Please don't forget she was only seen by one person which means she was successfully dodging the other cars (probbaly hiding in the woods when they went by) that would have slowed her down. 2. Running at 8.5 on a treadmill is tough enough doing it dogding cars in the snow, ice is extreme. The temp was 30 degrees. Running that fast would have been very painful for her lungs. LE found his(RF) sighting credible as Bill would say "Fact"

What was rumored has now been confirmed by JR. Provides a partial explanation for the protective PBB machine all these years.

I can offer this, for what it's worth. As I recall, There was a significant amount of effort looking into the sighting by Forn. Due to the length of time from sighting to report, and other factors, there was some skepticism as to the accuracy of the report, however I recall that there were certain facts that made LE believe there was a high certainty the person Forn saw was MM. Take it for what it is worth, LE felt it was a probably sighting. Columbo, you were involved in this in the early stages right? Surely this must be your recollection as well, the file on this lead alone is thick.

You are forgetting that her father searched that area for any foot prints of someone leaving the road. None were found. She may have hitchhiked part of that distance. That would change the math. If you use the crying episode as the beginning of a mental break then she may not have been in a normal mental state and could have traveled with lighter clothing not feeling the cold. Insensitivity for cold is a little known feature of a mental break. That has been known for over three hundred years.

Just someone who doesn't want personal misjudgements by a 21 year old coed to overshadow the facts of her disappearance and who might have abducted her. perhaps? might? the "facts of her disappearance" do not point to abduction, even if you'd like it to be so.

Don't have the article but RF never said it was Maura. My belief is that he said he saw a "youth" with a hooded sweatshirt that could possibly been Maura.

Thats right, I never implied he said it was maura. The NHSP believe he may have seen Maura. Highly credible

Those roads are pretty untraveled in the winter. 2) I have done exactly what you are talking about. Those distances, in that amount of time in those temperatures. It isn't that hard when you are young and in shape. I remember for me, getting my forehead sweaty during runs like that use to give me a headache. That was the worst part of it. Never bothered my lungs. Bill

Tom wrote: <quoted text>Another rumor can be confirmed. Maura Murray was caught using a stolen credit card number in early November, 2003, according to documents received today from Amherst Police. Now this is very interesting if true. We have been lead to believe that Maura was released from West Point because of an identical rumor. I have said many times before that it is rare for someone to leave one of the academies once they are in. The story from the family that Maura left because the academy "wasn't a good fit" was always very weak stab at an explanation. Bill

So if Maura was using a stolen credit card for food it doesnt sound like she was getting much financial help from family. That leads me to question the car shopping scenerio. Is there evidence of actual car shopping?
