Wow. If that is all you know. You really don't know much, do you?
I know more than that, but it doesn't matter. Still don't know where she is. I suspect strongly that it is far more likely she is in the woods, but that is still a very large area. I guess we will all need to wait to something comes up. So if that is all true, all this windmilling is for what? Entertainment? The illusion that people are "doing something?" Does anyone really consider this useful, or just fun and games?
Just curious. The seriousness that some people seem to take this makes me wonder if they really take themselves and their amateur sleuthing that seriously and consider themselves that useful.
Bill
Well Bill lets see, I think it might be entertainment at this point in time.
The other day I was sittng in a waiting room getting very bored until I turned by smarty phone on and checked out Topix.
Lo and behold aftermath was posting and I have to say I was totally entertained until my wait was up. I chuckled a few times and even shared my source of amusement with the guy sitting next to me. Didn't want him thinking I was laughing at nothing. He was also amused so without even knowing it aftermath put a smile on the faces of two people. I think I even posted from my smarty phone that I couldn't stop laughing. Neither could my new friend after I let him read more of the posts.

Just sitting in the stadium watching the game. Waiting for it to end. I hate stadium seats and for this price they should be recliners.

<quoted text>Citi--thanks for the info about the knife. did you see it before or after it was turned over to the police? That is where the problems comes with the knife---if it wasn't immediately turned over---tat is, it was shown to others before it was turned over, the potential evidence is considered contaminated and can't be used as evidence, even if it comes back as being positive.
FM was approached and given a small knife in plastic. He went to the Concord STP barracks, they would not accept it. FM explained he wanted to drop off potential evidence from a crime and asked whether there were any officers or any place else to take it. He was told there were no officers come back Monday through Friday. He had to return back to work in Ma. So he wrote a cover letter to send with it to the Concord STP. He did recieve notification of delivery and receipt from the post office.

Mostly I read blah, blah, blah, someone knows something and I don't remember the rest of the crap. It provided nothing in the way of anything new, or useful. Oh yeay, there was also an incantation to their deity of choice. I will also sacrifice another chicken to my god if you feel it will help. Baring that, I saw nothing new, useful or relevant in the writing, just some more mundane crap. If you got something useful out of it, good for you. My chicken awaits your command.
Bill
WTH I did not say the letter provided anything new or useful. Just trying to make a point. The letter in the North Country News shows the people from NH have hearts and compassion and are kind and caring people and really care as to where and what happened to Maura.

I hate to argue such a minor point, but....no. It cannot. I can cite you any legal reference you'd like, but I already posted one explaining precisely how a grand jury IS made up.
And I hate to argue semantics, but, you posted above 'a grand jury can consist of only one juror, a judge...' A judge is never a juror. Not even in a bench trial. Jurors are impartial citizens. Judges are officers of the court.
---
All this being said about the grand jury - obviously, there was an indictable offense that took place in regards to Maura's disappearance. That's why the grand jury was convened. My question is....was there a POI, but a lack of evidence? OR...was Maura the one facing an indictment? Fred, perhaps?(Just theorizing, not trying to ruffle feathers).
Had Maura disappeared of her own volition, it's feasible that there were some shady dealings going on that the D.A. attempted to bring to light - and bring her to court while he was at it.
There COULD be a POI who simply is getting away with murder due to lack of evidence, or maybe a DNA sample so miniscule they are waiting for the science to advance further (hence, the 75% chance of charges being brought). Although I think this is very unlikely.
Maybe someone assisted her in her flight, and there was potential charges looming over their head?
I have no idea, but I lean away from a POI/foul play scenario. Just my two cents.
Thanks, I appreciate your input. Just don't try telling me the Patriots are going to lose. Please don't do that. That would be cruel.

Well, we already knew that. The only one who didn't know that and did try to repeatedly say that those people were scum was shack. Several of us here tried to keep that in check. I wish I had thought to write a letter instead.

Nearly 27 years after Mary Badaracco vanished from her Sherman home, investigators have turned to a one-person grand jury in hopes of unraveling one of Fairfield County's most enduring mysteries, The News-Times has learned.

Joseph Badaracco, of Danbury, the son of the man state police said is their top suspect in Mary Badaracco's presumed 1984 murder, said Thursday he has been subpoenaed to testify before the grand juror, whom he said is sitting in New Britain.

On August 27th, the 6th Judicial Circuit Court, Oakland County, received a Complaint of Expedited Investigation by Judicial Officer (One Person Grand Jury) by complainant L. Brooks Patterson in regard to alleged violations of Michigan election laws.

Yesterday Chief Judge Nanci Grant announced that the Circuit Court, by affirmative majority decision of the bench, authorized issuance of an order to convene a one person grand jury for the purpose of conducting a judicial investigation as to the allegations contained in the complaint.

Furthermore, the judges of the Circuit Court, by unanimous vote,

designated Judge Edward Sosnick to act as grand juror.

Grant commented, "As dean of the bench, we have complete confidence in Judge Sosnick's ability to impartially and fairly fulfill this important role."

I somehow got the impression that occasionally a one-person grand jury is in fact impaneled or convened. And that sometimes the one person on the jury is a judge.

Not to be snippy, but I don't do this for a living.

The first post you made ALSO had this at the link you posted...

Grand juries composed of a single Superior Court judge were at one time relatively commonplace in Connecticut, especially in difficult cases or in investigations of suspected political corruption, but now are used much less frequently.

The second post you made is regarding violation of election laws. From that link:

Circuit Court, by affirmative majority decision of the bench, authorized issuance of an order to convene a one person grand jury for the purpose of conducting a judicial investigation as to the allegations contained in the complaint.

That's a judicial investigation, and it had to go through the Circuit Court. It's not a regular grand jury, nor a petit jury. It's a judicial investigation.

Regarding the Wisconsin link you cited - that's in John Doe cases...this isn't a John Doe case, and I cannot find any references to any recent Wisconsin one person grand juries whatsoever.

I would like to note that you haven't linked anything from the state of Mass.(I linked the current law in a previous post, about grand juries and their makeup).

Also - it states in the very link you provided that they are essentially used in political corruption cases - and now used much less frequently (and that's Connecticut).

I noticed you didn't refute my assertion that grand juries do, in fact, require a suspect in order to proceed - otherwise, who are they attempting to indict? You had stated earlier that they didn't need a POI.
Do you have any thoughts now, regarding the focus of the grand jury? A POI, or Maura, perhaps, herself? Just wondering what your thoughts are.
