And yes, if you crash your car, and you don't think that the police are going to show up, as well as fire and EMS, you would probably be considered not too savvy, i.e. brain dead.
Bill
Nobody said "run" or "ran". Time for you to re-read your old posts, old chap... if you haven't made them go "poof" that is.

Not interested. I know what I write and know what I wrote. Produce the post in question and if you can't understand it I'll explain it.

Maura was said to have been seen by RF 4=5 miles from the car. The example above shows 4-5 miles can be achieved within a half hour.

We use to run 5 miles in 55 minutes with combat boots, consistently, winter, summer, day or night on the road. I think we were talking between 30 minutes and an hour, so assume 45 minutes that Maura had to run to that witnessed location. Based upon when CW left his work and travel time. I am sure that run was something that Maura could have easily done and had been within her capabilities.

Big difference between 5K (approx. 3.1 miles) and 5 miles. HIGHLY unlikely she could have covered 5 miles in a half hour under those conditions.

JWB thats 5K not 4-5 miles. 5K is equal to about 3.1 miles. To run 5 miles in 35 minutes would be like running 8.5 speed on the treadmill. I'm not saying that can't be done but given the fact she had a back pack and no proper running gear, and weather conditions that could be tough.

WTH- I respect your input.

1. Please don't forget she was only seen by one person which means she was successfully dodging the other cars (probbaly hiding in the woods when they went by) that would have slowed her down.
2. Running at 8.5 on a treadmill is tough enough doing it dogding cars in the snow, ice is extreme. The temp was 30 degrees. Running that fast would have been very painful for her lungs.

Even more of a tragic story than originally estimated and this would make her vulnerable to a predator... especially one who came across as sympathetic.

here is a better example of a 5 mile race results

http://onlineraceresults.com/race/view_race.p...

5 miles can be done in a half hour if your well fit.

if she was seen 4 miles from the car it would obviously taken her less.

I agree that it would be tough with winter clothes on ect.. but I am sure her adrenalin was pumping from fear due to it was pitch dark and she was lost etc...

No, perhaps one who didn't see the warning signs and is now remorseful. But not someone who is culpable in any way, imo. Just someone who doesn't want personal misjudgements by a 21 year old coed to overshadow the facts of her disappearance and who might have abducted her.
