I guess that is a fact now, one that can't be argued.

It may be possible that the upsetting call that was supposedly made from an internal school phone to Maura might have been another student confronting Maura over another instance of credit card fraud.Just throwing it out there. Maybe there were other miss uses of credit cards and the pizza order was the first that she got caught.
Could be. Maybe Maura knew that something was going to come up soon and wanted to go away for a week until it blew over. Maybe she saw the heat coming and wanted t get away.

1) I don't think there was a lot of traffic for her to dodge. Those roads are pretty untraveled in the winter.
2) I have done exactly what you are talking about. Those distances, in that amount of time in those temperatures. It isn't that hard when you are young and in shape. I remember for me, getting my forehead sweaty during runs like that use to give me a headache. That was the worst part of it. Never bothered my lungs.
Bill
4-5 Miles in 35 minutes is a strenous run. Those are times with ideal situations. Mix in the fact that she didn't have running shoes and was wearing a back pack. By the run was finished her bottles would be broken because of the bouncing. She would have one giant MI mud slide.

Also when people make those runs that fast as the times JWB posted the runners are prepared for it. Meaning they drank a lot of water and probably took some vitamin B. Maura just had wine and that would even add to her dehydration to run that far. Now if Maura really made that run I think she would most def. have died in the woods. She would be vomitting the wine and Lord knows what else she drank.

citigirl,
I wholeheartedly agree with you on this point.
Whatever Maura may or may not have done, it is a matter of unfortunate fact that she is missing since nearly eight years.
That is heart-breaking, whatever the facts and circumstances leading up to her disappearance might have been.
Lets be careful with the "whatever the facts and circumstances" as of right now. Apparently Fred didn't want us to know about the cc and it doesn't look like this was her first time. I would be very agry if I found out if even more negative facts came out. Facts worse than this like a hit and run, or something like that.

Her father on I.D Disappeared said in regards to the accident in MA: "If this is the worse thing my daughter could do" Obviously he must have known about the West Point dismisal and probably about the CC. So obviously we know that he doesn't mind lying to us.

I am about the same age as Maura would be, were she alive. It is my opinion that it would be mortifying, at 21, to live in a dorm where other girls knew I had committed such a crime (and it is, despite the possibly-lenient consequences, a crime). Especially considering she would likely have to see the girl whose card she had used, or at a minimum, a friend of the girl.....the social effects would be horrible, and that's not even factoring in familial and/or employment ramifications. I do understand embarrassment is not a rational precursor to suicide, but I sure as hell would wanna get the outta Dodge until it blew over....and perhaps she did just that.

I am from Chicago, and know nothing of NH or MA, but from WTF/Bill's posts over the years, I do tend to subscribe to the theory that she ran into the woods to avoid yet another legal ramification, and succumbed to the elements there, perhaps in an intoxicated state. Knowing that she had this potentially pending fraud charge, which is a felony, hanging over her head....I can understand why she ran from a (perhaps) drunk driving arrest. My two cents and all that. Thank you to the longtime posters and to the new ones, esp. Tom, I enjoy your insights as of late.

"CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) checks are required by most clinical agencies and will be completed on all students and faculty once they are admitted to the program and yearly thereafter."
Was she at risk of being terminated from the nursing school?
I don't see how she could've stayed in nursing school. Our BCI's were checked every semester. "One needs to be of good moral character to assume the role of a professional nurse...."

I was thinking that earlier that I bet her family and friends were unaware. That would have been very embarrassing to anyone. I think she probably just held it inside. Why tell your family. She is an adult so there would have been no reason for the school or PD to call Mauras Family.

L4m, maybe you can ask Maura friend if she was aware of the CC theft.

I believe we can safely assume she did not intend to return to Amherst.

towards runaway or suicide. IMO

Maybe this is what she wanted to talk to Fred about the night she drove to his motel, and what Billy felt she had on her mind other than the Corolla crash.

Great point hannah and after the crash I bet Maura couldn't get to that conversation with Fred. Renner has done a good job filling in the gaps.
Still assuming and guessing but things are making more sense and some rumors are now facts. It is more than just the beautiful girl who's car broke down and is now missing. There is so much more that was happening in her life that brought her to that curve

here is what i wrote:

i said: the cc issue was well known to the PBB = Pointy Boots Brigade prior to JR's confirmation. did i say family?

but, anyway, her father (sisters, brother or close friends) surely had some insight into her leaving WP for whatever reasons, as well as some indicators about her physical and emotional health.

I also think we now know why she drove a malfunctioning car longdistance after having refused to drive it even around Amherst. The poster who suggested she put the rag in the tailpipe herself to make it look like the car had stalled and caused the crash, was right.

hannah, i disagree. i've never heard of placing a cloth in a tailpipe (stuffing it in, as common knowledge would have it here) "to make it look like the car had stalled and caused the crash...".
appearances wouldn't have meant very much to someone on the run, someone desperate, or someone drunk or careless. and the public doesn't know with any certainty what her circumstances were.

I gave that as one of my theories only after JWB told me that it would shoot out once the car was turned on. I also gave other theories about it as well.

It doesn't appear that maura was asked to leave school for the second semester because she emailed her professors that there was a death in the family and wouldn't be attending classes that week. I also don't think that maura would have been working security if she had been asked to leave school.

what is every ones take on this? Think maybe she was asked to move out of the dorms? Was it the corrola crash that put her over the edge knowing that might be the thing that causes her to violate her probation? Or was it the phone call from on campus from someone else threatening to turn maura in for another CC fraud?

According to regulations, she would not have been allowed to continue nursing school. The Undergrad Handbook says they did CORI clearances on students once a year, likely at the beginning of each school year (fall semester). She knew she would be kicked out, so she choose to leave. At least thatīs my take on it (at the moment, new info could well cause a change of mind).

now, which of us is supposed to have those answers? anyone?

the cc fraud info isn't new info...it's just been indisputably confirmed by JR.

i have a feeling this thread will go on endlessly into another decade of useless speculation and wonder. is there one person that agrees?

Something I wondered about from the comment section on Rennerīs blog (comments on post about cc theft). Some reader commented on the "suspicious" red truck sighting. And Renner replies: "Again with the red truck. I've found no evidence to support this".
Thoughts on this, anyone?
