Lighthouse 101 wrote: <quoted text> And if "Grapes of Wrath" is consider an America classic, then James can write a book about a girl who runs off and dies in the woods. The ending to "Grapes of Wrath" was so awful I had to check my copy thinking that part of the book might have been cut off or left out. Such a long book with no real ending. It's been a while, but that didn't have a happy ending? 8-) Bill

I guess my assumption was the book was to be of the "investigative journalism" type. As in he would investigate the disappearance and come to some conclusion at the end. A book about a mystery with no answers and no theories backed up by some evidece is well, dumb.

The mysterious phone call..which, according to Healy on BlogRadio, was never really understood. Fred happens to appear to get a new car that exact weekend. Strange. She keeps his car to go to a dorm party. Why? The party was at her dorm. She did not need a vehicle. He should have dropped her off. It looks to me that they had to get back to each other. Then she wrecks his new car. He claims he slept through her coming back to the hotel, using his cell, and not to mention the lights and noise from the tow truck has it dropped his car off. It doesn't add up. Maura was on the run from something. Fred knows. If I recall rightly, at some point in the past the explanation was given that Maura dropped Fred off at the motel and took the car with the plan to come back herself to the motel later (after the dorm party) and stay at the motel so they could get an early start the next day to go look at more cars. I think this came from someone in the family, might have been Citigirl but I am not sure.

First, why Maura went on the crying jag that she did shortly before leaving. Second, why did she lie about a "death in the family". Third, what was the definitive source of the call to Billy's cell phone. Fourth, did she really plan on coming back. Fifth, what was the reason that she left West Point. Was it as described by family, or not. Hardly anyone leaves WP of their own volition once they are accepted. There may be some others I can't think of right now, but those would be good for a start. I still believe that it is most likely that she died either accidentally or on purpose in the woods. I don't see myself buying the book, unless someone tells me it answers at least some of those questions. Someone other than Renner that is. 8-) In the end I suspect he likely will have a remarkably dull story with no ending, unless he speculates wildly about Bigfoot, serial killers and UFOs as has been done here for so many years. That is the only reason I have stuck around as long as I have. Listening to these wildly speculative an often irrational stories by some here, because the known facts are remarkably boring. Bill He's provided me enough entertainment and info that I don't mind spending a few bucks to buy it. So I'll lend you my copy marked up with margin notes on ideas we can use for the murder mystery tour.

What exactly did he do to make you think he has a pair? I mean is he fighting in a steel cage death match to get this information? Or does he write a letter and wait for stuff to come in the mail? I am trying to figure out if you are a relative or something. Please. Tell us all why you think he is so courageous. I mean is there some type of secret death squad whose purpose is to keep people from trying to determine what happened to a young girl who ran from her crashed car while drinking? Is it a government coverup on such a level that if you find out what happened, you must be killed? Can you please tell us all why he is apparently your hero. Bill

He knows something. And WHY is the art gallery where MM worked still such a mystery? Employer/s would be in IRS records, which I believe also can be requested under FOIA. I agree, the secretive art gallery job is strange. As for the 4G's Ive often thought Maura needed it for something besides a car..I wonder if Fred returned it to his bank account.

You are so far up Renners ass I can't tell where he starts and you end, it's NOT a pretty sight. Get over yourself douchebag, he is a writer not a real cop. He sits at his laptop and writes crap, sends emails, FOI requests, makes some phone calls and whatnot. He isn't walking a beat, kicking doors in on drug busts or making felony stops alone on I 93 in the Notch at 3AM. Go sit yourself down boy.

Just because someone might not write books for a living doesn't mean they don't have professional knowledge to contribute. Bill has volunteered his professional knowledge on search and rescue, and related matters that most of us don't have any first hand knowledge of. He has taken a lot of time to answer questions I've had and other members as well. Some of us appreciate his contributions. Bill would actually be a good person for James to interview, if he wants a balanced perspective for his book.

Bill has always shared his expertise with us, that most would have no knowledge of unless they were trained in such things as he has been. I think he's been an asset to the forum and has worked very very hard to keep the truth and the BS separated.

I am amazed people are still talking about this and have an interest in this case. This is one of the cases that will not go away any time soon. Everything about it is baffling. The cloth in the tailpipe, all the alcohol for just her, and the fact she just disappeared in about 5 minutes. I think she was abducted but no one even has an idea who did it or how.

The next time you have a chance, watch a jogger who passes by yours house. See how long it takes them to get out of view. It is usually seconds. Now, imagine if they were actually motivated to not be seen, because, say, you were legally drunk. It takes seconds to disappear, and at night in a sparsely populated area, where you can hear cars coming and see their headlights for a considerable distance, it is amazingly easy for a motivated person to evade detection. And no, I don't personally believe that she was abducted and there is no evidence that happened. The only real reason I stick around is for the entertainment. Over the years there has been some high quality chuckles and some downright hysterical "facts" generated from this online "investigation". Has kept me laughing my a** off many times. Bill

Bill I have read a lot about this but maybe I missed something. You stated that you believe she is off in the woods somewhere. What in your opinion is the evidence that happened? Or is it more of a gut feeling?

Bill I've never believed that someone abducted her and this is my reason for believing this. The road that Maura crashed on has much more traffic in the summer than the winter months. Many women walk, ride bikes and jog this same road and same area everyday from all over the US in the summer. Many bike all the way over Lost River Mt and into Lincoln with not many houses along the route. They don't disappear. No "dirtbag" pulls them off their bike and abducts them. They make it safely to their destination. It is impossible for me to believe that in such a short time span in the middle of the winter when the road is much less traveled that Maura met up with a bad guy that abducted or murdered her. It just makes no sense.
