I´ve always understood there was precious little time in between Maura leaving the party and getting into her father´s car.
As someone else here stated, she might not have had that much too drink that night for all we know.
There are many possible reasons why she crashed apart from possible alcohol consumption:
1. Being emotionally upset/distracted about something and therefore not concentrating enough on the driving and road conidtions.
2. Texting and driving (as you suggested)
3. Road conditions (icy intersection)

Crashing her father´s new car could well have precipitated some actions of Maura´s, acting as a kind of catalyst for something she might have been planning for some time.
Again, if Renner´s source(s) is/are correct, Maura once confided in her UMass track coach that "I wish I could just disappear"...
Perhaps she actually succeeded in doing so againt all the odds?
Perhaps some completely unforeseen events after her crash in NH changed everything?
We can only speculate with way too few hard facts available.

We haven't really had time to talk yet. I am going to assume like me you have actually met some fearless people. Both of the ones I met were in the army. There are probably no more dangerous people to be around than fearless ones. For themselves and anyone nearby.

I hope she wasn't really fearless. Fear is a good self preservation instinct to have. Fearless people are operating with a serious deficit.

So Emmett, I am going to assume that I am not the first person to tell you that only two things fall from the sky. Bird shit and fools. 8-)

LOL.. yes,at the RTB, my DI in the Ranger School used that expression with me.. & I honestly agree with you.. Fearless was a term used on my missions in Colombia, Kosovo, Bosnia, OP Anaconda, etc;
Honestly I feel that you have read many of my post, & I do act irrational sometimes, but I was trained by the best, wanted to be the best, & was one of the best at what I did.. I went so far to have my OPs paint tattoed on my face cus I got tired of the make-up..
It dont make me a bad person, but I was trained at a very high level, I have 3 purple hearts & a silver star.. Plus various "sharp-shooter" merits..

Something seems off here. I'm gonna look into MA DUI laws and local police stop procedures later, just out of curiosity. Unless someone has done this already and can point me toward it.

Your accident reports are different than ours. I'm not seeing the part where road condition descriptions and such might be listed. Maybe I need new glasses.:-)

I'm going to email Renner to ask if will consider interviewing this police officer, if he hasn't already done so.

I agree that Maura left the accident scene because she didn't want to face the possibility of a DUI -- particularly only a few days after she wrecked her dad's car (perhaps also while drinking, and possibly also involving a hit-and-run incident with a UMass student Petrit Vasi), and particularly when she had left school without notifying anyone of her real intentions, which might have simply been to "get away" for a few days and clear her head.(When I was in college, I went to Miami a couple times without telling anyone -- just wanted to be alone and not be questioned by anyone.)

But the theory that the committed suicide or succumbed to the elements simply doesn't hold weight. A helicopter search the day after she vanished showed no footprints in the woods (no fresh snow had fallen overnight), and numerous human and dog searches have failed to turn up a body. Remember, it was very dark and very cold when she vanished. Police dogs traced her scent up to 100 yards from her car, then they lost her scent.

And the theory that she started a new life of her own free will also doesn't hold weight. She had no car, no money, and was in the middle of rural New Hampshire. How is she going to start a new life and create a new identity in post-9/11 America? How is she going to get a job or a place to live?

The only plausible explanation, as far as I can see, is that she got into someone else's car (either willingly or unwillingly) and then something happened. Who knows -- but she was young and attractive and vulnerable, and abductions happen every single day.

Wow. Well you have my respect. They don't give out silver stars or purple heart for nothing. For those that don't know, you can't get a silver star except for gallantry in combat. It is the third highest award that one can receive. And obviously the purple hearts represent wounds from combat with the enemy.

Let me thank you for your service. I was a NCO in charge of a scout squad/platoon in an infantry battalion so we have run in similar circles. Had worked with many rangers and SF guys in my battalion. I learned a lot from them. Great times, good people of course all of the people I associated with were mostly Nam vets, some Korean and even one WWII (CIB with two stars). You guys are the new generation.

Again, thanks for what you did. I hope the VA is treating you right since you have been discharged.

your suggestion to interview the officer is excellent.

BTW, maybe I should switch to this forum (despite all the crazies on here)... Renner unfairly censors comments, and he's just using other peoples' insights to profit in his own forthcoming book anyway.

There is bad and good both places. You get used to just scrolling through the drama.:-)

I don't agree with some of Renner's methods, and have told him so directly, but I do think it's unfair to say he is only out for profit. He is spending a lot of time and energy at something he will not make much money at. He is also passing on information to LE. Anything that can help find Maura is a good thing, JMHO.

Amy, I agree. I can't scroll through all the drama though, sometimes it's entertaining.
