Only that one of the responders was bothered by this. Also, when C.Smith went to the Westman's door to inquire about the "missing girl" he mentioned the rag in the tailpipe to them.

Some one put the rag in the tail pipe whether it be Maura or some one else we dont know. findmaura-"The person put the rag in the tail pipe, the rag he had used on Maura, and could later say hey look at this in the tail pipe" no no no!! The rag in the tailpipe was 1st mentioned by Cecil Smith when He went to the Westman's house. It is still unclear who first noticed it there, whether it was Smith or could it have been Butch who told Smith or was it EMS who was (Only on scene 6 minutes) or FD who noticed it and told Smith. Why did officer smith say to The Westman's "did You see the girl that was driving the car, there is a rag in Her tailpipe".? From previous statements on this forum it has been mentioned that The Rag was stuffed way up inside. NO not a signal of sorts The Rag is a big question and makes no sense. John

LE has pushed the Suicide Card since the first night....rag in the tailpipe. 2cd. day BOL at Noon states "Upon officers arrival, found the car, no driver with a rag stuffed in the tailpipe" 3rd. day The Family arrives and are questioned intensely and have the suicide card played again before being brought to the accident scene. Why has LE so adamantly pushed suicide theory from the very beginning? 1st. night.. Is it because of the Young man up the power lines that night, right after Mauras accident. Just wrap it up to a night of crazy people going off the deep end and calling it quits, The end. WHO did notice the towel First??? John

What a load of crap. It was Fred who mentioned the Squaw walk. It was Maura's erratic behavior before and during the crash. Her fascination with the book, "Not without peril". Those were some of the facts that made people, including the police, think of suicide as a possibility. Unless someone can tell me that there were other rags in the exhaust of other missing women's cars, its a load of crap. Shows nothing, proves nothing, and had an effect on nothing. Bill

There is no proof to say she was intoxicated. SBD said she was shaken up.
