Again I look and ask myself why would someone jump into a wreck of a car to go on a road trip? Wouldn't you wait a week for your new car when the ride would be exciting in your new car? Something made her need to leave at present moment.
Deans List students don't just pack up when the semester first starts.
Looking back on this forum the cc was a rumor that turned out to be true.
Renner posted a cousin started the Vasi theory that she ran away. Maybe that rumor is stronger than what one thinks.
Didn't Fred say she would have a new car in three weeks? I know I could be wrong.....just seems to me I've read that again and again

I agree with you 100%!! The only thing I would like to know is, Has the car ever been proved to be a POS & running on 3 instead of maybe that was said to cover up a hit & run theory thats going around? At the time it happened back in 2004, was it well known the car was a POS, like it is now after the ID show?
Desenrascanco, you may not know but the car had to be towed back part way (100) miles worth to UMASS. If only I could access that old info. The Saturn was looked at in Oct, 2003. Was that when they towed it back? The testing was done in Hanson, ma I believe

Nope, I must have the three weeks confused witht that Maura wouldn't drive the car once back from winter break. But that would imply she had been back for 21 days, if her car was towed back, i can see her not wanting to drive it around town. But maybe, just maybe, when she and Fred brought the car back and she drove it, it may not have seemed so bad to her. Just guessing.

8 year anniversary video I found while trying to see that info about getting the car in a few weeks. I'm still going to keep looking though b/c as someone mentioned, Maura would need to be back by the weekend to get that car if Fred was indeed coming back. What's always wierd to me is that she packed Pajamas. Called for res o at 3:00 that day, and left.
This video shows one of her nursing books. It says
"health professionals, drug guide" on that book.

How come as a PI you can rule out UMASS as the start of the suspicious disappearance?
I think its weird that the family for years were able to successfully block information concerning her past. Now Renner has brought some of it to light.
All new information that has come out is concerning her past hasn't been character building information.
How come as a PI or an investigative father would UMASS not want to be searched? Why not look and see if she had possibly made any enemies in her past?
I think its so weird that the people that want to search for her and find her are really only doing it in a very limited space. Just my opinion.
I completely agree. As a strong woman, Maura didn't "break down" in NH, she did that back at UMASS. Something was bugging her. She was found a while later just "staring" into space as 2 students were let in without showing ID. What was so bad that she couldn't see straight? And why didn't Kathleen offer that she spoke to Maura that night? I think she knows more. And if it's guy stuff, highly personal, maybe it ought to stay that way. But if it in any way, size shape or form could help, i would hope she was forthright at some point.
I know I'll be flamed for this. I'm not picking on Katherleen at all. Just wondering why Maura was in such a hurry to get somewhere.

Thinking about how maura spent time with the coach during the spring of 2003. She said sometimes she'd wish she could just disapear. Enter Billy and Maura dropped the coach like a hot potato. By the fall and before school, Maura, Fred and Billy went hiking in that same area. Maybe going there meant something to her. I know, been said before. Sometimes i just see a sad young woman, really just ready to call it all quits.

Oh, and about ducks. It started out as a joke between the ppl in NH at the time, threatening to send attack ducks to the ones who drove them over the edge. Anyone who would dare ask about Maura's personal business, even an innocent, "where was the art job", and they'd laugh and send out the ducks.
To me the ducks are all the ones who rallied around the idea that Maura was killed and nothing else mattered. They were all seemingly on the same page. Even I tried to be a ponty boot brigade thingy person, nobody answered. I wear cowgirl boots all day long so thought this was funny. I never really did fit in, at least not that I know of. No pity party, just truth.

Maybe after she wrecked her dad's new Corolla, he changed his mind about getting her a new car right then and told her it would have to be put off for a while.

Don't feel bad, I don't fit in either. Maybe it's a good thing.:-)

I would like to clear up, there is no secret forum. At least not that anyone has invited me to. Some of us a week or so ago discussed going to another board, but we didn't go. I don't want anyone to feel left out of something that doesn't exist. You've been nice to me, and I wouldn't lie to you about it.

I also want to mention to everyone that I was able to track down my mystery caller, and the calls are not related to this case. My apologies to all if I contributed in any way to some greater drama here. Not my intentions. I sometimes don't think before I speak.

Back to what you all were talking about.

Perhaps you would like to give your opinion about the topic on hand? I feel that more information should be easier to gather pre disappearance rather than post disappearance which hasn't happened.

My main concern is why the quick escape to go missing? And Maura did in a sense wish to go missing, by the fact of lying to professors and telling no one where she was going. This action makes her want to go missing, maybe not to the extent of 8 years, but she did want to go missing so suddenly.

I agree with those who have said she was likely running from or to something or someone. I agree also with Jenkins and some others who stated that it was probably someone she knew who harmed her. This is one reason I asked multiple times if anyone investigated who was at the Goshen party.

My semi-educated guess would be that if someone she knew was involved, it is likely that LE would know this and is withholding the info from the public and even from family. That would be a strong POI, and there is little publicly known evidence. Clearly not enough to convict, or they would have done so.

This is from Fred, in his appeal to get records. I think this sentence is very interesting because it DOES imply someone Maura may have known, and/or had trouble with? Something, but here goes:

Take, for
example, her computer. If I could get it back, I might be able to discern who she
contacted
on that last afternoon and perhaps discover a new direction to follow.

I'll preface by saying this is total speculation: Regarding the "mystery call" of Thursday night that put Maura into such a state ... what if it was a call from Kathleen telling Maura that she (Kathleen) had informed the UMass police over some further credit card fraud behavior or other illegal activity that Kathleen knew Maura was involved in. As of that month -- February -- the previous credit card fraud charges were to be dropped so long as she had behaved herself. If Kathleen knew she had not behaved and had already told UMass police, or if she called Maura and said "if you don't turn yourself in, I will", then Maura likely would have been very very upset, felt stabbed in the back by her own sister ("My sister, my sister!"). Albeit, if something like this happened, Kathleen probably had only the best intentions toward Maura, to help her get straightened out, etc.

Follow on to why Maura felt a need to go see her dad at the motel at 3 AM ... maybe to talk the above over with him, express her upset at her sister doing or threatening something like this. Thinking again about it and upset all over again, could explain her lack of attention leading to the crashing of the Corolla.

And could also explain her abrupt departure from UMass ... her sister has "turned against" her, her dad is angry with her over the Corolla, etc.

I repeat, none of this is proven to be fact, it is complete speculation, but it could possibly be what was going on. It takes all the facts we do know into account.

In this letter Fred makes mention of the dog tracking her scent, and accepts it. In the ID show he says they used a new glove that he wasn't sure if she worn the glove as if in my opinion discredit the dog's finding.

Also he makes a big deal about them not calling the condo rental and speaking to the last person who spoke to Maura (via phone). Billy's mother received the phone bills, and I find it very difficult to think they weren't looking at Maura's phone bill to see if it was being used.

Something else that could make her need to leave for a week could be If she had another black eye, one that couldnt be covered up with makeup.
Seems to me like that might be something big enough that she could justify using the death in the family excuse.
IMO, her using this excuse shows a direct intention of returning to school. Anybody whose ever been to college knows that people miss classes all the time and it's not strange at all. Nobody would be looking for her because she left class. If she was planning on starting annew life there would b no need to concoct a lie, the one lie that will give u excused absences.

Im still bot convinced that call that brought her to tears came from her sister. Yes she talked to her sister that nite but it seems like that wa earlier in the nite, the other thing is back at the beginning UMass police clearly said that they were able to track the call to another on campus phone, that they know where the call came from but don't know who made it. That's pretty specific info. I find it odd that now it's pretty much stated it came from her sis, what happened to it being traced to an on campus phone?

& one thing that we can be sure of is the fact that that car was not running on only 3 cylinders, that's just ridiculous. There is no way in hell that car would have made it up to Nh, at least not in the time she got there. If it was only running on 3 cylinders.
My first car ended up running on only 3 cylinders for a short time before I got rid of it and it could barely make it up hills in Ct, I remember literally driving 15 mph up a couple hills on the Merritt parkway, that was as fast as it could go. & I was a good driver, if my gf back then was driving it she wouldn't have even been able to make it up the hill.
If a far is running on 3 it will not start up and idle like had been described NY Fred and Billy, they said the car started up kist fine at lavoies.
Which also begs the question, why didn't she try to drive the car away? From what I can tell the car was messed up but there was no damage that made that car undriveable after that accident, there's nothing hitting the tires or anything like that.

I feel like there's a very strong circumstantial case for someone travelling in tandem with her up to Nh. Thing that proves it in my mind: the fact that the only bottle of liquor she took with her when she left the car was the bottle of kahlua. So who had the vodka and the milk?
