Which makes it kind of crazy that a rag was flub in her tailpipe, a Rag can definitely be used to disable a car. If it's folded properly it can stay in the muffler and causes the engine torun way too rich because it isn't exhausting enough air, the csr will die fairly quickly, not gonna go more than a few miles.
Interestingly he was looking originally to the west of the store, almost as if he didn't expect the csr to make it that far. It was only after RO walked into the parking lot that the truck took off towards the crash site. Almost as if this person was fully expecting the car to die & to find her on foot somewhere. Did he speak to her at the gas station & hatch this sceem? I always felt the guy was in the first accident with her, she hit the corner of his bumper or his trailer hitch, whether acccidently or if he made her hit him. Maybe for whatever reason that wasn't a good spot to grab her so he stuck the rag in her tailpipe knowing her car would die.
Or Maybe he did that to not scare her, je wanted her to get in thr truck voluntarily so he let's her drive away and then her car dies and he comes along as the nce guy who just let her go after rear-ending him, here he is to save the day. I could see if he was nice to her after the first accident she wouldn't be afraid to catch a ride from him.
It Aopears that she didn't crash after the corner, her car died before the corner causing her to lose control and clip the snowbank on the other side of the road.
Somethin made her car die because she didn't even try driving it away, but it wasn't permanent because the car started right up when Billy and Fred started it and it was even said to be driveabkr. So what made her car die and how is it a coincidence that someone was out looking for someone walking on 112 right at that time? Her car dies mysteriously necaus it starred fine after, then there's Somebody looking for someone as if they were expecting the car to die, and there's a rag in her tailpipe. People talk about the rag coming from her own trunk as if it's a fact but it's hardly a fact just because Fred said so. Henlooked in the emergency kit? What else was missing? When did he see the tag that was in the tailpipe. It sounds like it was just a regular shop rag so that rag could've come from anywhere. It is not a fact it came from maura's trunk, Fred has said many things that have turned out to be total bs so i wouldn't consider anything he says as a fact at this point.

The craziest thing is that certain posters try to make it out like this was simply a truck driving through the area that was only noticed because it was red, never mind the fact that it's that dull, faded red color that is not bright. Certainly not a candy apple red corvette by any stretch of the imagination.
This truck wasn't only seen by RO. It was also witnessed by a resident on bhr with the driver not in the vehicle and the Passenger door open. This activity was so highly unusual that it inspired the person to tell LE that night. Le apparently was iterestsd intjjs report that night as almost every vehicle pulled over that night was a truck , 3 of them being red. Also they seemed to had concentratedtheir efforts in the rt 25/25C area rather than the 112/302 area. I wonder why? What isis they know that night that caused the to only search west and pull over vehicles on route 25? Seems like they at least had somethin pointing them in that direction.
This in stark contrast to what smith told the family when twy arrived. I think it's pretty obvious somebody up higher in the chain of command did not want this to officially be an abduction. They dont want that on their watch, they don't want that stat, & they dint want the public to lose confidence in them. These are small town coos where the budget is stretched really thin. If the public loses confidence it's not a big thing to lay off a couple cops because the state police have jurisdiction and are all over the place anyways.
It looks really bad if your officers were on the scene within 10 mins and you can't find the girl. Also once te night was over and they knew that they had no idea who the red truck was they knew they probably will never find the guy unless they get super lucky.
Bottom line is something made smith decide to lie to the family when they arrived and I suspect it was his superiors. I'm sure they said investigate as if it was murder, but let's say it's a runaway so we don't have to eat that stat.
Remember that with a small population like this 1 violent crime can lead to a spike in the crime rate.
For such a small area with so few people it seems like there are just a few too many unsolved murders and abductions up herr, it's scary. How many more unsolved murders is there gonna have to be before they do something about it. I know they finall out together a ok'd case squad, which is a great first step. But they need to devote some serious time and money into investigating some o these ok'd cases, out new people on it and go back and start from the beginning again.
This is one of those problems Nh would love to just have swept under the rug. Nh has a very safe perception NY the public and they aim to keep it that way

Look at her pupils, they're huge. You pupils don't dilate like that naturally, especially when she's in the hallway of a dorm where there's fluorescent lighting an it's bright, her pupils should theoretically be small.
I'm not saying I'm certain It was ritalin, but I am certain she took some sort of stimulant when that picture was taken. It's impossible to say what stimulant just from a picture but it most likely was Ritalin because that was the popular drug on campus then. Adderrall was rare in 04, nothing like it is today. I don't see Maura to be the kind of girl who'd be blowing lines of coke by herself in her dorm and it's pretty ridiculous to say that she was taking meth.

Ritalin was extremely common on campuses back then. For all we know she had a prescription for it, pretty much any college student can get a script for it if they try.

I can't say if she ever took any stimulants other than that night, for all I know it was the first time she ever took it.

But yes, she definitely was on something that night she got arrested, this much we know

I don't think we can tell from that picture but really, I am not sure why it matters unless there's something to say the drugs led to her disappearance or murder. If she was taking stimulants to study while working two jobs and clinicals, that would not really be that uncommon.

If she had a boyfriend in the drug scene or something like that, then that would be more interesting to me. Or if the red truck guy had been investigated and known to her as someone she did drugs with, then maybe.

But she obviously had a lot of stress and was acting emotionally for whatever reason, depressed about crashing her dads car, credit card fraud, etc. to explain her irrational behavior. With or without drugs, something was going on with her that she's looking up directions and calling for last minute condos.

Where will she stay for a week with $280?

This is a big coincidence if a random stranger takes the time to disable her car in advance and wait at a store to grab her on foot. Taking chances of being caught. What random abductor does this? With MA plates?
