If we are going by octomoms razor lol, then te simplest explanation to all of this is that she simply caight a ride, which would have been extremely easy for a youn girl to do at night in winter in Nh.

To say she ran east for miles and then was able to make it deep into those woods sure does complicate things.
That is not a simple answer at all.

As for the suicide, first of all why would she low to her teachers if she was planning suicide? Make no sense, this oat high school, nobody comes looking for you even if you miss a month of classes, teachers don't care If u moss class.
The only reason to say there was a death in the family was to get excised abscenses. In a tough major like hers a death in the family or a major injury/sickness is the only things that will give you excised absenses. That email makes no sense if she was planning on killing herself.

Also not one of her family or friends ever said that she expressed suicidal thoughts.

She had expressed a desire to start a new life, but never suicide.

Simple physic lesson. Only two things matter in a collision. Weight (mass) and speed. Box filled with wine (heavy) flies around makes big mess. Tissues, box or individual ones (light) not so much. Sunglass case, thrown around in crash, tow truck driver sits or steps on it, throws it in console.

My other buddy Newton has a law. An object in motion tends to stay in motion until acted on by an outside force. In Maura's case, trees at the end of a skid. Car goes from 20 or so MPH to zero pretty quickly. Objects in car still going 20 until something (usually hitting other things inside the car) else stops them. Newton is really one of my top three people. That isn't his only law, but it's late and I don't want to overload the audience.

And again, we need to fulfill the evidence. What was her state of mind? She was impaired from alcohol, fleeing school, not telling anyone about it. Is this a rational mind? Could she have made irrational decisions. If the credit card charges, for possibly a second time, is true. What was she thinking when she crashed her car, yet again, with alcohol on board. Was it just an aw shucks moment? Or was it the end of the world for her? If it was and end of the world moment how would she react? Running? On foot, into a strangers car, or into the woods, just making certain that the cops didn't catch her, whatever that took?

All fascinating questions, I think.

Also, this doesn't violate any of Occam rule. It is the quest for the simplest explanation that explains what we know. What you still don't see is that there are to many unknowns to solve the equation. At least with the facts we have. But it does lend itself to a fascinating collection of stories.

Keep searching grasshopper.

Bill, I don't believe it was ever confirmed she hit the trees, since it appears her vehicle ended up away from trees. Maybe you could explain this better.

Bill, I believe it is a correct fact, wine was found in the car. It is not a fact she was drinking. Yes, fascinating questions include finding the simplest explanation to this accident on WB corner. I seriously doubt she was drinking.

It was all in Officer CS's excellent report. Complete with a diagram.

If you need me to find a url for the report, I can probably do that.

Anne, even Maura's father admitted it was very likely that she was drinking. I mean, its hard for you to believe a college kid could have been drinking and driving with a container in the car? And I have never been to an accident scene with a missing driver who wasn't drinking.

<quoted text>Hi Jenkins,
The cottage witness stayed late that night and didn't leave work until just after 7:00. She says she saw CS circling around as she drove, my expression only...he seemed to be having trouble finding the location as there are too many swiftwater this, swiftwater that and he was new to the area. It is on the outskirts I believe.
Anyway, the cottage witness would have to had seen this nose to nose thing somewhere else for it to even be possible, IMHO. Because of the W-Mans witnessing that has never changed. They called police, got through first and did not mention any police being around before CS. Only that they heard this and that, looked out to see what appeared to be....and stayed on the phone until police DID get there.
Just my take from all I've read.
And if there was a female sliding off a road anywhere along the way, maybe that's the place where the cottage witness saw the cars nose to nose with no one around, and it was then that a different officer responded?.
Either that or as I now realize, what the cottage witness was seeing was CS vehicle nose to nose with the Saturn, no one around due to him leaving his vehicle and walking to the two callers homes (to find out what they saw and what they knew that might be helpful to explain the wreck).
The cottage witness never stated any officers name to my knowledge. Only stated what thay had witnessed what they had seen the police vehicle doing that night. The cottage witness saw an SUV with the number 001 on it nose to nose with the saturn on 112.CS was in the H2 vehicle according to the GSCD logs.

Bill I have not seen this statement by Maura's father, have you? If so, it still is a mistake to state she had been drinking without proof and none is available, correct? I know you know the area of the WB curve and it would not be necessary to have alcohol in system to drive off that curve in wintertime. I'm sure you agree.

Here's what gets me about the wine box being crushed? How could a small box of wine get crushed in the backseat of a crash? I'll post the paragraph I copied at the end of my post. But it got me thinking. Maybe someone DID move the carseat way back, and that's how the box got crushed? Then I suppose it was lifted to where it was noted, the backseat?
Here's what I copied.........
At 7:46 pm, an officer from Haverhill Police arrived on the scene. The girl who was seen by the second caller and the bus driver was not present. The car was facing westbound in the eastbound lane, locked and with a cracked windshield and two deployed airbags. A damaged box of Franzia wine was found on the rear passenger seat.
The first caller called in at 7:27. The second call put in was by SBD but because circuits were busy he spoke with Hanover dispatch. It was Hanover dispatch that then made a call at 1943. CS arrived at 19:46:20.

Just because she didn't express suicidal thoughts doesn't mean that she didn't have them. When life is caving in around someone from every direction, they often withdraw. I certainly hope that Maura didn't commit suicide, but it's a possibility. If that were the case, one would think that her body would have been found by now... But if she hitched a ride to a different intended destination (maybe somewhere way up in the mountains), her remains could be anywhere. Again, I'm not saying that's what happened, but it's possible.

I am fairly certain I remember him saying this pretty early on. Couldn't find it for you but I doubt I am the only one of the old timers that remembers that. It was during his time when he started getting all pissed off at the police.

It isn't a mistake to accept that at all. It explains much of her action, before, during and after the accident. It also explains if there was an accident just before the corner accident.

Depending on body weight, metabolism, etc. The typical rate is considered to be one oz of alcohol an hour. Obviously that varies somewhat from person to person.

Don't know where this happened but if it is in the general area between where Maura's car was found and North Woodstock, there was not very much in the way of Radio or cell phone service. If you have an exact location I might be able to be more specific. None of 112, if that is what you are asking is closed that I am aware of. Hikers, hunters, campers cross country skiers are the people most likely to visit and be in that area. Again, if you be more specific as to where you are referring, I might be able to be more specific.

Re the driver seat being moved back into a position farther than Maura would have used to drive the Saturn, my guess is that she moved it back so she had more "maneuver room" to get out the door of the car, since apparently she was so close to the snowbank on the driver side that the door pushed into the bank when she opened it. Sharon Rausch mentioned that there was a dent in the snowbank where the driver side door had been opened.
Maybe she was trying to get away from the SpyPig infection that was messing up her computer and she drove up north so she could permanently get away from those who were trying to drive her crazy, like a certain Massachusetts PI who delights in harassing people to death. Maybe she was pushed into suicide by a PI and his groupies.
